Klaus Doberman is a furry artist from the United Kingdom whose artwork is primarily non-morphic and erotic. His personal fursona is a Doberman Pinscher. He is best known for his furotic fan art of many movies and series, including:

* 101 Dalmatians
* All Dogs Go to Heaven
* Balto
* Bambi
* Brother Bear
* Lady and the Tramp
* Oliver & Company (especially the Doberman Pinscher characters Roscoe and DeSoto)
* Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron
* The Fox and the Hound

Klaus reported having received a threatening cease and desist-type letter from the corporation owning Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron, and he quickly pulled all of his fan art furotica offline, posted several messages requesting it never be reposted nor redistributed anywhere, and gradually replaced them with more original and generic pieces, and a few lightly disguised fan art pieces.

Klaus described himself to Chibiabos as having been inspired by TOR and aspiring to match TOR's mastery for non-morphic furry art, then retire from making furry art.

As of 2023, he is now taking a break from the fandom, possibly indefinitely.

Online art and disputed reappearances
Klaus announced in 2004 that he was moving that year to Dubai for a job, and would return after an unspecified amount of time. As part of the move, expressing concern over stringent anti-pornography laws in the United Arab Emirates, he requested all of his artwork (including his original and non-adult pieces) be taken offline. This included the archives of several furotic Yahoo! groups (especially those featuring his works based on characters from mainstream animated films) and Yiffstar.

Since that time, despite Klaus' posted and private requests prior to his disappearance, various furs have re-posted much of his art, especially the fan art pieces Klaus had pulled offline following the Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron cease and desist notice on Yahoo! groups, fchan and other forums. A few brief re-surfacings purporting to be Klaus Dobermann have been made that other furs, claiming to be still in contact with Klaus, have accused as being unauthorized impersonations. Most of these brief, disputed reappearances used the klausdoberman Yahoo! account, which after the first "reappearance" was believed by some to have been hacked. This has not been confirmed, but despite word that Klaus has been working on new artwork while in the UAE (drawn, just not scanned in nor uploaded anywhere), none of the artwork uploaded to various Yahoo! groups under the klausdoberman Yahoo! account has been new (every piece had already been online in various archives prior to Klaus' move to Dubai), and much of it was fan art Klaus had originally pulled offline after the legal threat from the makers of Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron.

A notable "reappearance" happened on Jul 15, 2006, when a person claiming to be Klaus posted a message on a yahoo group in German (I don't think Klaus speaks or writes in German) and claimed to be from East Germany and that the East German government had very strict internet laws. He was obviously fake seeing as East Germany ceased to exist in 1990, so East Germany and the "modern" internet never existed at the same time.

September — October 2006 return
In a Yahoo! group recreated after Klaus' original group (that was deleted and recreated seemingly by an impostor), AnimalCartoons, a member purporting to be Klaus Dobermann posted a message with the subject line of "ALL NEW NEVER SEEN BEFORE KLAUS ART!" on 24 September 2006, linking to a new group at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Klausart/

The post contained a similar claim to a previous post claiming to be the "real Klaus" with new art but instead was just a re-upload of old Klaus art. This new group differs in that it does, indeed, have genuine new art that has not been seen before. While the coloring in some is primitive, the art is described as unfinished sketches at this point, and the line art appears reminiscent of Klaus' talent, style, and subject preferences.

Given there does appear to be new original art in Klaus' style, this reappearance seems to be genuine.

Shortly after the new group was opened with more than two dozen uploads in the first two days, an individual calling themselves "Richard Paine" posted to the group providing a link to an older archive of Klaus' art that included Klaus' erotic fan art of copyrighted characters. The Klaus Doberman who opened the group and uploaded the new, original art responded (after several Yahoo! group users pointed out the archive violated Klaus' requests prior to his original withdrawal from the Internet) that the archive, stamped with Klaus' e-mail and stamp dated 09/22/2005 for the archive (well within Klaus' apparent 2004-to-2006 disappearance), was fraudulently attributed to him. Included in the archive of Klaus' old art is fan art long forbidden by Klaus due to "cease and desist" legal threats made to Klaus by the intellectual property holders of the movies Klaus drew characters from, and in his debunking of the archive against having been uploaded by himself, Klaus re-iterated banishment of fan art he had drawn from being reposted anywhere.

No, this gallery has got nothing to do with me. I have been away since
September 2004, these were uploaded seemingly just shy of a year later
and I've not been back at any point until now and had access to
an uncensored Internet. As such, I could never have set this gallery up.

Also, I would certainly never have included any of the art I did
featuring that certain horse. I might draw him for myself, but after
my run-in, I'm never going to put them online.

I guess it was naive in many ways for me to assume people would not
stick my art in all sorts of places I wouldn't want it to be, but with
this newer stuff, I would hope people might think before doing so.
Then again, this is the Internet and there are som right fuck-ups out
there.

By the way, should anyone fancy colouring these new pics, please feel
free. I have to scan a few more pieces.

Pegasus is a term used to describe any winged horse, but is used most often to describe the mythological beast of the same name, most famous in Greek mythology. Pegasus was the offspring of the god Poseidon and the Gorgon Medusa. According to most Classical legends, he either burst forth from the neck of Medusa when Perseus beheaded her, or sprang from her blood when it fell into the water of the sea. Although his name is a proper noun and technically refers to the one and only original, Pegasus has come to be used as a generic for any winged horse.

The goddess Athena is credited for taming Pegasus and presenting him to the Muses, with whose temples and worship he is often associated. He was later ridden by Bellerophon in a number of quests and adventures, culminating in an attempt to fly to the peak of Mount Olympus. Zeus was angered by the hubris of this quest, and sent a gadfly to sting Pegasus and cause him to buck his rider off. Falling back to earth, Bellerophon was forever separated from his beloved mount, and spent the rest of his days wandering the earth in search of Pegasus. Because his father was a god, Pegasus has the status of demigod, and ultimately was transformed into a constellation located in the sky between his first rider, Perseus, and Andromeda, whom he helped to rescue.

Pegasus himself took a mate, Euippe, and begot at least two offspring: Celeris, a handsome white stallion, and Melanippe, a obsidian black mare. Presumably, all flying horses are descended from the lineage of Pegasus.

Some have pointed out that, more properly, winged horses should be called hippopteroi, or simply flying horses. Winged horses are a symbol of both strength and freedom, and figure large in fantasy worlds and dreams, so it is no wonder that they are encountered now and then as role-playing characters or fursonas.

In art, it is worthy of note that while an actual flying horse might be physically possible, it would require considerably more wingspan than is usually depicted. Most likely such a creature would have the lighter, hollow bones typical of avians, and the slight build of an Arabian or similar light breed. While Pegasus and his get have been frequently depicted in art through the centuries, the wings are rarely shown in suitable proportion.

A horn is a pointed projection of skin on the head of various animals consisting of a covering of keratin and other proteins surrounding a core of living bone.

In the wild, horns are most commonly found on ungulates. They are mostly used by males to compete with other males; females often lack horns for this reason.

Horns are commonly made of keratin, a hard natural substance from which fur and claws are also made. Most animals, grow continuously through an animal's life, sometimes in a continuous curve or curl, and are not shed. They also commonly occur in pairs.

Other animals, such as the rhinoceros, possess one or two horns (depending on the species) on the upper surface of the snout. However, these horns are not true horns and lack a bony core so they can grow back if cut.

Bony horns are rare or unknown in the wild, but are commonly featured on dragons, which may have one or more pairs.

The ear-tufts of owls are sometimes called horns, but these are merely clumps of feathers that happen to be located on the top of the head.

In fursuits, horns are often made out of plastic.

Styles of horns
* Straight: a simple, uncurved spike, seen in the unicorn.
* Curved: a horn with a small curvature in one direction. Seen in gazelles and goats.
* Curled or Spiral: horns with strong curvature, such that they circle in a helix. Seen in sheep, in which the horns curl round at the sides of the head to provide a hard, curved area to butt with; also in impala, which grow the horns upward and outward in a long spiral.

Hornlike structures
* Antlers - A pair of bony, branching growths on the heads of deer. They are structurally dissimilar to horns, but their function is the same. Unlike horns, they are shed every year and regrown completely. The pronghorn is unique in that it has horns, but sheds the horny sheath each year, leaving a bony prong.
* Tusks - Elongated teeth which resemble horns. The most well-known animal with tusks is the elephant, but it occurs in other animals, including pigs, walruses, some deer, and the narwhal.

The Dingo (plural: dingoes or dingos) is a canine carnivore, although they can be scavengers at times. They are actually not native to Australia and are thought to have come from Southeast Asia with sailors and from modern-day Israel even further back where bones quite similar to theirs were found. Scientists differ, however, on whether they are their own species, or a subspecies of Canis lupus (like normal dog breeds). When raised from birth in domesticity, they are described as highly sensitive and gentle pets, but in recent years, they have been hunted and poisoned recently in Australia due to attacks on humans and livestock.

Dingoes do not generally form packs; they more often travel in pairs or small family groups. However, they are capable of forming larger packs to hunt cooperatively.

Swandog (real name Xenia Eliassen, born 1972) is a fantasy and furry artist living near Oslo, Norway. Born and raised a Texan, she has been a lifelong furry, otherkin, and therian, having encountered them upon joining the furry fandom in 2001. She is married to Sayh and is a mother to two sons and two cats.

Fandom involvelment
Like her husband, Swandog is a furry lifestyler and is relatively active in the fandom, but being rather shy, she sticks to small groups of online and local friends. She is also a fursuiter, having commissioned a Swandog head from ScribbleFox of One Fur All, and in 2008, she commissioned a full Lunacorn fursuit from Beetlecat Originals.

She occasionally attends Anthrocon. Closer to home, she hosts furmeets like CabinCon, and was involved with attempts to setup a local convention, ScandinAviary.

Fursona
Swandog's personal furry/fursona since the late 1980's has been a gryphon; it originally was a bald eagle/wolf mix, which she hinted at in her "self portrait", drawn in 1988. This gradually evolved into "Swandog", the swan/saluki gryphon, which she chose due to her passion for swans and salukis (her totem animals), and also because being a predator (a bird of prey) never quite suited her, in spite of her gryphon obsession.

In addition to gryphons, Swandog has always shared a deep bond with deer-like unicorns, and to a lesser extent, luna moths, which she kept relatively secret for years. In 2005, she published a mandala reflecting these aspects, and in mid-2008 she unveiled her new "Lunacorn" otherkin fursona - a hybrid, deer-based, unicorn/luna moth, which is an entirely separate form yet is complimentary to her Swandog fursona.

Mahxissa was a black Andalusian mare with a red sheen who worshipped the evil one-eyed god Balor on HavenMUSH. She was the archnemesis to and cousin (unbeknownst to both her and him) of Caspian.

Mahxissa was a deadly and accomplished warrior by herself, but she was allied with the Fomorians and frequently led them into battle and other missions. She also employed subterfuge and seduction to accomplish her mission. Turning an adversary to her side, to serve Balor, she saw as a greater goal than simply killing them.

She did not view herself as evil; she genuinely believed in Balor as a "good god." She never came to realize, in her time on Haven MUSH, that she was Caspian's cousin and shared the same unicorn blood he did.

The character was abandoned due to conflicts with a new rule put in place on the MUSH.

Delphine (also known as Dofain on FurryMUCK, Furnet and most Instant Messengers) is an artist who lives in France.

Fursona
Dofain started as a horse/dolphin hybrid. This first character was nicknamed Hossphin by Keepiru. She played either a horse or a dolphin depending on her mood.

Then she found stories about unicorns and found she was more linked to them and changed her fursona accordingly, more related to her therian side. She added dragon wings to her character.

As she discovered Cetafurs, she decided that a cetacean-related character would be interesting and so created her Orcorn self. It's a unicorn-orca hybrid, which she gave the latin species name of Orcinus Monoceros. This character is very much similar in actions and opinions as her unicorn character and is often considered by her as the same.

First life
Delphine has been in the fandom since 2000. She discovered it via Bleis' website.<br>

Delphine has written many translations especially for horse behaviour and horse studies but also for the fandom. She was asked by Tanamin Windgate to translate Unicornography, a mature webcomic about unicorns and astral guardian, into French, though this ended when the webcomic stopped updating.fact

She also made the French subtitles for Kaze: Ghost Warrior.fact

She is has been working in horse shows and as a street performer (fire breather) as well as with other wild animals, her other job being truck driving.<br>

She is an avid wildlife photographer and especially macrophotography of insects.<br>

The name Delphine is from her real first name, she first used it for her DevianArt account and has since kept it for everything art-related and for her orcorn character.

Cassandra Gunn

Cassandra Gunn is creator of the character Ultraviolet (a name she also goes by as an artist alias) and the Ukimori species. She is probably best known for her personal character and her m/m and crossdressing, gender-bending, or androgynous art.

Cassandra currently lives in London, England and has spent most of her working life in freelance illustration and tattoo design. She has been drawing anthropomorphic characters since she can remember, but first began to make her way into the online world of furry in late 2000. Before then most of her art was based on dark or Gothic fairy tales.

As of January 2008, Cassandra dedicates her time to creating a PC-based RPG as well as doing work for The Dark Gemini Project.

Fandom involvement
She was a guest of honour at RBW 2007.

She is also creating a PC-based RPG as well as doing work for The Dark Gemini Project.

Fursona
Ultraviolet is a character created by Cassandra Gunn back in 1998, and is also the artist's alias.
Originally the character was a cat (Russian Blue), with fuchsia pink hair and a black tail, accompanied by a crystal broom and unicorn-horned raven. In 2000 Ultraviolet was redesigned. Sorceress and sex-vamp, she became a Ukimori, a heraldic unicorn and flying fox (bat) hybrid. Cassandra chose the combination because she wanted UV to be something of a contradiction, to mix something that is often misunderstood and associated with darkness, with something thought to be a representation of purity and associated with light.

Current character details
Ultraviolet is characterized as having luminous yellow-green eyes and silvery-grey fur. Her facial characteristics are very much like that of a flying-fox. Her ears are black and fuchsia on the inside and she has two piercings in each ear, a lip spike (labret piercing) and her nose is pink. Her strongest characteristics are her long spiraling, iridescent unicorn horn, massive black wings (with fuchsia flesh on the inside membrane), cloven hooves with black fur tufts around them, and black tail ending in a long purple tuft. Her hands are best describes as claws, though they are actually hooves, starting at the last joint. There is noticeable webbing between her fingers.

Character tastes and personality
She's most often associated with gothic, rave, and cyber culture. Primarily she wears black and white stripy tights, goggles, corsets, and long faux fur coats.

Her personality is very bright, flirty, dominant and playful. Some think she's a bit of a saucy vixen. She would grin agreeably.

She is not at all shy about getting what she wants and won't let anything get in her way and can be a bit of a diva at times. But at the end of the day she is true to those she loves and would fiercely protect them. She also feels adamantly in tune with nature and uses her innate magical abilities mostly for helping heal, care for, and protect Shi'Imora.

She also adamantly loves fruit, honey and has a desperate weak spot for pretty-boys.

Character background and story
Created by the human Dr. Hira, Ultraviolet was the first successful bat and heraldic unicorn hybrid. Her real given name was Asha Hira, named after the good doctor, but it was her project name, Ultraviolet, that stuck (called so, because the doctor found through various experiments that Asha had UV reactive eyes and markings on her horn, fur, in her ears and wing membrane).

Living on the planet of Shi'Imora, and growing up in the Solarian elf village Mikobi-Rhin, it was there with the elves that she grew and learned along side her childhood friend, Rikaru. Through the Solarians, she learned about magic, love and the world around her. She grew up to witness the war against man, when much of Shi' Imora and its denizens rose up against the shallow, destructive nature of humanity and destroyed them. Afterwards she took to living primarily in solitude, away from the place where her creator was murdered, in a ruined human city cathedral.

More images of the character can be found at various websites, such as VCL, Fur Affinity, Yerf and others.

Shi'Imora
The world created by Cassandra Gunn, encompassing all her stories, creatures, and ideas.

Shi' Imora exists in our own solar system on another dimension and is, in fact, the size of Jupiter. This 'planet' is actually a thinking and feeling being who activley creates and destroys life on and within her.

'She' is referred to as a female, as when she communicates with those who live on Shi'Imora, the voice they hear is feminine. Most Shi'Imoran's of any spiritual nature have some form of understanding of her and how to communicate with her. Though she often keeps this very limited. She even has a pulse that can be felt and heard if the denizens take a moment to listen.

Her nature is impartial and though she is intelligent and feeds off emotions, she cannot express emotion.

Ukimori
The Ukimori are a creature species created by Cassandra Gunn for her currently unreleased Hidden Guardian short stories. There were only six Ukimori created, Ultraviolet having been the first made and the only female.

Appearance
Ukimori are a 'man-made' genetic hybrid inhabiting the world of Shi'Imora. They are a cross between any species of bat, particularly fruit eaters, and heraldic unicorn. They display the head of the bat they share genes with, large ears, and the unicorn's horn spiraling out from the center their forehead. The wings are large, spreading out from their back seperately from their arms, though there is a membrane that connects between the arm of the wing and the back of the arms themselves. They have large sturdy shoulder-blades and an elongated rib-cage to support the wing appendages. The torso, arms, hands and upper legs, are morphic and alike to that of a human, but their proportions are slightly elongated and covered in generally short, soft fur. They have long digitigrade or unguligrade legs with cloven hooves, similar to that of an elk. The tail is much like a lion's, except that the fur at the end is long and hair-like. They often have a trail of this hair on both the top or underside of the tail.

Ukimori markings and coloration vary a lot depending on the genes of the bat. Generally the inner-ear color and wing membrane match in color, while varying from the actual fur color.

Aside from the nomal distinctions between gender found in most mammals, there are a few other differences.
Females tend to have thin fur and only a small line of longer fluff going down their backs and ending midway down. Males have slightly longer fur than females and a fluffy mane around their necks which also goes down the back to the base of the tail. A female's horn is longer than males, while males generally have larger canines which are still noticeable even when the mouth is closed. The base of the male's tail is thicker and almost reptile-like, in comparison to that of a female.

Habitat and diet
Ukimori prefer to build a 'cove' or home for themselves in temperate or tropical climates - anywhere away from vast cities and covered with dense forests. Though they are fairly shy, solitary creatures, they can be found
in cities when they feel the need to socialize.

The Ukimori diet is as varied as the bat species they were created from. Most, like Ultraviolet, perfer a diet of fruit, vegetables, nectars, honey, and even some grain and fish. There is one who hunts both the small insects and the giant insects of the plains, while another is a blood feeder.

Lifespan and reproduction
Having been a man-made hybrid created as an experiment in immortality, Ukimori are sterile and incapable of producing any offspring. The growing and aging process seems to end after 25 to 30 years and thereafter are no physical changes. However, the Ukimori are not truly immortal. The seem to live an ongoing lifespan, and though they have very strong immune systems, can succumb to severe illness or even unnatural death.

Being unable to have offspring, the Ukimori have no mating season. They simply mate for pleasure, not only with each other but often outside their species with other sentient beings. They have also been known to 'hunt' for sexual prey or seduce people only to provide that 'prey' to another Ukimori as a gift: unusual practices for most Shi'Imoran creatures. The Ukimori tend to be very vocal during actual mating. It is not uncommon for them to draw blood from biting and clawing during the throes of passion.

My Little Pony is a commercial brand by Hasbro.

My Little Pony was first produced from 1982 to 1992. They were relaunched with a different look in 1997, 2003 (these ponies are distinctly modern but retain the style of the original eighties line), and 2010, as My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.

The original My Little Pony toys included unicorn and Pegasus ponies as well as the standard "earth ponies", along with a huge range of colors, symbols, and body-types. There were also larger, Clydesdale-style male ponies ("Big Brothers" in North America, "Mountain Boys" in Europe). The entirely-female modern line includes Pegasus ponies and, as of 2006, two unicorns.

My Little Pony original characters of note include:
* CherryFiller
* Sweet Peep

My Little Pony and furry
My Little Pony was already fairly popular among some members of the furry fandom prior to surge in popularity that resulted from the "Friendship Is Magic" series. Among the artists in this category are Frisket, HavocFox, Mayra Boyle, Tserisa, Whippetluv, and Doug Winger. Others make custom sculptures.

My Little Pony MUSH ran from 2004 (with a long stretch of downtime) to 2005, and had a significant furry presence among its players.

The brony fandom and furry
In regard to the 2010 version (My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic) the creators of the show have reciprocated the feelings of the brony fandom, referencing bronies and pegasisters in the Equestria Girls promo and even marketing directly to the adult demographic. Probably the most significant call out came in the canonisation of the character Derpy, whose name and personality was collectively created by the fandom. Other fan names have become canon outside of the TV show such as the name Lyra being adopted in the toy line. Derpy - along with other fan favourites Doctor Whooves, Octavia, Carrot Top, Berry Punch, Colgate, Vinyl Scratch/DJ Pon-3, Lyra and Bon-Bon - appeared on the poster distributed at Comic Con 2011.

The brony fandom has a significant crossover with the furry fandom. According to the 2014 State of the Herd Report, 21% of bronies consider themselves furries as well. Many furry artists have branched into pony art, and several of the brony fandom's celebrities are or have been involved in the furry fandom in the past.

Many things familiar to furries have equivalents in the brony fandom:

* An extremely active art scene - one of the best-known and most active image boards is Derpibooru.
* Costuming - ranging from simple earbands and tails to full My Little Pony-style fursuits.
* Meetups - similar to furmeets, and varying from casual get-togethers to gatherings of hundreds of people.
* Conventions - many take place every year, all over the world.
* Avatars - like fursonas, many bronies have a ponysona to represent them in the fandom.
* Vocabulary - like the furspeech of the furry fandom (or indeed, most fandoms) a vocabulary of fandom-specific words exists. Some of the terms are taken directly from the show, such as "anypony" (anybody), or "fillies and gentlecolts" (ladies and gentlemen). Others derive from memes (for example: 'plot' to mean a pony's backside).
* An adult scene. Sexuality is explored in the brony fandom as freely as in the furry fandom, and some aspects of the vocabulary reflect this: most notably, "clop" being the brony equivalent of yiff, which is also used as a euphemism for adult material. .
* Trolls - sometimes nicknamed 'parasprites' in the brony fandom.
* A writing community, mostly organised on Fimfiction, with a few also using Fanfiction.net.
* Roleplay - this generally takes place on forums and IRC.
* News sites - Equestria Daily is the biggest and most active.

There are also a few differences between the scenes:

* A heavier emphasis on music. Although there are a number of furry musicians, the brony fandom's musical output is comparatively more popular among members of the fandom, and music is regarded as important as visual art by most. There are a large number of brony musicians who create new music and remixes regularly, often releasing entire albums. The most popular brony song as of 2014 is The Living Tombstone's Discord remix, which has more than ten million views on YouTube.
* Cosplay (that is, specifically costuming as canon characters) is more widespread, as the show contains a very large number of characters.
* Younger demographic - the brony fandom's age demographic is skewed well toward youth, with a large proportion in their teens or even younger. As a result, there are efforts to keep the fandom child-friendly and to segregate the adult and non-adult sides. Many of the major conventions are family-friendly, and encourage children and parents.

In 2014, Lee Tockar, a voice actor on the show, was a Guest of Honor at Anthrocon 2014.

My Little Pony is a commercial brand by Hasbro .

My Little Ponies were first produced from 1982 to 1992. They were relaunched with a different look in 1997, 2003 (these ponies are distinctly modern but retain the style of the original eighties line), and 2010, as My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.

The original My Little Ponies included unicorn and Pegasus ponies as well as the standard "earth ponies", along with a huge range of colors, symbols, and body-types. There were also larger, Clydesdale-style male ponies ("Big Brothers" in North America, "Mountain Boys" in Europe). The entirely-female modern line includes Pegasus ponies and, as of 2006, two unicorns.

My Little Pony original characters of note include:
* CherryFiller
* Sweet Peep

My Little Pony and furry
My Little Ponies were already fairly popular among some members of the furry fandom prior to surge in popularity that resulted from the "Friendship Is Magic" series.

Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH

2601:18D:4700:7640:4850:D926:7E8D:C974: /* Additional books */

context
Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH is a novel by American writer Robert C. O’Brien (pseudonym of Robert Conly), and the first book of the Rats of NIMH series, published by Atheneum Books in April 1971.

Plot
The story revolves around that of a widowed mouse named Mrs. Frisby and her interactions with brilliant rats who escaped from experiments by the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), saving her son Timothy from pneumonia and rescuing her children and home from destruction by a farmer's plow. The book involves the themes of friendship and courage and also alludes to the immorality of experimentation done on non-human animals.

Additional books
The other two books of the Rats of NIMH were Racso and the Rats of NIMH and R-T, Margaret, and the Rats of NIMH, written by O'Brien's daughter Jane Leslie Conly after his death.

Film
The novel was filmed as an animated feature, The Secret of NIMH, by Don Bluth in July 1982. Mrs. Frisby was renamed Mrs. Brisby because of a threatened lawsuit for copyright and trademark violation by the American toy company Wham-O company, manufacturers of the Frisbee toy.

The movie was criticized for this and other plot changes, especially the change of "the secret" from a science-fictional cause to magic and wizardry. A 1998 direct-to-video sequel then followed it, The Secret of NIMH 2: Timmy to the Rescue without the involvement of director Don Bluth.

Scalie

Scalies (singular: scaly/scalie) is a furspeech term used to describe both anthropomorphic creatures of the reptile and amphibian variety, and furries that identify themselves as such or prefer the concept of such beings over furred characters. It is also a self-moniker for the users of alt.fan.dragons, a Usenet discussion group for all things draconid.cn

Origin
The term scaly existed before its usage as a furspeech term, being used to describe animals or other entities with scales. It is made from the adjective-making suffix -y, which can give a subject the quality of a root, and the root scale. The usage of scalie as a term for anthropomorphic reptiles and their fans started sometime in or before the year 1997, as Usenet posts from the year 1997 Her fursona is a snowserval (snow leopard-serval hybrid).

Biography
Born Kimberly C. Maltzman in Southern California in 1981, Kacey has dedicated the majority of her life to perfecting her art.

With influences from her mother, a former commercial artist, grandmother, a painter, sister, a multitalented artist, and traditional inspiration such as Disney and Pixar, she quickly picked up on techniques for drawing animals. Many of these influences and techniques are visibly apparent in her work throughout the majority of her art career, only recently being replaced by methods of her own.

She started in a public school, but when the riots of Los Angeles occurred in 1992, her family placed her in The Buckley School. There she remained until she graduated.

While at Buckley, she was exposed to Sailor Moon and other various anime. She also found she did not have many friends, or fit in with any crowds and turned to her art. It was then that she realized her desire to be an artist would make her perfect for being an animator. Though she continued her animal drawings, she started drawing more often, including people and expanding her awareness by taking classes in life drawing.

During this time she also came to know Miyagami Noriko through a mutual friend in Pennsylvania. Noriko quickly became a quasi-mentor figure to Kacey; later becoming her girlfriend and finally her wife on October 12, 2004.

After Buckley, Kacey attended University of Southern California where she obtained her degree, a Bachelor of Fine Arts as well as a minor in traditional animation. It was during this time Kacey set forth to finding a way to apply her skills and earn money for her daily necessities and a friend introduced her to Furbid where her unique style was able to garner good prices.

In order to keep up with competition she started investing in better materials, doing greater detail, and creating the quickest turnaround time possible without sacrificing quality. In no time she decided she wanted to raise the bar of what was acceptable for quality in the furry fandom. To do this she knew she would have to dedicate herself to art above everything else.

Her original intent was to graduate from college with her degree and moving into a career in traditional animation. However, there were extreme changes in her chosen field during her time in college which virtually left room only for computer animators.

Kacey was offered jobs in a number of studios, but in the intervening years, she decided she illustration where her attention to detail would be appreciated the most, was her true passion.

She continued as an artist doing exclusively traditional illustration until November 2007, when she purchased a Wacom Intuos3. Kacey felt, in order to expand her horizons, and skill, as an artist, she should be willing to experiment with more styles and media. Her use of the tablet is limited to sketch ideas for commissions and digital avatar icons. She continues working a minimum of forty hours a week, often more than sixty.

She would like to learn to work with gouache.

Legal issues
In early 2002, Kacey was targeted by a fan for distribution of her artwork without her authorization. This situation quickly escalated, spiraling out of control requiring the need for legal intervention.

Bambi (movie)

2023-06-18T17:36:08Z

2601:18D:4700:7640:4850:D926:7E8D:C974: /* Trivia */

Bambi is an animated film released in 1942 by the Walt Disney Company based loosely on the 1923 novel of the same name by Felix Salten.

Bambi was the first film by Disney to feature an all-animal cast of characters presented in a realistic style, as opposed to earlier highly simplified and stylized anthropomorphic characters such as Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck. In fact, the level of realism achieved in the artwork for this film is one factor which later brought some criticism upon it. The animal characters in Bambi are non-morphic, but most of them speak English amongst themselves and occasionally display certain humanlike mannerisms. The hunting dogs, however, do not.

The characters
*Bambi, the "young prince" of the forest, a white-tailed deer. He is portrayed as a fawn in the first part of the story and a full-grown adolescent buck in the last part.
*Thumper, a young rabbit, who is so called because of a compulsive tendency to thump whatever he stands on with his hind foot when he is the least bit excited. He also has sisters.
*Miss Bunny, a female rabbit and Thumper's wife.
*Flower, a young skunk, who accepted the name after being confused by the young Bambi with the flowers in which the skunk was hiding.
*Petunia, a female skunk and Flower's wife.
*Faline, also a deer, and about the same age as Bambi. As with the later Simba and Nala of The Lion King, Faline is the friend who becomes Bambi's true love.
*Bambi's mother and father are never named, though his father is referred to as "the Great Prince of the Forest."
*Ronno, a deer older than Bambi who is his rival and wants Faline to be his mate.
*Friend Owl likewise is not named beyond that most basic identification.
*Man is the unseen human antagonist of the story, but only exists as a faceless force outside the community of forest creatures. He is a hunter who uses a gun and a pack of hunting dogs to hunt the forest animals.
*Hunting Dogs are a pack of hunting dogs belonging to Man that he uses to hunt down the forest animals. Unlike most of the other animals, they do not speak.

Commentary
Since Disney's packaging of the story for the movie was apparently intended for the entertainment of younger viewers, there is no coverage on the subject of predation among animal species. The focus of the story on the plight of the deer has been widely vilified as an attempt to garner undue pity for the animals, as well as to ascribe human emotions to the characters. Whether or not it was the intent of Disney or its writers to misinform the public about the lives of animals, such charges have been repeatedly laid, in various forms, over the ensuing decades. In fairness, the Disney company did release a number of live-action films in the 1950s and '60s depicting animal behavior in a realistic or documentary fashion, as well as two documentaries within the last decade.

Trivia
*Preston Blair, one of the character animators in the employ of Disney for Bambi, subsequently worked for Tex Avery at Metro-Goldwyn-Meyer and later wrote several popular books on how to draw cartoon characters for animation.
*The song "Loverly Spring" from the motion picture Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events bears a striking resemblance to the song "Let's Sing a Gay Little Spring Song" from the Bambi soundtrack, which begins with the lyrics "Tra, la, la, la-de-day, twit-twi-da-dee."
*Salten wrote a sequel novel in 1939 called Bambi's Children.
*A direct-to-video midquel, Bambi II, was released on February 7, 2006. It focuses on Bambi being looked after by the Great Prince after his mother is killed by Man.
*After the premiere of the film, there were fire prevention posters featuring the characters before the creation of Smokey Bear.
