An Equitaur is a form of creature and species of taur similar to a classical Centaur: It has a lower body that is wholly equine and a humanoid upper body where the equine's neck and head would normally appear. An Equitaur differs from a classical Centaur by having an equine head.

Although the upper torso is of human shape, it is generally depicted as having the same fur and patternation as the equine portion of the body, in contrast to a classical Centaur with which the torso is furless. The mane may also run down the upper back. Also, because of their appearance, equitaurs are often depicted as more bestial than Centaurs in art in literature. In such works, equitaur stallions are normally shown to be strong and noble, and equitaur mares are often shown as coy, flirty but compassionate.

An Equitaur can produce both human and equine vocalisations (speech, and neighs/whinnys). They may possibly be considered slightly closer to a pure equine than Centaurs are.

Equitaurs are also referred to as "horsetaurs," or in the Chakat universe as "quanges," a term coined by the artist Roy D. Pounds II.

In the episode "Quest for the Potion of Power" of the Nintendo-themed cartoon series Captain N: The Game Master, Captain N and his companions join forces with Link from The Legend of Zelda series and encounters the boss character Horsehead, who is depicted in the episode as a brown equitaur with a yellow Mohawk and goatee. In the game Zelda II: The Adventure of Link, this character is normally depicted as just an anthropomorphic horse. He attacks the group after Link steals a jewel from his horde, and is defeated by Captain N.

In the anime series Ultimate Muscle, the chess-themed wrestling character Checkmate is capable of transforming into a horse-headed centaur.

Equitaurs, referred to as "quanges," appear frequently in the Chakat universe, usually serving in the capacity of transport drivers, mechanics or other skilled laborers. One notable equitaur in the series is Carol, who owns and runs her own diner named The Gulp 'N' Gallop that specializes in serving equitaur clientele. She is joined by fellow equitaur Joe, who is the restaurant's head chef.
Felitaurs are one of the most common taur variants within the furry fandom. While the most commonly found species in the fandom are chakats, others exist too, such as wemics, chakasas and tigertaurs.

Felitaurs have existed as far back as Assyrian culture. Artwork during the Middle Assyrian period depicts a type of leonid felitaur, known as an urmahlullu, a creature that protected washrooms from evil demons. . Another example of felitaurs is the sagittary - a half man, half lion figure similar to those used to depict the star sign Sagittarius, often depicted with the man half with a drawn bow.

In today's fandom, felitaurs are normally depicted as having the lower body of any of the big cats, a humanoid torso, and anthro-feline faces. They have a fur coat covering their entire body excepting the pads of the hands and paws.

P'Tar the Catarian, a character from Extinctioners is a cougar felitaur.
A Chakasa is a very chakat-like taur creature; their most evident external difference is the presence of a pair of insect-like antennae on the head. The term chakasa means savage (wild) chakat.

Chakasas live in an universe fully separated from the chakat universe, so officially they can't meet. The chakasa universe is hard-SF; this means it doesn't allow faster than light travel; Star Trek-like teleporters or force-fields; and Chakat ESP talents, mind-swaps, etc. But in the chakasa universe there are some nano-technology and submicro-robotics; AIs intelligent as people; many kind of robots; and advanced biotech such as common use of artificial bacteria, plants and biobots.

There are thousands of small differences between chakats and chakasas, but they share lot of things, including the general body shape, the hermaphrodite nature, and large parts of their nature and sociology.

Chakasas were created with genetic engineering in the 2210-2260 years (mostly by Open Source biohakers with the help of an institute) as first colonizers and terraformers. A chakasa is a sensory creature: they have many refined senses. Their body design tries to improve the chakat design or to be more scientifically-based, but in truth they are often just a little different from chakats.

The history of chakasas is younger than the chakat one. At the moment most of them (about 5000 individuals) are living free on a wild and green planet called Sava, and a few other chakasas are living free on Earth.

Chakas are the less common bipedal chakasas, their mind and most of their body design solutions are the same. All chakas live in the solar system.
