An Equitaur is a form of creature and species of taur similar to a classical Centaur: It has a lower body that is wholly equine and a humanoid upper body where the equine's neck and head would normally appear. An Equitaur differs from a classical Centaur by having an equine head.

Although the upper torso is of human shape, it is generally depicted as having the same fur and patternation as the equine portion of the body, in contrast to a classical Centaur with which the torso is furless. The mane may also run down the upper back. Also, because of their appearance, equitaurs are often depicted as more bestial than Centaurs in art and literature. In such works, equitaur stallions are normally shown to be strong and noble, and equitaur mares are often shown as coy, flirty but compassionate.

An Equitaur can produce both human and equine vocalisations (speech, and neighs/whinnys). They may possibly be considered slightly closer to a pure equine than Centaurs are.

Equitaurs are also referred to as "horsetaurs," or in the Chakat universe as "quanges," a term coined by the artist Roy D. Pounds II.

Equitaurs in fiction
In the episode "Quest for the Potion of Power" of the Nintendo-themed cartoon series Captain N: The Game Master, Captain N and his companions join forces with Link from The Legend of Zelda series and encounters the boss character Horsehead, who is depicted in the episode as a brown equitaur with a yellow Mohawk, mane, tail and goatee. In the game Zelda II: The Adventure of Link, this character is normally depicted as just an anthropomorphic horse. He attacks the group after Link steals a jewel from his horde, and is defeated by Captain N.

In the anime series Ultimate Muscle, the chess-themed wrestling character Checkmate is capable of transforming into a horse-headed centaur.

Equitaurs, referred to as "quanges," appear frequently in the Chakat universe, usually serving in the capacity of transport drivers, mechanics or other skilled laborers. One notable equitaur in the series is Carol, who owns and runs her own diner named The Gulp 'N' Gallop that specializes in serving equitaur clientele. She is joined by fellow equitaur Joe, who is the restaurant's head chef.
A squirrel is a small omnivorous rodent, and are members of the family Sciuridae, a family that includes small or medium-size rodents. The squirrel family includes tree squirrels, ground squirrels, chipmunks, marmots (including groundhogs), flying squirrels, and prairie dogs amongst other rodents. Squirrels are indigenous to the Americas, Eurasia, and Africa, and were introduced by humans to Australia.

For many people, the type of squirrel that first comes to mind is a tree squirrel. Affectionately called "tree rats" by some in the furry fandom for their arboreal lifestyle, its most distinctive feature is its long, bushy tail.
A horn is a pointed projection of skin on the head of various animals consisting of a covering of keratin and other proteins surrounding a core of living bone.

In the wild, horns are most commonly found on ungulates. They are mostly used by males to compete with other males; females often lack horns for this reason. Both males and females in some species can have horns.

Horns are commonly made of keratin, a hard natural substance from which fur and claws are also made. Most animals, grow continuously through an animal's life, sometimes in a continuous curve or curl, and are not shed. They also commonly occur in pairs.

Other animals, such as the rhinoceros, possess one or two horns (depending on the species) on the upper surface of the snout. However, these horns are not true horns and lack a bony core so they can grow back if cut.

Bony horns are rare or unknown in the wild, but are commonly featured on dragons, which may have one or more pairs.

The ear-tufts of owls are sometimes called horns, but these are merely clumps of feathers that happen to be located on the top of the head.

In fursuits, horns are often made out of plastic.

Styles of horns
* Straight: a simple, uncurved spike, seen in the unicorn.
* Curved: a horn with a small curvature in one direction. Seen in gazelles and goats.
* Curled or Spiral: horns with strong curvature, such that they circle in a helix. Seen in sheep, in which the horns curl round at the sides of the head to provide a hard, curved area to butt with; also in impala, which grow the horns upward and outward in a long spiral.

Hornlike structures
* Antlers - A pair of bony, branching growths on the heads of deer. They are structurally dissimilar to horns, but their function is the same. Unlike horns, they are shed every year and regrown completely. The pronghorn is unique in that it has horns, but sheds the horny sheath each year, leaving a bony prong.
* Ossicones - Skin-covered bone structures on the heads in members of the family Giraffidae, such as the giraffe and okapi. Ossicones are distinguished from the superficially similar structures of horns and antlers by their unique development and a permanent covering of skin and fur.
* Tusks - Elongated front teeth which resemble horns. The most well-known animal with tusks is the elephant, but it occurs in other animals, including pigs, hippopotamuses, walruses, water deer, muntjac, musk deer and the narwhal.
