'''Lylla''' is a fictional character appearing in comic books published by Marvel Comics.

She is an anthropomorphic [[otter]] who is the C.E.O. of the biggest toy making company in the universe, Mayhem Mekaniks on the planet Halfworld. She is also the friend and lover of [[Rocket Raccoon]]. She inherited the company after her parents were murdered by Judson Jakes who wanted control of the company. The only way for Lylla to gain full control was through marriage. Lylla soon came under threat not just through Jakes, but also through Lord Dyvyne as they both wanted to control her toy company. Luckily, Rocket Raccoon came to her aid and with the help of their friends, [[Wal Rus]] and Uncle Pyko, defeated both parties. Lylla traveled with Rocket afterwards to start a new life together. These events were later revealed to be false. Lylla, along with the rest of the Halfworlders, were actually service animals who cared for mental patients on their planet. She was also apparently married to [[Blackjack O'Hare]]. She has not been seen since, and her marriage to Blackjack seemed retconned as he reappeared as a deadly mercenary and enemy to Rocket.
A '''werewolf''', also known as a '''lycanthrope''' in folklore and mythology, is a [[human|person]] who [[Shapeshifting|changes]] into a [[Wolf (species)|wolf]], caused by purposefully using magic, by being placed under a curse or affliction (often a bite or the occasional scratch from another werewolf) with the transformations occurring on the night of a full moon.

The medieval chronicler [[Gervase of Tilbury]] associated the transformation with the appearance of the full moon, but this concept was rarely associated with the werewolf until the idea was picked up by modern fiction [[writer]]s. Most modern references agree that a werewolf can be killed if shot by a [[W:Silver bullet|silver bullet]], although this is more a reflection of fiction's influence than an authentic feature of the folk legends. A more realistic approach that seems to be closer to the truth, and has been incorporated into more recent works of fiction and movies, is that, for all the supernatural aspects of these creatures, they are still beings of flesh and blood, so they can be killed with any weapon that does enough damage. In many forms of fiction and media, werewolves can either be portrayed with or without [[tail]]s.

==Further inner belief==

Some people call themselves [[were]]s or [[therianthropy|therian]]s and believe they can physically or spiritually shift into a (were)wolf or other (were)[[animal]]s (though some cases can be classified as [[W:Clinical lycanthropy|clinical lycanthropy]]), although the therians strongly disagree with the physical side of this and seek to disprove any physical aspect of shifting, making it a purely spiritual phenomenon. This, however, is not a subculture within the [[furry fandom]], but rather a separate phenomenon unto itself. Werewolves are also popular amongst [[transformation]] fans.

==Lycanthropy==

The ability of a [[human]] to undergo transformation into a wolf or werewolf is classically known as [[lycanthropy]] (deriving from the Greek words ''lykoi'' for wolf and ''anthropos'' for man). In common usage, it can refer to the transformation of a human into any animal form; though a more specific term for this is [[therianthropy]]. [[W:Remus Lupin|Remus Lupin]], from the [[W:Harry Potter|Harry Potter]] books, suffers from lycanthropy.

The term takes its name from an [[W:Arcadia (region)|Arcadian king]] named [[W:Lycaon (Greek myth)|Lycaon]] in [[Greek mythology]] who, with his fifty impious sons, made an inappropriate sacrifice of human flesh to the god [[W:Zeus|Zeus]]. The god, displeased with the sacrifice, either killed them all immediately with a lightning bolt or, more popularly in myth, turned the king and his sons into wolves.

In psychology, lycanthropy (referred to as [[W:clinical lycanthropy|clinical lycanthropy]]) is a mental illness diagnosis where the patient believes that he or she is a wild animal.

==Werewolves in fiction==

Werewolves have been portrayed in many works of fiction in the media of literature, [[comic]]s, drama, and film.

Werewolf literature includes folklore, legend, saga, fairy tales, gothic and horror fiction, [[fantasy|fantasy fiction]], and poetry. Such stories may be supernatural, symbolic, or allegorical. The archetypal portrayal of a werewolf in popular consciousness is probably that in the horror film [[W:The Wolf Man (1941 film)|The Wolf Man]] (1941) in which [[W:Lon Chaney, Jr.|Lon Chaney, Jr.]] transforms into a werewolf at the full moon, and in later films teams up with [[Frankenstein]] and [[Dracula]], as one of the three famous horror icons of the modern day.

However, werewolf fiction is an exceptionally diverse genre with ancient folkloric roots and manifold modern re-interpretations. Werewolves have also been featured in [[comic book]]s with three of them being [[W:Spider-Man|Spider-Man]]'s [[W:John Jameson (character)|John Jameson]], son of [[W:J. Jonah Jameson|J. Jonah Jameson]], who has a werewolf form called the '''Man-Wolf''' from a gemstone called the '''Godstone''', [[W:Wolfsbane (character)|Wolfsbane]], who is part of the [[W:X-Men|X-Men]], and ''[[W:Werewolf by Night|Werewolf by Night]]'' in the [[Marvel]] [[comic book]]s.

==History==

In some stories (derived from folk tales and medieval theology), the werewolf was [[Demon (mythology)|demonic]], part of [[W:Satan|Satan]]'s army of darkness, inimical to the human race and having a craving for human flesh. This appears as a theme of the Gothic horror story ''[[The White Wolf of the Hartz Mountains]]'' (1839) by [[W:Frederick Marryat|Frederick Marryat]] which features a monstrous spirit-being that transforms from wolf to [[woman]].

The legendary Viking warriors [[Berserker]] and [[Ulfhednar]] were considered to be [[shapeshifter]]s, changing into [[bear]]s and wolves in combat. They were closely associated with the worship of the pagan gods and were outlawed when Scandinavia converted to Christianity. After that, anyone claiming or showing such behavior was deemed to be an outlaw. Outside the protection of the law and hunted down and killed. Modern historians deny that any such phenomenon ever actually existed. They tend to suggest that the behavior was the result of drug use and pagan ceremonies, though experiments have produced no drugs available in Scandinavia which would account for it.

In medieval romances, such as ''[[W:Bisclavret|Bisclavret]]'' and ''[[W:Guillaume de Palerme|Guillaume de Palerme]]'', the werewolf takes on more innocent traits, appearing as the victim of evil magic and aiding [[W:Knight-errant|knights-errant]].

In fairy tales, such as ''[[W:Little Red Riding Hood|Little Red Riding Hood]]'', the figure of the werewolf is more ambiguous and subject to an allegorical or [[W:Sigmund Freud|Freudian]] interpretation. These tales are the inspiration behind modern fiction such as ''[[W:The Bloody Chamber#The Company of Wolves|The Company of Wolves]]'' by [[W:Angela Carter|Angela Carter]] and the film [[W:Ginger Snaps (film)|Ginger Snaps]] which deal with [[female]] [[sex]]uality.

In other stories beginning with ''[[Wagner the Wehr-Wolf]]'' (1847) by [[W:George W. M. Reynolds|George W. M. Reynolds]], the classic theme of a man cursed to be transformed into a werewolf at the time of the full moon is reintroduced: representing the split personality and evil, bloodthirsty, dark side of humanity itself. This theme of lycanthropy as a disease or curse reached its standard treatment in the film 1941 ''The Wolf Man'' movie, which contained the now-famous rhyme:
{{Q|Even a man who is pure in heart
And says his prayers each night:
May become a wolf when the wolf-bane blooms:
And the autumn moon is full and bright.}}

This movie is often credited with originating several aspects of the legend which differ from traditional folklore such as the vulnerability of the werewolf to a silver bullet
.
The process of [[Shapeshifting|transmogrification]] is portrayed in such films and works of literature to be painful. The resulting wolf is typically cunning but merciless and prone to killing and eating people without compunction regardless of the moral character of the person when human. The first feature film to use an [[anthropomorphic]] werewolf was ''[[Werewolf of London]]'' (1935) (not to be confused with the 1981 film of a similar title) establishing the canon that the werewolf always kills what he loves most. The main werewolf of this film was a dapper London scientist who retained some of his style and most of his human features after his transformation.

A very popular modern subgenre consists of stories that treat werewolves as a separate race or [[species]] (either [[science fiction]]al or magical) or as persons using magic in order to deliberately transform into wolves at will. Such current-day werewolf fiction almost exclusively involves variations of lycanthropy as being either a hereditary condition or being transmitted like a disease caused by the bite or scratch of another werewolf.

The form that a werewolf takes is not always an ordinary wolf, but is often anthropomorphic or may be otherwise larger and more powerful than an ordinary wolf. Sometimes the beast form of the werewolf will have some physical characteristics borrowed from an animal species other than the wolf, as can be seen in the [[boar]]-like werewolf of ''[[W:Wild Country (film)|Wild Country]]'' and the [[cat]]-like werewolves of ''[[W:Underworld (film series)|Underworld]]''. While some werewolves are portrayed with tails, there are also others that don't have them. Many modern werewolves are also supposedly immune to damage caused by ordinary weapons, being vulnerable only to silver objects (usually a bullet or blade). This negative reaction to silver is sometimes so strong that the mere touch of the metal on a werewolf's skin will cause burns.

More recently, the portrayals of werewolves has taken a more sympathetic turn in some circles. With the rise of environmentalism and other back-to-nature ideals, the werewolf has come to be seen as a representation of humanity allied more closely with nature. A prime example of this outlook can be seen in the [[role-playing game]] ''[[Werewolf: The Apocalypse]]'', in which players [[roleplay]] various werewolf characters who work on behalf of [[W:Gaia (mythology)|Gaia]] against the destructive supernatural spirit named [[Wyrm]], who represents the forces of destructive industrialization and pollution. Author [[W:Whitley Strieber|Whitley Strieber]] previously explored these themes in his novels ''[[The Wild (novel)|The Wild]]'' (in which the werewolf is portrayed as a medium through which to bring human intelligence and spirit back into nature) and ''[[W:The Wolfen|The Wolfen]]'' (in which werewolves are shown to act as predators of humanity, acting as a "natural" control on their population now that it has been removed from the traditional limits of nature). The heroic werewolf has also returned via the [[W:paranormal romance|paranormal romance]] genre, where wolf-like characteristics such as loyalty are shown as positive traits in a prospective [[mate]].

Despite the recent upsurge in the motif of heroic werewolves, unsympathetic portrayals of werewolves as monsters also continue to be common in popular culture. This is especially true in movies, which are only slowly incorporating trends in written fiction. There are very few werewolf movies outside the horror genre.
[[Image:Minotaurdeath.jpg|right|thumb|160px|Theseus slays the Minotaur]]
[[File:Minoanbull.jpg|right|thumb|160px|The Minoan Bull Head, a famous religious artifact. Photo by [[Ken Redtail]]]]
In [[Greek mythology]], the '''Minotaur''' was a creature that was half [[human|man]] and half [[bull]]. It dwelt in the Labyrinth, an elaborate maze constructed by [[W:King Minos|King Minos]] of [[W:Crete|Crete]] and designed by the architect [[W:Daedalus|Daedalus]] to hold the Minotaur. The Minotaur was eventually killed by [[W:Theseus|Theseus]]. It is one of the earliest examples of an [[anthropomorphic]] [[character]] in history.

==The Legend of the Minotaur==

Before Minos of Knossos became king of Crete he asked the Greek god [[W:Poseidon|Poseidon]] for a sign to assure him that he, and not his brother, was to receive the throne. Poseidon agreed to send a white bull on condition Minos would sacrifice the bull back to the god. Indeed, a bull of unmatched beauty came out of the sea. King Minos, after seeing it, found it so beautiful that he instead sacrificed another bull, hoping that Poseidon would not notice.

Poseidon was very angry when he realized what had been done, so he caused Minos's wife, [[W:Pasiphae|Pasiphae]], to be overcome with a fit of madness in which she fell in love with the bull. Pasiphae went to Daedalus for assistance, and Daedalus devised a way for her to [[bestiality|satisfy her passions]]. He constructed a hollow wooden [[cow]] covered with cowhide for Pasiphae to hide in and allow the bull to mount her. The result of this union was the Minotaur. In some accounts, the white bull went on to become the [[W:Cretan Bull|Cretan Bull]] captured by [[W:Hercules|Hercules]] for one of his [[W:Labours of Hercules| labors]].

The Minotaur had the body of a man and the head and tail of a bull. It was a fierce creature, and Minos, after getting advice from the [[Oracle at Delphi]], had Daedalus construct a gigantic labyrinth to hold the Minotaur. It was located under Minos' palace in [[Knossos]].

Minos had just won a great victory over the Athenians, so he demanded that seven Athenian youths and seven maidens be sent every ninth year to be devoured by the Minotaur. When the third sacrifice came around, the Greek hero Theseus volunteered to go to slay the monster. [[W:Ariadne|Ariadne]], Minos' daughter, fell in love with Theseus and helped him get out of the maze by giving him a ball of thread, allowing him to retrace his path. Theseus killed the Minotaur (with a magical sword Ariadne had given him) and led the other Athenians back out of the labyrinth.

Minos, angry that Theseus could escape, imprisoned Daedalus and his son [[W:Icarus|Icarus]] in the labyrinth. They were able to escape by building wings for themselves, but Icarus famously died during the escape.

Sometimes the Minotaur is represented as a bull with a human torso instead of a head, like a bull version of the [[Centaur]].

== Minotaurs in mainstream culture/religion ==

* In ''[[Dungeons & Dragons]]'' minotaurs worship the [[demon]] lord [[Baphomet]], and whilst they mainly function as mere monsters, in the ''Dragonlance'' campaign setting, they are a reasonably civilized and cultured race.
* The card game [[W:Magic: the Gathering|Magic: the Gathering]] features minotaurs as being both savage (the '''Hurloon '''minotaurs) and tribal yet somewhat cultured (the '''Talruum''').
* The MMORPG game [[World of Warcraft]], features the [[Tauren]], a race of Minotaurs.
* In the online game [[W:Shadowbane|Shadowbane]], players are able to assume the role of a minotaur, and minotaurs in general form a key role in the backstory and lore and are depicted as a full range, from the savage to the civilized.
* In the online game ''Dark Age of Camelot'', the minotaur was introduced as a playable race as well as a monster in an expansion.
* In the ''Warhammer'' setting, minotaurs are a breed of beastmen chosen by the ''Chaos Gods'' to guard their temples. Minotaur champions, known as '''Doom Bulls'''' also lead armies of beastmen, mortals, and daemons.
* A SciFi Channel original movie depicted the minotaur as a large undead bull monster, a departure from the usual image of the minotaur.
* '''Ox''', the on-stage persona of one of the members of the Finnish band [[Lordi]], is described as being an undead 'man-bull', a reference to the mythical minotaur.
* [[Thomas Burnett Swann]]'s ''Minotaur Trilogy'' of fantasy novels features Silver Bells and Eunostos, the last two of their race; possessing more humanoid heads and faces than classical depictions of minotaurs, they are more like bovine versions of satyrs.

== Minotaur and furry ==

The concept though of a half-man, half-bull, is one of the earliest examples of [[anthropomorphic]] characters, but minotaurs as a whole are quite uncommon in the [[furry fandom]].

In furry visual novels, minotaur and bovine characters have appeared in a few instances:

* In [[Minotaur Hotel]] the story revolves around Asterion, the minotaur from the Greek legend, in current-day Earth.
* [[Killigan's Treasure]] features a bovine race called '''bovos'''. The protagonist, Killigan, belongs to this race.

[[File:Avatar.jpg.320x320px.jpg|thumbnail|right]]
'''Mis0''' is a [[furry]] who lives in Texas.
Mis0 has been in the furry community since the mid-1990s.
Their [[fursona]] is a [[shapeshifting]] ''skunkupine'' ([[skunk (species)|skunk]]-[[porcupine]] [[hybrid]]), the skunkupine, with a cobalt central stripe, being its normal form most of the time. It's also been seen as a penguin, a grey, lop-eared bunny with black spots (one over its left eye), and other forms.
It has been a professional dance instructor since 1992. It also teaches yoga and other adult education subjects.

== Texas Furry Fiesta==
Mis0 was on staff of Furry Fiesta as the Music and Motion Lead - teaching panels on yoga, dance and other physical/musical panels.
It also hosted the formal (or sometimes informal) ball at TFF every year and has been teaching panels at [[Furry Fiesta]] since it first began.

It'd been, quite literally, bribed to join as the only non-male panelist on the TFF "Match Game", where the more vulgar staff members come up with the most impossible and hilarious fill-in-the-blanks to foil the contestants.
It's also been bribed to serve as one of the judges as well as "Entertain the Staff for Small Prizes".

=== Music & Motion ===
The Music & Motion department originated from yoga and meditation panels (2009-2011) into ballroom and other social dance classes and more formalized/mature dance events (20011-20017), appealing to attendees who desire a more structured and varied dance environment, as well as those who want to learn new moves and styles apart from typical "wubwub rooms". It has also, playfully been referred to as "Grey Muzzle Activities" as most of the panels and events it hosts are "adults only", less for content than interest and physical safety.

In the early development of its moniker, Orim Katsu (the department's DJ and very first Minion) suggested the "Music and Motion" or "M&M" department and took on the term "Minion" as the departmental staff term, thus making everyone in the department "MMM's". Being that the M&M department is heavily involved in dedicating their panels/events to the themes of the con, both Mis0 and the Minions frequently adopt various character names to match every year's theme, making the entire department somewhat "shapeshifting" itself.

[[File:PokGrind.jpg|right|thumb|300px|Pork Grind (symbiote, Earth-8311) with Spider-Ham and [[Mary Jane Waterbuffalo]]. Art by [[W:Jay Fosgitt|Jay Fosgitt]].]]
A '''symbiote''' may refer to either any real-life organism (also known as a '''symbiont''') involved in [[W:Symbiosis|symbiosis]], i.e. the long-term [[W:biological interaction|biological interaction]] between two different [[W:Organism|biological organisms]], or a (fictional) [[alien]] sentient being that bonds with other living organisms, usually in order to survive (also via a [[W:Symbiotic relationship|symbiotic relationship]]) with its host.

This bond can be [[W:Competition (biology)|competitive]], [[W:Mutualism (biology)|mutualistic]], [[W:commensalism|commensalistic]], or [[W:parasitism|parasitic]] in nature.

== Etymology (Marvel) ==

The concept of the alien symbiote was first brought up by [[W:Marvel Comics|Marvel Comics]], particularly regarding the [[W:Villain|villainous]] [[character]] [[W:Venom (comics)|Venom]], often synonymized with the term "'''living costume'''" due to the way that such beings envelop their hosts.

The Marvel universe technical term for this symbiote is a '''Klyntar'''. Klyntar is also the official homeworld of the symbiote.<ref>[https://marvel.fandom.com/wiki/Symbiotes Symbiotes] article on the [https://marvel.fandom.com/ Marvel <nowiki>[</nowiki>Database<nowiki>]</nowiki>] website. Retrieved February 28, 2022. </ref>

In [[Spider-Ham]]'s ([[W:Spider-Man|Spider-Man]]'s [[anthropomorphic]] [[funny animal]] [[pig]] counterpart) universe, '''Venom''' is identified as [[Pork Grind]] instead, following the "pig" related theme, as a tongue-in-cheek take on [[W:Pork rind|pork rind]], a culinary term for the skin of a pig, whereas it is rendered, deep-fried in fat, baked, roasted, and dehydrated until puffy and crisp, to produce a kind of [[W:cracklings|pork cracklings]] (USA), or scratchings, which are then served in small pieces as a snack or side dish.

== Symbiotes and furry ==

[[Anthropomorphic]] symbiotes enjoy a fair degree of popularity in the [[furry fandom]], particularly in the [[rubberfur]] and [[transformation]] subfandoms, both in [[art]] and [[literature]].

Symbiotic transformations which result in a stark alteration of the physical structure of the [[furry]] may usually be depicted in several ways, such as originating from either some sort of amorphous, shapeless goo, like [[living rubber]], from a costume that is seemingly meant for more casual fitting (i.e., a [[fursuit]], which is actually a symbiote hiding in plain sight, akin to Marvel's Venom supervillain costume form), within the host itself (under the skin or [[fur]]).

[[File:Rubberfur_small.png|right|Rubber Fur]]'''Rubberfur''' is a common term applied to [[furry]] fans who are big fans of rubber, latex, and similar materials. Rubberfurs come in all shapes and sizes, but application of their interest often involves a combination of rubber themes and [[anthropomorphic]] [[characters]] - such as [[artwork]] of furry characters wearing rubber, rubber items used as costume [[clothing]] for [[fursuit]]s (or rubbery suits with [[animal]] themes), and rubber-themed [[role-play]]. Other rubberfur themes can also involve [[symbiote]]s. Some rubberfurs are also [[balloonie]] fans and may be interested in [[inflation]].
'''Selkies''', also known as '''silkies''' or '''selchies''', are [[mythological]] [[creatures]] in Irish and Scottish mythology that can transform themselves from [[seal]]s to [[human]]s.

== Myth and history ==
The legend apparently originated in the [[W:Orkney Islands|Orkney Islands]], Scotland, where "selkie" is simply the local word for "'''seal'''", where the stories are generally romantic tragedies; I.e. A human and a selkie fall in love, but after a while, the selkie becomes restless and decides to return to the sea. Sometimes the human will not know that their lover is a selkie, and wakes to find them gone. Other times the human will hide the selkie's skin, thus preventing them from returning to seal form. The word is also spelled as ''silkies'', ''sylkies'', or ''selchies''. Selkies are sometimes referred to as '''selkie folk''', meaning ''''seal folk''''.

''[[The Grey Selkie of Suleskerry]]'' is a ballad typical of the former, while ''[[The Secret of Roan Inish]]'' is a movie telling the latter tale. ''[[Seal Child]]'' is a [[children's novel]] by [[W:Sylvia Peck|Sylvia Peck]] which details a modern retelling of this myth. ''Selkie'' is a 2000 Australian movie about a teenager living a good life who starts growing webbing between his fingers and having dreams of the water, he becomes a seal when he tries to save a friend and learns that he is a selkie.

== Transformation ==
Selkies are able to become humans by shedding their seal skins on land and can revert to seal form by putting the skins back on when going into the water, and they should not be mixed up with [[Silkie]]s (fictional [[ferret]]/[[cat]] people with exceptionally long, prehensile [[tail]]s).

'''Anubis''' is the Greek name for the ancient [[Jackal (species)|jackal]]-headed god of the dead in [[Egyptian mythology]]. His name is more accurately vocalized as '''Anapa''', but he is also known as '''Sekhem Em Pet'''. He serves as both a guide of the recently departed and a guardian of the dead. The female counterpart to Anubis is '''Anput''', sometimes shortened to '''Anpu'''.

The Jackal was associated with the domain of the dead, due to the fact that the jackal oriented in the Western Desert. The cult of Anubis eventually became associated with that of [[Wikipedia:Osiris|Osiris]], which led to the belief that he was the son of Osiris and [[Wikipedia:Nephthys|Nephthys]], the wife of [[Wikipedia:Sutekh|Set]], who seduced Osiris in order to have a son when she discovered Set was infertile.

He supervises the embalming and mummification processes, and presides over the Opening of the Mouth ceremony. He also performs the Weighing of the Heart ceremony, in which the deceased person's heart is weighed against [[Wikipedia:Ma'at|Ma'at]]'s Feather of Truth. If the heart is heavier then the feather, the heart is fed to [[Wikipedia:Ammut|Ammut]], the devourer of souls.

Anubis is also linked to the Imuit fetish, which is a headless stuffed animal skin hanging from a pole standing in a pot, often illustrated on stelae or papyri. A model was found in the tomb of Tutankhamun, but it is unknown what it was used for.

== Anubis animal ==
Anubis is traditionally said to have a head of a jackal which refers to the Egyptian jackal. Whether it's a subspecies of Golden jackal, subspecies of gray wolf or a species by itself, remains a topic of debate to this day. Ancient Greek considered it a wolf. In XX there was no consensus on the species' taxonomy. A 2007 DNA research placed it with Golden jackals, but a 2011 research placed it with gray wolves again and suggested that African wolf would be more appropriate name. As of 2015, the the term golden "jackal" is now updated as golden "wolf" following on genetic studies and similarities with other wolf species.<ref>{{cite web|url=http://news.sciencemag.org/biology/2015/07/african-golden-jackals-are-actually-golden-wolves |title=African golden jackals are actually golden wolves|accessdate=9 August 2015}}</ref><ref>{{cite web|url=https://www.theguardian.com/science/grrlscientist/2015/jul/30/golden-jackal-a-new-wolf-species-hiding-in-plain-sight |title=Golden jackal: A new wolf species hiding in plain sight|accessdate=9 August 2015}}</ref>

Another sacred animal of Anubis was a domestic dog which he was sometimes depicted as.

Ancient Egyptians depicted jackals and dogs very alike and sometimes depicted animals that looked like jackals and dogs at the same time. This canonical canine has thin black body, long legs, pointed muzzle and erect ears. It's that animal, it may be a jackal, a wolf or a dog, which is seen in works of artists inspired by Anubis.

The Anubis in either way, can be portrayed with or without a tail and is usually depicted with black fur.

==Anubis, Anput, and furry==
Anubis and Anput are very popular among [[furry fans]] because of their [[anthropomorphic]] [[Jackal (species)|jackal]] form. As a result, they are a very popular subject of [[furry artwork]]. Many furries pattern themselves after Anubis or Anput, making jackals one of the more popular species of furry in the fandom.
A '''mouse''' (plural: '''mice''') is a small [[rodent]] of the genus ''[[Wikipedia:Mus|Mus]]'', belonging to the family ''[[Wikipedia:Muridae|Muridae]]''. They live in many situations on most of the planet's continents.

The mouse is a popular children's character, embodying many properties associated with the young: small size, mischief, vulnerability, and innocence. In many ways it is seen as the friendly cousin of the [[rat]], despite the two often overlapping in their habits, and the rat making a more socializable pet.

Like most rodents, mice are rapid breeders and can build up a population very quickly if allowed to breed, which causes problems in places where they are not welcome, such as farms or houses. However, unlike with [[rabbit]]s, it rarely comes into their popular characterization.

==Varieties of mice==

The word "mouse" most often refers to the [[field mouse]], a small, brown, wild species.

Mice that are seen indoors are usually the [[house mouse]], a different species that often causes trouble for the houses it lives in by damaging property and leaving droppings.

Mice are also common animals for laboratory testing. The stereotypical [[lab mouse]] is depicted as having white fur.

The '''''Redwall''''' series is a series of books written by [[Brian Jacques]] published from 1986 to 2011 that features [[anthropomorphic]] [[character]]s.

The characters of ''Redwall'' are all animals of various anthropomorphic quality, and the stories are centered around Redwall Abbey in a medieval-type setting. The books are geared towards the adolescent audience and contain action, adventure and tales of bravery.

A central figure in the ongoing ''Redwall'' tales is Martin the Warrior, a [[mouse]] who freed enslaved animals and helped in the founding of the abbey. He appears in almost all the books as a spirit or guide.

The animals commonly featured in ''Redwall'' include [[Mouse|mice]], [[badger]]s, [[otter]]s, [[Squirrel_(species)|squirrel]]s, [[hare]]s ("good beasts") and [[Rat (species)|rat]]s, [[fox]]es, [[weasel]]s, [[wildcat]]s and [[wolves]] ("vermin," or the bad beasts.)

The series has been made into an [[Redwall (show)|animated series]] ([http://v1.nelvana.com/redwall/ website]) produced by Nelvana, and has been used as the basis of [[Redwall MUCK]]. In addition, there is a Redwall section on [[Sociopolitical Ramifications MUCK]] that contains many beautiful descriptions of settings from the stories. While the Socio Redwall area has largely been abandoned by [[role-play]]ers, visitors may still find exploration a heartwarming experience.
'''Selkies''', also known as '''silkies''' or '''selchies''', are [[mythological]] [[creatures]] in Irish and Scottish mythology that can transform themselves from [[seal]]s to [[human]]s.

== Myth and history ==
Selkies are sometimes referred to as '''selkie folk''' ({{lang-sco|selkie fowk}}), meaning ''''seal folk''''.

== Transformation ==

'''Greek mythology''' encompasses the beliefs and rituals of [[Wikipedia:Classical Greece|Classical Greece]].
It had a following for over three thousand years until the establishment of [[Christian|Christianity]] and [[Wikipedia:Islam|Islam]].
Unlike many ancient religions, the [[Wikipedia:Ancient Greece|ancient Greeks]] passed on most of their mythology by telling stories<ref>http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oral_tradition</ref> about cult and ritual practices, gods, heroes, and the nature of the world.
Due to the nature of oral traditions, there are different versions of the same tales, which may merged together later on.

== Greek mythology and furries ==

Greek mythology has no end of stories or characters that appeal to [[furries]], from human/animal [[hybrid]]s, to stories of [[transformation]]s.
Some [[furry spirituality|furry spiritualists]] consider this to be one of the earliest forms of furry.

Examples of Greek mythological creatures that have made their way to furry today include:

* [[Minotaur]]s
* [[Centaur]]s
* [[Wikipedia:Satyr|Satyr]]s
* [[Wikipedia:Faun|Faun]]s
* [[Wikipedia:Dragons in Greek mythology|Dragons]], such as Ladon and [[Wikipedia:Python (mythology)|Python]] and the Hydra
* [[Chimera (mythical beast)|Chimera]]s, such as the creature of the same name and the [[Sphinx]]

=== Foxes in Greek mythology ===

Even [[Fox|foxes]], which are a furry favorite, appear in Greek mythology, most noticeably the [[Wikipedia:Teumessian fox|Teumessian fox]], a gigantic fox destined never to be caught, sent by the gods to prey upon the children of Thebes as a punishment. Amphitryon, the stepfather of the Greek hero [[Wikipedia:Hercules|Hercules]], stopped the fox by catching the magical [[dog]] Laelaps, who was destined to catch everything it chased. [[Wikipedia:Zeus|Zeus]], faced with an inevitable contradiction in fate (an uncatchable fox being pursued by an unavoidable dog) turned the pair of beasts into stone and transmuted them into constellations in the sky.

=== Transformation stories in Greek mythology ===

[[Image:Dianaactaeon.jpg|right|thumb|250px|Diana transforming the hunter Actaeon into a deer]]
Transformation is another common theme in Greek mythology. Many stories were recorded by the poet Ovid in his collection ''The Metamorphoses,'' a narrative of over 100 stories from myth and legend. Many stories surround a maiden or a man transformed into a beast often for sex or as a punishment. An example of this is the story of [[Wikipedia:Actaeon|Actaeon]], a young prince and hunter who stumbled across the goddess Artemis bathing. Actaeon hid in the bushes and spied on her as she continued to bathe; she was enraged to discover the spy, and turned him into a [[deer|stag]] which was pursued and killed by his own hounds.

Another story relates to [[Wikipedia:Io (mythology)|Io]], a beautiful nymph seduced by the god Zeus. When Zeus was caught, he tried to hide Io by turning her into a [[cow]]. [[Wikipedia:Hera|Hera]], Zeus's wife demanded that the cow be given to her as a tribute and Zeus was forced to agree. Hera forced her to wander the earth plagued by a gadfly until Zeus was able to transform her back into [[human]].

[[Image:Lycaon.jpg|right|thumb|250px|Zeus turning Lycaon into a wolf]]
Among the oldest [[werewolf]] stories are derived from Greek myth. [[Wikipedia:Pausanias (geographer)|Pausanias]] wrote that the first king of Arcadia, [[Wikipedia:Lycaon (mythology)|Lycaon]], made human sacrifices to Zeus (some sources suggest cannibalism) who in turn punished Lycaon by turning him into a [[wolf (species)|wolf]]. One of the oldest cults in history, attributed to Zeus Lycaeus, has its origins in that story: an annual sacrifice was held in Zeus's honor, in which a man was chosen to become a wolf. If, in ten years, he abstained from human flesh, he was permitted to regain his humanity. Such a cult has since been driven out by more Hellenistic followers of Zeus.

The witch [[Wikipedia:Circe|Circe]] was fond of transforming men into beasts such as [[lion]]s and wolves. When the Greek hero [[Wikipedia:Odysseus|Odysseus]] came to her island, she transformed several of his men into [[pig]]s.

== Greek deities bearing anthropomorphic animal features ==
*[[Wikipedia:Pan (god)|Pan]], god of nature, the wild, shepherds, flocks, of mountain wilds, and is often associated with sexuality - Traditionally depicted as a Satyr (usually portraying him as mostly human with goat-like features).
In [[Greek mythology]], the '''Minotaur''' was a creature that was half [[human|man]] and half [[bull]]. It dwelt in the [[Wikipedia:Labyrinth|Labyrinth]], an elaborate maze constructed by [[Wikipedia:King Minos|King Minos]] of [[Wikipedia:Crete|Crete]] and designed by the architect [[Wikipedia:Daedalus|Daedalus]] to hold the Minotaur. The Minotaur was eventually killed by [[Wikipedia:Theseus|Theseus]]. It is one of the earliest examples of an [[anthropomorphic]] character in history.

==The legend of the Minotaur==

[[Image:Minotaur.jpg|left|150px]]
Before Minos of Knossos became king of Crete he asked the Greek god [[Wikipedia:Poseidon|Poseidon]] for a sign to assure him that he, and not his brother, was to receive the throne.

Poseidon was very angry when he realized what had been done, so he caused Minos's wife, [[Wikipedia:Pasiphae|Pasiphae]], to be overcome with a fit of madness in which she fell in love with the bull. Pasiphae went to Daedalus for assistance, and Daedalus devised a way for her to [[bestiality|satisfy her passions]]. He constructed a hollow wooden cow covered with cowhide for Pasiphae to hide in and allow the bull to mount her. The result of this union was the Minotaur. In some accounts, the white bull went on to become the [[Wikipedia:Cretan Bull|Cretan Bull]] captured by [[Wikipedia:Hercules|Hercules]] for one of his [[Wikipedia:Labours of Hercules|labours]].

The Minotaur had the body of a man and the head and tail of a bull. It was a fierce creature, and Minos, after getting advice from the Oracle at Delphi, had Daedalus construct a gigantic labyrinth to hold the Minotaur. It was located under Minos' palace in Knossos.
[[Image:Minotaurdeath.jpg|right|thumb|160px|Theseus slays the Minotaur]]
Minos had just won a great victory over the Athenians, so demanded that seven Athenian youths and seven maidens be sent every ninth year to be devoured by the Minotaur. When the third sacrifice came round, the Greek hero Theseus volunteered to go to slay the monster. [[Wikipedia:Ariadne|Ariadne]], Minos' daughter, fell in love with Theseus and helped him get out of the maze by giving him a ball of thread, allowing him to retrace his path. Theseus killed the Minotaur (with a magical sword Ariadne had given him) and led the other Athenians back out the labyrinth.

Minos, angry that Theseus was able to escape, imprisoned Daedalus and his son [[Wikipedia:Icarus|Icarus]] in the labyrinth. They were able to escape by building wings for themselves, but Icarus famously died during the escape.

Sometimes the Minotaur is represented as a bull with a human torso instead of a head, like a bull version of the [[Centaur]].

A similar creature is a [[Satyr]], which has the rear legs, tail, ears and horns of a [[goat]] or the rear legs, tail and ears of a horse and the body of a human.

==Truth behind the legend==

The story of the Minotaur may have come from the Minoan worship of the bull. Shrines throughout Crete have been uncovered dedicated to the bull, which was to represent strength. Crete was a military nation, the very first maritime military empire in the world.

[[Image:Bulldancelg.jpg|left|thumb|200px|Bulljumping, a popular sport and important sacred ritual in Minoan culture]]
The concept of the sacrificing of youths to bulls may have come from the ancient sport of [[Wikipedia:bulljumping|bulljumping]]. The sport was extremely popular in Minoan culture and much art exists of it that archaeologists at first believed to be some sort of ritualistic sacrifice. In bulljumping, the naked youth ([[male]] or [[female]]) would run at a charging bull and in a display of athletic prowess and courage, grab the bull by the horns and vault over the bull. The mortality rate of this sport was very high, again lending to the legend.

[[Image:Minoanbull.jpg|right|thumb|101px|The Minoan Bull Head, a famous religious artifact. Photo by [[Ken Redtail]]]]
Massive ruins that are believed to be the ruins of Minos' palace have been found at Knossos, but the labyrinth has not. The enormous number of rooms, staircases and corridors in the palace led romantic Victorian archaeologists to believe that the palace itself was the source of the myth, but the absence of creature comforts like bathroom facilities tend to disprove this theory in modern day. It is now often believed to be some sort of temple, similar to [[Wikipedia:Solomon|King Solomon]]'s temple.

Some modern mythologists regard the Minotaur as a solar personification and a Greek adaptation of the Baal-Moloch of the [[Wikipedia:Phoenicia|Phoenicians]]. The slaying of the Minotaur by Theseus in that case indicates the abolition of such sacrifice by the advance of Greek civilization.

A political interpretation has that the Greeks freed themselves from the tributes and the power of Crete.

==Minotaurs in furry and popular culture==
The concept though of a half-man, half-bull, is one of the earliest examples of [[anthropomorphic]] characters, but minotaurs as a whole are quite uncommon in the [[furry fandom]].

On furry visual novels, minotaur and bovine characters have appeared in a few instances:
* In [[Minotaur Hotel]] the story revolves around Asterion, the minotaur from the Greek legend, in current-day Earth.
* [[Killigan's Treasure]] features a bovine race called bovos. The protagonist, Killigan, belongs to this race.

Minotaurs feature in some [[fantasy]] [[role-playing game]]s as a race of monsters rather than a unique creature:
* In ''[[Dungeons & Dragons]]'' minotaurs worship the demon lord Baphomet, and whilst they mainly function as mere monsters, in the ''Dragonlance'' campaign setting, they are a reasonably civilised and cultured race.
* In [[World of Warcraft]], the [[Tauren]] are essentially a race of minotaurs.
* The card game [[Wikipedia:Magic: the Gathering|Magic: the Gathering]] features minotaurs as being both savage (the Hurloon minotaurs) and tribal yet somewhat cultured (the Talruum).
* In the online game [[Wikipedia:Shadowbane|Shadowbane]], players are able to assume the role of a minotaur, and minotaurs in general form a key role in the backstory and lore and are depicted as a full range, from the savage to the civilized.
* In the online game ''Dark Age of Camelot'', the minotaur was introduced as a playable race as well as a monster in an expansion.
* In the ''Warhammer'' setting, minotaurs are a breed of beastmen chosen by the Chaos Gods to guard their temples. Minotaur champions, known as 'Doom Bulls' also lead armies of beastmen, mortals, and daemons.
* A SciFi Channel original movie depicted the minotaur as a large undead bull monster, a departure of the usual image of the minotaur.
* Ox, the on-stage persona of one of the members of the Finnish band Lordi, is described as being an undead 'man-bull', a reference to the mythical minotaur.
* [[Thomas Burnett Swann]]'s ''Minotaur Trilogy'' of fantasy novels features Silver Bells and Eunostos, last two of their race; possessing more humanoid heads and faces than classical depictions of minotaurs, they are more like bovine versions of satyrs.

==The legend of the Minotaur==

[[Image:Minotaur.jpg|left|150px]]
Before Minos of Knossos became king of Crete he asked the Greek god [[Wikipedia:Poseidon|Poseidon]] for a sign to assure him that he, and not his brother, was to receive the throne.

A similar creature is a [[Saytr]], which has the rear legs, ears and horns of a [[goat]] and the body of a human.

==Truth behind the legend==

'''Chakat Goldfur''' is perhaps the best known [[chakat]] of all, created by [[Bernard Doove]].

== Story ==

Goldfur, a [[cougar]]-patterned [[chakat]] with long blond hair, was born 26 September 2300 to Chakats Longstripe and Desertsand. Shi had a happy normal childhood and, after graduating, shi joined the Star Corps (the non-military arm of the Star Services). Shi is a highly-skilled electronics technician, and currently serves as lead technician on exploration starships.

Goldfur, as many chakats, has multiple [[mate]]s. With [[Lupu]], shi has had two children, Greypaw (deceased) and Stonefur; with [[Garrek]], shi has had/will have four children, [[Eudora Whitepaw]] and Tailstalker so far, with Aura and Sandstorm destined to be born later; and with Malena, shi has had Blaze, with Firestripe and Shani to come, and finally late in life, [[Forestwalker]] will give hir Joysong. Shi has been both mother and father.

One of hir notable traits is how shi has gone from optimistic to suspicious, due firstly to the kidnapping and threat to hir daughter Eudora, and then the murder of hir daughter Greypaw in a racial riot.

== Appearances ==

Chakat Goldfur appears in the [[Forest Tales]] series, which has been published in Fur Plus, and in a stand-alone book, ''[[Transformations (comic)|Transformations]]''. Shi also appears in the comic ''[[4 Footed Furries]]'' and the webcomic ''[[Apollo 9]]''.
'''Animorphs''' was a book series created by [[Wikipedia:K.A. Applegate|K.A. Applegate]] and published by [[Wikipedia:Scholastic|Scholastic]] running from 1996 to 2001. There were 64 books in all, including 54 'main universe' books, four ''Megamorphs'' (double-sized books), four standalone novels, and two choose-your-own-adventure. In addition, there were Animorphs [[Transformers]], video games, and a short-lived TV show on Nickelodeon.

== Premise ==

In the series, the main enemy was the '''Yeerks''', a [[species]] of mind-controlling [[Wikipedia:parasite|parasitic]] slug-like [[alien]]s who enter the brain through the ear of their hosts. In order to fight the Yeerks, a group of five young [[human]]s is given the gift of [[shapeshifting]] by a dying [[alien]] named Elfangor.

The shapeshifting ability allows these humans, who adopt the name Animorphs for themselves, to absorb DNA or genetic material by touch, and then transform into that animal. They can only remain shapeshifted for a maximum of two hours, however; after this the change is permanent. This fate befalls the main character Tobias in the first book, and his difficulties with being stuck as an animal are explored over the series.

The six main characters are Jake (signature morph: [[tiger]]), Cassie (signature morph: [[wolf]]), Marco (signature morph: [[gorilla]]), Rachel (signature morph: [[elephant]] until book seven at which point it alternates between elephant and [[Bear (species)|grizzly bear]]), Tobias (signature morph: red-tailed [[hawk]]), and Aximili (an Andalite, a sort of [[Wikipedia:psychic|psychic]] [[deer]]-[[scorpion]] [[taur]] alien). Aximili was rescued from the remnants of an Andalite Dome Ship in the fourth book. In the next (fifth) book, Marco discovers that his mother (sometimes called Eva, other times called Laura) is Visser One. In book six, Jake accidentally falls into a Yeerk Pool and ends up with the Yeerk, named Temrash, who used to be in his brother Tom's head in his. At the very end, Jake sees a Big Red Eye, who isn't named until the twenty-sixth book. The fanbase at this point was already very strong and was able to persuade Applegate to bring back the B.R.E., as the fans had started calling him. Another fan-induced idea happened in books five and thirteen when a member of the usually dumb Hork-Bajir "started talking like he had a Harvard education", as Marco put it in book five. Eight books later, a name was given to this type of Hork-Bajir: Seer. A fan named [[Erin K. Dover]] had persuaded Applegate to use intelligent Hork-Bajir.
(Note: The original term Dover used was Hork-Bajir Thinker, not Hork-Bajir Seer.)

In the twenty-third book, it is discovered that Aximili, or Ax, as the others call him, is Tobias' uncle, although the fans had known this ever since the Andalite Chronicles came out.
==Characters==
===Puzzle===

'''Puzzle''' is a [[giraffe]] character created by Kadath. She is often seen partnered with Diamond, and is popular due to her sweet-natured, ditzy personality, and unique take on giraffes.
====History====

Puzzle's real name is '''Patricia Patel'''. She is nicknamed Puzzle for her puzzle-shaped spots and her ditzy personality. She is also the sister of Patrick.

Puzzle's parents were from Oxford, England, but their family was from [[Wikipedia:Kenya|Kenya]]. They moved to India before Puzzle was born. She was born and raised in [[Wikipedia:India|India]] for the first eight years of her life, learning old-fashioned [[Wikipedia:Indian_English|Indian English]] while living there. To this day, she still uses outdated Victorian phrases or words, though her accent is distinctly Oxford.

When she was eight, her parents moved back to England and she spent the rest of her life there. Puzzle's parents were doctors and were rich, but she decided to live on her own in London. She still keeps up with them through letters, and she also writes letters to her huge family that are spread all over Africa and Europe.

====Personality====

Puzzle is very innocent and child-like and is likable because of her ditsy personality. She is very gentle and nice, and tends to attract company. Her massive height puts off some people, and it has been a feature of her that she regrets quite often.

====Interests====

Puzzle is a big fan of British sitcoms and enjoys feel-good movies. She also loves to take care of animals and often visits the [[Zoological park|zoo]]. She is a bit of a nature-lover but she does not participate in any activist campaigns, unlike [[#Glitter|Glitter]].

====Relationships====

Puzzle gets along well with everybody, but especially with Diamond. After meeting her in the office of "Cumsplatter Toys Inc." where they both worked (and which Puzzle had no clue what an adult toy company was), Puzzle followed Diamond around like a puppy. Puzzle ended up living with Diamond because Puzzle unknowingly burnt down her flat by leaving her oven running while she went out (though unconfirmed rumours say it was somebody else committing [[Wikipedia:arson|arson]]). Diamond developed a crush on Puzzle, but didn't want her finding out about her stripper job. Puzzle followed her to the club one day and to Diamond's delight, enjoyed watching her dance and is now a regular customer. Though many assume she is a stripper herself, Puzzle can't dance and is rather shy about her body.

Puzzle and Diamond eventually formed a romantic relationship, which was a first for Puzzle. Diamond's [[polyamorous]] habits deeply bother Puzzle, however.

Puzzle has a rivalry with Midnight the cat, though she doesn't realise it. Midnight is an American intern and is very athletic and competitive. She never wants to lose, but she often challenges Puzzle to sports matches, most of which Puzzle has no clue how to play. However, Puzzle always wins by chance, and this infuriates Midnight to no end. Puzzle has no idea that Midnight resents her, though to everybody else it's obvious.

Puzzle took a stray [[cat]] under her wing and named him [[Wikipedia:Disraeli|Disraeli]]. Diamond was introduced to Disraeli when she came home one day to find the kitchen a mess and Puzzle trying to keep Disraeli in a cooking pot (which wasn't heated yet). Puzzle admitted she was trying to surprise Diamond with a home-grown meal, but was confused when the ingredients included 'cat soup'. Being a [[herbivore]], she didn't know what to do, especially since she didn't want to hurt Disraeli. Diamond read the ingredients and realised she misread [[Wikipedia:catsup|catsup]]. All was forgiven and Disraeli is now Diamond and Puzzle's pet.

====Appearances====

Puzzle appeared in [[Hit the Beach]] 2006, and an adults-only portfolio entitled "Pieces of the Puzzle" went on sale in Fall 2006. A humorous, adult one-shot comic written and drawn by Kadath about Diamond's daily life features Puzzle. It is as-yet unpublished.

===Diamond===
[[File:Diamond.jpg|thumb|100px|Diamond the zebra, as drawn by Kadath]]

'''Diamond''' was the first character created by Kadath, and is his most popular, rivaled only by Puzzle. She is a purple-striped zebra who resides in London's [[Wikipedia:East End of London|East End]].

====History====

Diamond's real name is '''Bridget Abdulmajid''', and her nickname comes from a diamond-shaped marking on her forehead. She was born in [[Wikipedia:Nigeria|Nigeria]], and moved to [[Wikipedia:England|England]] at a young age. Her parents were very traditional, and forced their daughter to retain her African values and not try to fit in with the English kids. This resulted in her being very shy and withdrawn, and the object of ridicule.

Then one day she met a native-born [[Cheetah (species)|cheetah]] named Alex, who was a misfit and planned on becoming a rockstar. Diamond fell in love with him, seeing him as a kindred spirit. Alex told Diamond to do what she wanted and never let others control her. Diamond took this to heart and began to dress and act like other English girls. Diamond also became very sexually experienced with Alex and his friends at this time. Her parents were appalled and kicked her out of her home. At the same time, Alex moved away to pursue his musical dreams. Alone and distraught, Diamond moved to London to try to find a new life.

She began working at an adult toy company called "Cumsplatter Toys Inc." as a receptionist. Finding the job adequate but wanting more from life, she decided to visit a local strip club, called "[[The Safari]]". Upon hearing an 1980s song she really liked and beginning to dance to it, the manager noted the unusual [[zebra]] and decided to hire her as an exotic dancer. To this day, Diamond is the most popular girl at the club and frequently has trysts with co-workers and customers without her boss's knowledge.

====Personality====

Diamond is very outgoing and dominating in nature. While not particularly mean, she knows how to get her way.

====Interests====
Diamond secretly has an extreme fondness for cheesy 1940s and 1950s sci-fi movies. Her favourite movie is "Space Cats from Mars". The walls of her flat are adorned with vintage pulp movie posters and toys, and she has an enormous DVD collection of old films. She never lets anybody, except close friends, know that she is essentially a geek.

Diamond is obsessed with 80s music. It's the only music she allows to be played when she's performing at the club, because it's the only music that gets her going. From what little she's said about Alex to her friends, it's been surmised she prefers 80s music because that was the first type of music he introduced to her.

====Relationships====

Diamond has had trysts with [[#Vince|Vince]] the [[rhino]], [[#Dax|Dax]] the [[Wolf (species)|wolf]], and [[#Ruby|Ruby]] the [[red panda]], but she has had long-term relationships with Glitter the gazelle and Puzzle the giraffe, the latter who is her live-in girlfriend and main love. Diamond and [[#Nightshade|Nightshade]] the [[jackal]] share an enmity of currently unknown origin, and they sometimes trade profane and demeaning insults. However, their hatred motivates them to avoid each other most of the time.

===Glitter===
[[File:Glitter.jpg|thumb|100px|Glitter, drawn by Kadath]]
'''Glitter''' (real name: '''Victoria Wilcox''') is a gazelle. She is a stripper at "The Safari". She was created and drawn by Kadath.

Glitter and her young brother moved to London when she was in her teens. They lived in the East End and barely scraped by. Then one day her brother was playing ball in the street when a drunk driver hit him and killed him. Glitter became so distraught that she developed a hatred towards native Brits.

Glitter stripped at "The Safari" to survive, since she became notoriously political and was often fired very quickly from regular day jobs. She found the strip club and it's all-exotic girls theme to be rather offensive, but she liked the girls there, particularly Diamond the zebra, enough to stay. She is in love with Diamond and wants to get her involved in her political groups, but Diamond has so far declined to join.

Glitter lives in a run-down flat and sleeps on the floor, which is covered with sheets. She is poor, but finds time to play acoustic guitar and compose songs which talk about her feelings. She has yet to have them published because of her strong anti-English political feelings. She is a part of several online pro-African immigrant groups and supports them with donations and participates in rallies. The donations she gives them are one of the reasons she is poor. Despite being very popular at "The Safari", she gives most of her money to the Immigrant Awareness Movemnt (I AM), which coaxes her to do so.

[[File:Ruby.jpg|thumb|100px|Ruby, drawn by Kadath]]

===Ruby===
'''Ruby''' is a [[red panda]]. She is a stripper at "The Safari".
Ruby is from Asia and is very intelligent but shy. She immigrated to England and does not know English too fluently. She is bothered by her communication barriers, but hangs out with the girls at the club, though she is often a tag along and chooses not to talk much.

[[File:Dax_OC_by_Kadath.jpg|left|thumb|100px|Dax, as drawn by Kadath]]

===Dax===
'''Dax''' (real name: '''Dexter Smith''') is a [[Wolf (species)|wolf]] living in London. He is a [[male]] stripper at "[[The Elephant's Trunk]]".

Dax has had an on-again, off-again relationship with Diamond, and is her favourite male companion. He is also rumoured to have a relationship with Vince, the bouncer at "The Safari" strip club.

[[File:Vince_OC_by_Kadath.jpg|thumb|100px|Vince, as drawn by Kadath]]

===Vince===
'''Vince''' (real name: '''Vincent Strong''') is a [[rhinoceros]] and is a bouncer at "The Safari" strip club. Though outwardly tough and imposing, he is deep down a really nice guy.

He has had trysts with Diamond, a stripper there, and Dax, a frequent customer. Dax is also a male stripper at "The Elephant's Trunk" and has tried to get Vince to dance there, though he has been unsuccessful thus far.

Currently there are plans for a Vince and Dax one-shot comic, intended for publication. The comic is yet unfinished.

[[File:Nightshade.jpg|left|thumb|100px|Nightshade, drawn by Kadath]]

===Nightshade===
'''Nightshade''' is a [[Jackal (species)|jackal]], Born in Egypt, raised in Scotland and is a stripper at "The Safari". Not much is known about her except that she is considered gothic and has a dark mystique about her. She does not get along with the other girls at "The Safari", mostly because of her rude behaviour and quiet nature.

===Dynamite===
'''Dynamite''' is a [[Cheetah (species)|cheetah]] and a stripper at "The Safari". She is nicknamed Dynamite because, being a cheetah, she has extreme ADHD, but she takes medication to keep herself calm. However, she takes so much medication that she appears nonchalant and dull, but when the medicine wears off she explodes with energy, hence the nickname.

[[File:Olivia.jpg|thumb|100px|Olivia, drawn by Kadath]]
===Olivia===
'''Olivia''' (real name: '''Olivia Delacroix''') is a [[Wikipedia:French Canadians|French-Canadian]] [[Wikipedia:Oryx|oryx]] who is the main character of a recent series of stories (unrelated to the characters and location of "The Safari" strip club) created by Kadath, currently being posted on [[Fur Affinity]].<ref name="OLIVIA"></ref><ref name="TPP">[https://www.furaffinity.net/view/34913055/, ''The Pleasure Principle'' by Kadath], Retrieved May 2, 2018.</ref>

===Gabby===
'''Gabby''' (real name: '''Gabriella Lane''') is a [[sheep]] who is Olivia's best friend.<ref name="OLIVIA"></ref><ref name="TPP"></ref>

===Patrick===
'''Patrick''' is Puzzle's brother.

===Sebastian===
'''Sebastian''' is a Saluki. He is of Dutch origin and works as a game developer. Sebastian is a great friend of benefits to Diamond and Puzzle; he also has an eye for Puzzle's brother, Patrick, and would jokingly tease the male giraffe from time to time. Sebastian sometimes smokes marijuana to unwind.
[[File:Bad guy Jeran Lobo.jpg|right|thumb|[[Jeran Lobo]], a fictional wolf character in ''[[Extinctioners]]'']]
The '''wolf''' (''Canis lupus''), also known as the '''gray wolf''' or '''grey wolf''', is a large [[canine]] native to [[W:Euroasia|Eurasia]] and [[W:North America|North America]].

These canines are defined as any of several large [[carnivorous]] [[mammal]]s of the genus ''Canis'', of the dog family [[Canidae]], and are one of the [[List of most popular phenotypes|most popular]] [[species]] for [[fursona]]s in the [[furry fandom]].

==Historical views==

In [[W:Ancient Rome|Ancient Rome]], wolves were considered symbols of sexual potency as well as good mothers, the latter easily noticeable in the Roman foundation myth of [[wikipedia:Romulus and Remus|Romulus and Remus]], where the twins were raised by a she-wolf. [[W:Native_Americans_in_the_United_States|Native Americans]] revere the [[W:Animal_worship|Wolf Totem]] in a different light, seeing wolves as Pathfinders and Guardians. This flies in contrast to the place of the wolf in most western history, wolves having been primarily seen as creatures to be feared, a viewpoint even noted in religious texts such as the Bible: "Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves."

==Modern perspective==

Though the connotations associated with the wolf from ages past still lingers, the view of the wolf today is constantly evolving. Everything from scientific research and readily available documentaries to books and films has done much to alter the public view of these creatures, one notable such example being the film ''[[W:Never Cry Wolf|Never Cry Wolf]]''. As the wild ancestors of domestic [[dog]]s, wolves are both familiar and exotic to [[human]]s, which might explain their continuing fascination. Wolves have almost become cliches in some types of modern historical and [[fantasy]] fiction, shown as noble, savage, or a mixture of both qualities. ''[[The Wolves of Time]]'' duology included wolf characters from nobly self-sacrificing through to unrepentantly evil. In the [[furry fandom]], a mix of both elements is seen: admiration and distrust.
'''Crux''' is a [[male]] blue-furred [[Labrador]]/[[wolf]] mix. He is also the main character of the [[BFCC]] [[webcomic]] (appropriately titled '''[[BFCC: Crux's Tale]]'''{{fact}}.) He is known mostly for his artistic side.

Crux is also featured in the [[BF Funnies]] [[webcomic]], supposedly as a crossover with his BFCC storyline.

Crux was briefly mentioned on [[Uncle Kage's Story Hour]] during [[Anthrocon 2007]] and was apparently a large participant of the [[art show]] with 7 panels in the general auction.

Crux attended [[Megaplex 7]] (2008) with members of A.R.F. an anthropomorphics club from an art school in Florida. While he had no prints or original artwork for sale, he was doing 30 minute sketches for $10.00 a piece and $1.00 badges.

Recently, Crux has apparently started a revival project for BFCC. Details regarding the project, other than the production of concept artwork and the inclusion of a choice set of artists and writers, have been kept under wraps. What is known is that concept art will be shown supposedly on a monthly basis at the original website for his webcomic.

In some cases it can involve [[symbiote]]s. Some rubberfurs are also [[balloonie]] fans and may be interested in [[inflation]].
