Monster (from Latin Monstrum) is a type of fictional creature found in horror, fantasy, science fiction, folklore, mythology, and/or religion.

Monsters are very often depicted as dangerous and aggressive with a strange, grotesque appearance that causes terror and fear. Monsters usually resemble bizarre, deformed, otherworldly and/or mutated animals or entirely unique creatures of varying size, but may also take a human form, such as mutants, ghosts and spirits, zombies or cannibals, among other things. They may or may not have supernatural powers, but are usually capable of killing or causing some form of destruction, threatening the social or moral order of the human world in the process.

Etymology
The exact meaning depends on certain contexts:
* Something of unnatural size, shape, or quality.
* Specifically, an animal or plant departing greatly from the usual type, as by having too many limbs.
* Anything or human of unnatural or excessive ugliness,... wickedness, or cruelty.
* Creatures being held for the extermination of the main hero of a game on the way to victory or to improve performance.
* Creatures that are neither people nor animals.

Taurens are huge bipedal anthropomorphic bovines, in appearance resembling the Minotaur of Greek mythology. They weigh almost half a ton and can grow up to 12 ft tall. Their name is an anagram for "nature", as well as a reference to the constellation Taurus the bull.

Original concept art shows them with three fingers and a thumb, and the models in Warcraft III seem to reflect this. However, in World of Warcraft, Tauren were given thick forearms with two fingers and a thumb.

In Warcraft III, the icon for Warstomp, a Tauren ability, shows a single-toed hoof, far more akin to a horse's foot than a cow's.
However, the models in the game do show cloven hooves, more like Earth cows.

In World of Warcraft, the foot structure changed again, making the Tauren flat footed (unlike real cows) and rounding the tips of their hooves considerably.
Sexual dimorphism
Sexual dimorphism is present in the species, with the males being eight feet tall with an enormous, muscular build and larger horns. == Trivia ==

*Tauren shamans are often seen carrying their ancestral totems, which are essentially large carved out logs. These logs are often used as weapons, along with the polearm weapon that the chieftains use.

*Other Shamans carry staves or maces, and although they have the ability to learn how to use daggers, their ecologically focused beliefs do not allow them to wield large swords, however, warrior tauren still do.

*With the Wrath of the Lich King expansion pack for WoW, the Tauren first came in contact with a distant relative of their race, the Taunka. A werewolf, also known as a lycanthrope in folklore and mythology, is a person who changes into a wolf, caused by purposefully using magic, by being placed under a curse or affliction (often a bite or the occasional scratch from another werewolf) with the transformations occurring on the night of a full moon.

The medieval chronicler Gervase of Tilbury associated the transformation with the appearance of the full moon, but this concept was rarely associated with the werewolf until the idea was picked up by modern fiction writers. Most modern references agree that a werewolf can be killed if shot by a silver bullet, although this is more a reflection of fiction's influence than an authentic feature of the folk legends. A more realistic approach that seems to be closer to the truth, and has been incorporated into more recent works of fiction and movies, is that, for all the supernatural aspects of these creatures, they are still beings of flesh and blood, so they can be killed with any weapon that does enough damage. In many forms of fiction and media, werewolves can either be portrayed with or without tails.

Further inner belief
Some people call themselves weres or therians and believe they can physically or spiritually shift into a (were)wolf or other (were)animals (though some cases can be classified as clinical lycanthropy), although the therians strongly disagree with the physical side of this and seek to disprove any physical aspect of shifting, making it a purely spiritual phenomenon. This, however, is not a subculture within the furry fandom, but rather a separate phenomenon unto itself. Werewolves are also popular amongst transformation fans.

Lycanthropy
The ability of a human to undergo transformation into a wolf or werewolf is classically known as lycanthropy (deriving from the Greek words lykoi for wolf and anthropos for man). In common usage, it can refer to the transformation of a human into any animal form; though a more specific term for this is therianthropy. Remus Lupin, from the Harry Potter books, suffers from lycanthropy.

The term takes its name from an Arcadian king named Lycaon in Greek mythology who, with his fifty impious sons, made an inappropriate sacrifice of human flesh to the god Zeus. The god, displeased with the sacrifice, either killed them all immediately with a lightning bolt or, more popularly in myth, turned the king and his sons into wolves.

In psychology, lycanthropy (referred to as clinical lycanthropy) is a mental illness diagnosis where the patient believes that he or she is a wild animal.

Werewolves in fiction
Werewolves have been portrayed in many works of fiction in the media of literature, comics, drama, and film.

Werewolf literature includes folklore, legend, saga, fairy tales, gothic and horror fiction, fantasy fiction, and poetry. Such stories may be supernatural, symbolic, or allegorical. The archetypal portrayal of a werewolf in popular consciousness is probably that in the horror film The Wolf Man (1941) in which Lon Chaney, Jr. transforms into a werewolf at the full moon, and in later films teams up with Frankenstein and Dracula, as one of the three famous horror icons of the modern day.

However, werewolf fiction is an exceptionally diverse genre with ancient folkloric roots and manifold modern re-interpretations. Werewolves have also been featured in comic books with three of them being Spider-Man's John Jameson, son of J. Jonah Jameson, who has a werewolf form called the Man-Wolf from a gemstone called the Godstone, Wolfsbane, who is part of the X-Men, and Werewolf by Night in the Marvel comic books.

History
In some stories (derived from folk tales and medieval theology), the werewolf was demonic, part of Satan's army of darkness, inimical to the human race and having a craving for human flesh. This appears as a theme of the Gothic horror story The White Wolf of the Hartz Mountains (1839) by Frederick Marryat which features a monstrous spirit-being that transforms from wolf to woman.

The legendary Viking warriors Berserker and Ulfhednar were considered to be shapeshifters, changing into bears and wolves in combat. They were closely associated with the worship of the pagan gods and were outlawed when Scandinavia converted to Christianity. After that, anyone claiming or showing such behavior was deemed to be an outlaw. Outside the protection of the law and hunted down and killed. Modern historians deny that any such phenomenon ever actually existed. They tend to suggest that the behavior was the result of drug use and pagan ceremonies, though experiments have produced no drugs available in Scandinavia which would account for it.

In medieval romances, such as Bisclavret and Guillaume de Palerme, the werewolf takes on more innocent traits, appearing as the victim of evil magic and aiding knights-errant.

In fairy tales, such as Little Red Riding Hood, the figure of the werewolf is more ambiguous and subject to an allegorical or Freudian interpretation. These tales are the inspiration behind modern fiction such as The Company of Wolves by Angela Carter and the film Ginger Snaps which deal with female sexuality.

In other stories beginning with Wagner the Wehr-Wolf (1847) by George W. M. Reynolds, the classic theme of a man cursed to be transformed into a werewolf at the time of the full moon is reintroduced: representing the split personality and evil, bloodthirsty, dark side of humanity itself. This theme of lycanthropy as a disease or curse reached its standard treatment in the film 1941 The Wolf Man movie, which contained the now-famous rhyme:

This movie is often credited with originating several aspects of the legend which differ from traditional folklore such as the vulnerability of the werewolf to a silver bullet
.
The process of transmogrification is portrayed in such films and works of literature to be painful. The resulting wolf is typically cunning but merciless and prone to killing and eating people without compunction regardless of the moral character of the person when human. The first feature film to use an anthropomorphic werewolf was Werewolf of London (1935) (not to be confused with the 1981 film of a similar title) establishing the canon that the werewolf always kills what he loves most. The main werewolf of this film was a dapper London scientist who retained some of his style and most of his human features after his transformation.

A very popular modern subgenre consists of stories that treat werewolves as a separate race or species (either science fictional or magical) or as persons using magic in order to deliberately transform into wolves at will. Such current-day werewolf fiction almost exclusively involves lycanthropy being either a hereditary condition or being transmitted like a disease caused by the bite or scratch of another werewolf.

The form a werewolf takes is not always an ordinary wolf, but is often anthropomorphic or may be otherwise larger and more powerful than an ordinary wolf. Sometimes the beast form of the werewolf will have some physical characteristics borrowed from an animal species other than the wolf, as can be seen in the boar-like werewolf of Wild Country and the cat-like werewolves of Underworld. While some werewolves are portrayed with tails, there are also others that don't have them. Many modern werewolves are also supposedly immune to damage caused by ordinary weapons, being vulnerable only to silver objects (usually a bullet or blade). This negative reaction to silver is sometimes so strong that the mere touch of the metal on a werewolf's skin will cause burns.

More recently, the portrayal of werewolves has taken a more sympathetic turn in some circles. With the rise of environmentalism and other back-to-nature ideals, the werewolf has come to be seen as a representation of humanity allied more closely with nature. A prime example of this outlook can be seen in the role-playing game Werewolf: The Apocalypse, in which players roleplay various werewolf characters who work on behalf of Gaia against the destructive supernatural spirit named Wyrm, who represents the forces of destructive industrialization and pollution. Author Whitley Strieber previously explored these themes in his novels The Wild (in which the werewolf is portrayed as a medium through which to bring human intelligence and spirit back into nature) and The Wolfen (in which werewolves are shown to act as predators of humanity, acting as a "natural" control on their population now that it has been removed from the traditional limits of nature). The heroic werewolf has also returned via the paranormal romance genre, where wolf-like characteristics such as loyalty are shown as positive traits in a prospective mate.

Despite the recent upsurge in the motif of heroic werewolves, unsympathetic portrayals of werewolves as monsters also continue to be common in popular culture. This is especially true in movies, which are only slowly incorporating trends in written fiction. There are very few werewolf movies outside the horror genre.

Jonah Jameson, who has a werewolf form called the Man-Wolf from a gemstone called the Godstone, Wolfsbane who is part of the X-Men, and Werewolf by Night in the Marvel comic books.

Werewolves have also been featured in comic books with two of them being Spider-Man's John Jameson, son of J. Jonah Jameson, who has a werewolf form called the Man-Wolf from a gemstone called the Godstone, Wolfsbane and Werewolf by Night in the Marvel's comic books.

Mazz (born 1984) is an amateur furry artist and a former administrator on Furtopia whose fursona is a raven.

Known for an extreme addiction to caffeine, she is rarely seen without some type of caffeinated beverage, usually coffee. Mazz's real life daughter is often portrayed by her mother as a grey tabby cat.

Fursona
Mazz is a mother of a tabby kitten named Angel.
Mazz has the typical Raven black markings. She has a white spot on her bum just above her tailfeathers. Mazz is about 200 pounds when standing at 5'2 and not at all skinny. One of her mutant traits is the green skin hidden under her black fur along with the ability to spit acid on command. The inside of her mouth is also green and she has a green scar on her neck which contains the neck monster.
Mazz still has shocking blue eyes.

Neck what?
Mazz has a green scar on her neck that resembles a smile and under some circumstances this scar can actually smile. Starting off as a joke the "neck monster" has taken a life of its own. This scar really does turn into a mouth, equipped with tongue, teeth and pretty much a mind of it's own not at all controlled by Mazz. When the neck monster "awakens" Mazz's eyes will completely white out and a rampage with lots of death is inevitable.

Persona
Mazz's creator is the single mother of a girl and still a lover of coffee, but not to the extreme as her fursona. She's a bird of prey rehabilitator and artist.
Mazz loves drawing and will usually post to places like Furaffinity or her preferred stomping grounds Weasyl.

Exile of Granaal is an Avian character from Joshua the Samurai's furry fiction novel The Shulamite. He was created long before The Shulamite was written and was one of the oldest characters in the series. Exile is an older man, and has spent most of his life as a Shaman for the avian peoples. He is a healer, a spiritual leader and a powerful warrior. Exile was trained in Kaparjutsu under the same Master as T'shelle. He carried a Kapar named Cloe, and a number of other weapons of Avian origin. Exile is also adept in an avian wrestling technique that makes his deadly even when completely unarmed. His father Teneb was an Avian warlord who fought many battles under Shalia of the Firebirds. Exile's father rebelled against the firebirds, tired of their policies and proclaimed that seven generations of his descendants would be given to God, hence Exile's service as a Shaman. Exile is a close friend of T'shelle, the two having fought many battles together and even may have shared a romance. In his many battles Exile has collected a number of visible scars including a chip on the left side of his beak, and a missing eye covered with a leather patch. He is a personable and friendly man, but is ultimately haunted by the loss of his wife and daughter during the Ketchitan war. When not in an official function, Exile owns a wheat farm in his home city, and hopes to soon retire there after finding a new Shaman for his people.
Kacey Miyagami, or just Kacey, is an artist from Oregon working in the furry genre. She holds a BFA from the University of Southern California with a minor in traditional animation. She is married to Ayukawataur. She was guest of honor at Furry Connection North 2011, and Artist Guest of Honor at Furlandia 2014. Her fursona is a snowserval (snow leopard-serval hybrid).

Biography
Born Kimberly C. Maltzman in Southern California in 1981, Kacey has dedicated the majority of her life to perfecting her art.

With influences from her mother, a former commercial artist, grandmother, a painter, sister, a multitalented artist, and traditional inspiration such as Disney and Pixar, she quickly picked up on techniques for drawing animals. Many of these influences and techniques are visibly apparent in her work throughout the majority of her art career, only recently being replaced by methods of her own.

She started in a public school, but when the riots of Los Angeles occurred in 1992, her family placed her in The Buckley School. There she remained until she graduated.

While at Buckley, she was exposed to Sailor Moon and other various anime. She also found she did not have many friends, or fit in with any crowds and turned to her art. It was then that she realized her desire to be an artist would make her perfect for being an animator. Though she continued her animal drawings, she started drawing more often, including people and expanding her awareness by taking classes in life drawing.

During this time she also came to know Miyagami Noriko through a mutual friend in Pennsylvania. Noriko quickly became a quasi-mentor figure to Kacey; later becoming her girlfriend and finally her wife on October 12, 2004.

After Buckley, Kacey attended University of Southern California where she obtained her degree, a Bachelor of Fine Arts as well as a minor in traditional animation. It was during this time Kacey set forth to finding a way to apply her skills and earn money for her daily necessities and a friend introduced her to Furbid where her unique style was able to garner good prices.

In order to keep up with competition she started investing in better materials, doing greater detail, and creating the quickest turnaround time possible without sacrificing quality. In no time she decided she wanted to raise the bar of what was acceptable for quality in the furry fandom. To do this she knew she would have to dedicate herself to art above everything else.

Her original intent was to graduate from college with her degree and moving into a career in traditional animation. However, there were extreme changes in her chosen field during her time in college which virtually left room only for computer animators.

Kacey was offered jobs in a number of studios, but in the intervening years, she decided she illustration where her attention to detail would be appreciated the most, was her true passion.

She continued as an artist doing exclusively traditional illustration until November 2007, when she purchased a Wacom Intuos3. Kacey felt, in order to expand her horizons, and skill, as an artist, she should be willing to experiment with more styles and media. Her use of the tablet is limited to sketch ideas for commissions and digital avatar icons. She continues working a minimum of forty hours a week, often more than sixty.

She dabbles with gouache.

Legal issues
In early 2002, Kacey was targeted by a fan for the distribution of her artwork without her authorization. This situation quickly escalated, spiraling out of control requiring the need for legal intervention.

The African wild dog (Lycaon pictus) is a tri-colored canine which lives in packs. It is also referred to as the African hunting dog, Cape hunting dog, painted dog, painted wolf, painted hunting dog, spotted dog, or ornate wolf. Their diet consists of meat and they also hunt large birds, especially ostriches. They can also hunt other animals, including antelopes, zebras, buffaloes and warthog and catch them by chasing them to exhaustion. Other predators, such as lions and hyenas, sometimes steal the prey that the wild dogs catch and can also kill them. African wild dogs have a unique blotchy coat pattern, have big round ears, and are also the only canid species to lack dewclaws.

The African wild dog is a fairly popular species on multiplayer worlds based on The Lion King, perhaps in part due to the species's striking and highly individual appearance.

2601:18D:4900:4000:897E:87F7:A473:D9B9: /* Overview */

The jackal is a group of canids of the genus Canis, closely related to the wolf, African wolf and the domestic dog.

Overview
The golden jackal is common in India, Europe, and the Middle East, while the black-backed jackal and side-striped jackal are only native to Africa.

The Ethiopian wolf, a highly endangered species of canine, was formerly called a jackal, but a recent genetic study suggests that it is more closely related to gray wolves and coyotes. The black-backed jackal and the side-striped jackal had previously been considered members of the genus Canis, and in 2017, a taxonomic review recommended that these two species be recognized as the genus Lupulella.

Jackal in mainstream culture/religion
In classic literature, the jackal is generally portrayed as a cowardly lackey or conspirator, likely owing to their natural opportunism and scavenging behavior.

Jackal and furry
The appeal of the jackal among some furry fans is because the Egyptian god Anubis was typically portrayed with the head of a jackal. Anubis is a very popular subject of furry artwork.
