Zebra

2023-10-14T22:21:51Z

2601:18D:4700:72A0:CC60:8EB8:7AA6:DC6F:

The Zebra is a relative of the horse native to the savannahs of Africa. The name zebra may refer to any of three extant species or eight subspecies of the genus Equus. It is easily recognized by the black and white stripes of its fur, which, like a human fingerprint, vary between each individual, and is used to ward off insect bites and predators.

The three extant species include the plains zebra (Equus quagga), the Grévy's zebra (Equus grevyi), and the mountain zebra (Equus zebra). The former two belong to the subgenus Hippotigris, whereas the latter belongs to the subgenus Dolichohippus. The Grévy's zebra and the mountain zebra are endangered, and the quagga, a subspecies of plains zebra went extinct in the late 1800s due to hunting for food and skins, but has since been rebred from zebra DNA.fact Of the three remaining species, both the mountain and the Grévy's zebra are in the threatened category, the mountain zebra classified as Vulnerable and the Grévy's zebra endangered.

Unlike their close relatives, the horse and donkey, zebras have never truly been domesticated due to their unpredictability and liability to startle under stress. Therefore, hybrids are prefered for domestication. Hybrids of zebras and any other equine species are known as zebroids. Such hybrids include the zorse, zony, and zonkey.

Zebra characters are few and far between in furry fandom, though they are used occasionally as funny animal counterparts to humans of African descent.

Horses are a very common species of equines in the real world. Domesticated horses play an important role in the human history.

Physical characteristics
Horses are large, heavy, hoofed mammals. They are herbivores, and feed by grazing, commonly on grass.

Despite their large size and weight (up to 2500 pounds, or 1134 kg), horses are generally thought of as gentle creatures; however, their hooves can cause great damage by kicking or trampling.

The fur of a horse is mostly very short, forming an almost skintight covering, except on the head and back of the neck, which grows long into a formation called the mane; and the tail, which is specialized in horses for protecting the rear from flies: it has a bunch of long, very fine hairs which are swiped to disturb the flies. Horsetails are prized for their silk-like hairs.

Terminology
A male horse is called a stallion or sire, a female horse is called a mare or dam, and an offspring less than one year old a foal (male: colt, female: filly). A castrated male horse is called a gelding.

Hybrids
A mule is the offspring of a male donkey and a female horse. The much rarer successful mating of a male horse and a female donkey produces a hinny. The offspring of a zebra-horse cross is called a zorse, zebroid, horsebra, zebrula, zebrose or zebrule; "zebra mule" is an older term, but still used in some regions today. The foregoing terms generally refer to these hybrids. Hebra and zebrinny also refer to crosses of a female zebra with a male horse.

Breeds
The horse is largely a domestic animal and has been bred for centuries. The species which produced the horse no longer exists in the wild, although some wild horse species exist.

Horses have been selectively bred to enhance various qualities, enabling them to fulfill various roles in their work for humans. Draft horses are bred for power, and are thus large and heavy; show horses are bred for grace and beauty; racehorses, for speed.

Horses and furry
In furry artwork, anthro horses are often represented with hooved hands - either as full hooves that are somehow able to manipulate objects, or as more humanoid hands with hooflike nails.

The wolf (Canis lupus), also known as the gray wolf or grey wolf, is a large canine native to Eurasia and North America.

These canines are defined as any of several large carnivorous mammals of the genus Canis, of the dog family Canidae, and are one of the most popular species for fursonas in the furry fandom.

Historical views
In Ancient Rome, wolves were considered symbols of sexual potency as well as good mothers, the latter easily noticeable in the Roman foundation myth of Romulus and Remus, where the twins were raised by a she-wolf. Native Americans revere the Wolf Totem in a different light, seeing wolves as Pathfinders and Guardians. This flies in contrast to the place of the wolf in most western history, wolves having been primarily seen as creatures to be feared, a viewpoint even noted in religious texts such as the Bible: "Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves."

Modern perspective
Though the connotations associated with the wolf from ages past still lingers, the view of the wolf today is constantly evolving. Everything from scientific research and readily available documentaries to books and films has done much to alter the public view of these creatures, one notable such example being the film Never Cry Wolf. As the wild ancestors of domestic dogs, wolves are both familiar and exotic to humans, which might explain their continuing fascination. Wolves have almost become cliches in some types of modern historical and fantasy fiction, shown as noble, savage, or a mixture of both qualities. The Wolves of Time duology included wolf characters from nobly self-sacrificing through to unrepentantly evil. In the furry fandom, a mix of both elements is seen: admiration and distrust.

Halfshell (born September 6, 1981), also known as Halfshell Hero, Sabaka, Sabaka'Zlo, Halfshell Boa, and Sabaka Mahusky, is a furry artist from Kansas City, Kansas, USA. Halfshell is blood related to country legend Merle Haggard and rock legend Melissa Etheridge. Halfshell is also friends with Jeff Goode (creator of Disney's American Dragon: Jake Long), Dante Basco (voice of Jake Long and played Rufio in Hook), Robbie Rist (voice of Whiz in Kidd Video, Michelangelo in the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie franchise), and the late Stefán Karl Stefánsson (played Robbie Rotten on LazyTown).

Fandom involvement
Halfshell Hero joined the fandom in late 2004 after leaving the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fandom. While surfing on various websites, he found anthropomorphic art, and was interested in the furry culture. After submitting his own art to the InflatioNation, and was welcomed into the community, chatting with other furries online and getting to meet fellow furry, Sir Kain before AnthroCon in 2005. Halfshell was also one of the six original FurAffinity admins (2005) after its Beta launch in 2005 when it was under ownership of Alkora, who was known as Byakko Wolf or Jheryn Lightfoot then.

Fursonas
Halfshell
Halfshell's main is a turtle fursona. It depicts from his transittion from his Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles community to the furry community in 2004. The turtle character has gone through a few changes, the ninja attire and black headband was removed in 2005 and left remained a normal turtle for a few years after. When some the TMNT community joined the furries, red hair and then blue cap then was added in 2008.
Sabaka
Sabaka or Sabaka (Zlo) Mahusky [pronunciation: Saa'baka-shlo] is Halfshell's first original furry character. The character is a black and white husky-wolf mix (breed called wusky), with a scar down the left eye to his cheek. Sabaka Mahusky mostly donning a blue Hawaiian shirt with light blue palm leave design over it. Sabaka's alter-ego, Sabaka'Zlo is wearing his trademarked armor suit. Sabaka, the Russian meaning for dog or wolf; Zllo, the Russian meaning "demon", "evil", "devil". The idea for the character was spawned when Halfshell and a local kid were creating ideas for comic book characters. Sabaka is currently being used for Ironclaw role-playing game, and is Halfshell's retired fursuit since 2009.

Second life
Halfshell will often hang around Second Life under the name Halfshell Boa, and has created logos for various clubs and groups such as the Gay Furry Club (GFC), Cold Flame, and others.

Art
Halfshell is also an artist working on traditional medium, mainly hand drawn using color pencils on paper. His artwork can be found on various platforms like deviantArt and Fur Affinity and on the discontinued SheezyArt and InflationNation. In 2005, Halfshell drew Disney's American Dragon: Jake Long inflated, which is now posted and published on Jeff Goode's official and personal site.

Music
In late 2004, Halfshell was a member of InflationNation site where he and Jaimetud Otter recorded “Blue’s Christmas” a parody of Elvis Presley's "Blue Christmas", recorded for a friend, Blue. Later in 2005, Halfshell recorded "Leavin' the Con", as an effect of his Post Con Depression of AnthroCon 2005. Halfshell wanted to try parodies after the influence of SonicBlu, trying parody music, or also known as Furry Filk, covering various styles of Elvis Presley, Tom Petty, and Duran Duran.

Halfshell's music used to be heard on furry stations such as Planetfurry Radio (KWAT) and OtterTunes (ROVR) from 2005 to roughly around 2017, and since 2014 on MadMusic Archive. Over the years, Halfshell has wrote a few songs such as, Caught In A Map (2005) (co-written by Viktoria Foxfang), If Everyday Was a Fur Con (2005), Leavin' the Con (2004), I Won't Chow Down (2003), and Give All It's Pumping (to Inflate Oz Kangaroo) (2007). Some songs has also appeared on the Dr. Demento Show playlist as anonymous in 2004 with "I Won't Chow Down" and on July 14 of 2012, has appeared under the name Halfshell Hero with the remake of Vikitoria Foxfang's "The Hungry Furries" (2012).

Pandaren

2023-10-14T16:13:26Z

2601:18D:4700:72A0:CC60:8EB8:7AA6:DC6F:

Pandaren are a humanoid race which closely resemble giant pandas although the player can choose characters resembling the red panda. The Pandaren occupy their own continent, Pandaria, which split off during the Sundering and was magically shrouded from the rest of Azeroth until the release of Mists of Pandaria. The Pandaren were originally introduced as an April Fools' joke by Blizzard's art director Samwise Didier as a playable race in Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne; in the "bonus" campaign centered around the Horde, the Pandaren brewmaster Chen Stormstout is a supporting character, marking the first appearance of the race in World of Warcraft.

The playable Pandaren in Mists of Pandaria are currently the only race in World of Warcraft that begins neutral, choosing between the Alliance or the Horde at the end of their starting area, around level 10. The playable pandaren hail from the Wandering Isle.

Pandaren are able to play as Hunter, Mage, Rogue, Priest, Shaman, Warrior, or Monk. Owing to timeline conflicts, the Pandaren are the only race in World of Warcraft that cannot be death knights as the events on their starting area of the Wandering Isle occur well after the death knights' storyline in Wrath of the Lich King.
