Werecats, also written in a hyphenated form as were-cats (lesser known as ailuranthropes), are feline therianthropic creatures of folklore, fantasy fiction, horror fiction and occultism that are generally described as shapeshifters who are similar to werewolves, except that they turn into creatures that are based on some species of feline instead of being based on a wolf.

Etymology
Ailuranthropy comes from the Greek root words ailouros meaning "cat", and anthropos, meaning "human" and refers to human/feline transformations, or to other beings that combine feline and human characteristics, or to other beings that combine feline and human characteristics. Its root word ailouros is also used in ailurophilia, the most common term for a deep love of cats.

Folklore
Werecat folklore is found on all continents except Antarctica and Australia and is generally based on wild felines native to the area. Depending on the story in question, the species involved can be domestic cats, tigers, lions, jaguars, leopards, lynxes, or any other feline species, including some that are purely mythical felines.

Europe
European folklore usually depicts werecats who transform into domestic cats. Some European werecats became giant domestic cats. They are generally labeled witches, even though they may have just the one magical ability, of self-transformation. The power of transformation is regarded as due to inheritance, to the use of spells, to fasting and will-power, to the use of charms, etc. Save when it is hungry or has just cause for revenge, it is not hostile to man; in fact, it is said to take its animal form only at night and to guard the plantations from wild pigs, exactly as the balams (magicians) of Yucatán were said to guard the maize fields in animal form. Variants of this belief assert that the shapeshifter does not recognize his friends unless they call him by name, or that he goes out as a mendicant and transforms himself to take vengeance on those who refuse him alms. Somewhat similar is the belief of the Khonds; for them the tiger is friendly, and he reserves his wrath for their enemies. A man is said to take the form of a tiger in order to wreak a just vengeance.

South America
The foremost were-animal in pre-Columbian Mesoamerican cultures was the werejaguar. It was associated with the veneration of the jaguar, with priests and shamans among the various peoples who followed this tradition, wearing the skins of jaguars to "become" a werejaguar. Among the Aztecs, an entire class of specialized warriors who dressed in the jaguar skins were called "jaguar warriors" or "jaguar knights". Depictions of the jaguar and the werejaguar are among the most common motifs among the artifacts of the ancient Mesoamerican civilizations. South American werecats usually became werejaguars. In some tribes, all shamans were thought to have the ability to become werejaguars. There are also urban legends about jaguar shapeshifters lurking along highways in tales similar to the modern vanishing hitchhiker, and of their being assassins secretly employed by the government or organized crime.

North America
Present-day North American werecat legends are usually based on the European model, with domestic cats, either normal-sized or giant, being the favored shape. Cougars appear rarely, and jaguars only appear south of the American border. In what is now Mexico, Aztec folklore described jaguar people as being specially blessed by one of the gods, but modern Mexican folklore is more likely to attribute such transformation powers to the devil. American urban legends tell of encounters with feline bipeds; beings similar to the Bigfoot having cat heads, tails and paws. Feline bipeds are sometimes classified as part of cryptozoology, but more often they are interpreted as werecats. It was also featured in the video game Baldur's Gate: Tales of the Sword Coast and the Ravenloft setting.

Werewolf: The Apocalypse features the lupus breed of Garou that are born from the union of a werewolf and a wolf. While not called a wolfwere, they share many of the same characteristics. They are born as ordinary wolves and eventually undergo a metamorphosis in which they gain human intelligence and the ability to shapeshift from wolf to human and various states in between. This concept was scrapped when Werewolf: The Apocalypse was ended and replaced with Werewolf: The Forsaken, a similar game with a new setting and new rules.

The character of Brother Lupin in the Discworld novel Reaper Man is a wolf who transforms into a human, although the book refers to him as a "wereman".

In the Peter David novella "Howling Mad", the main character is a wolf, who after being bitten by a werewolf, is able to transform into a human.

In the book River, the main character is a wolf, who after being bitten by a human, becomes human herself.

Wolfwere and furry
Although the wolfwere does appear in furry lore, this fantasy hybrid species is really uncommon.

Horn

2023-11-23T07:49:01Z

2601:18D:4700:72A0:C1CA:1EB5:50ED:FC87: /* Hornlike structures */

A horn is a permanent pointed projection on the head of various animals that consists of a covering of keratin and other proteins surrounding a core of living bone.

Overview
In mammals, true horns are found mainly among the ruminant artiodactyls in the families Antilocapridae (pronghorn) and Bovidae (bovines: cattle, goats, antelope, etc.). Cattle horns arise from subcutaneous connective tissue (under the scalp) and later fuse to the underlying frontal bone. In the wild, horns are most commonly found on ungulates.

Horns are commonly made of keratin, a hard natural substance from which fur and claws are also made. Most animals, grow continuously through an animal's life, sometimes in a continuous curve or curl, and are not shed. They also commonly occur in pairs.

Other animals, such as the rhinoceros, possess one or two horns (depending on the species) on the upper surface of the snout. However, these horns are not true horns and lack a bony core so they can grow back if cut.

Horns are mostly used by males to compete with other males; females often lack horns for this reason, but in some species,cn both males and females can have them.

Styles of horns
* Straight: a simple, uncurved spike, seen in the unicorn, an imaginary fantasy creature.
* Curved: a horn with a small curvature in one direction. Seen in gazelles and goats.
* Curled or Spiral: horns with strong curvature, such that they circle in a helix. Seen in sheep, in which the horns curl round at the sides of the head to provide a hard, curved area to butt with; also in impala, which grow the horns upward and outward in a long spiral.

Hornlike structures
* Antlers - A pair of non-permanent, bony, branching growths on the heads of deer. They are structurally dissimilar to horns, but their function is the same. Unlike horns, they are shed every year and regrown completely. The pronghorn is unique in that it has horns, but sheds the horny sheath each year, leaving a bony prong.
* Tusks - Elongated front teeth which resemble horns. The most well-known animal with tusks is the elephant, but it occurs in other animals, including pigs, peccaries, hippopotamuses, walruses, chevrotains, water deer, muntjac, musk deer and the narwhal.
* Ossicones - Skin-covered bone structures on the heads of members of the family Giraffidae, such as the giraffe and okapi. Ossicones are distinguished from the superficially similar structures of horns and antlers by their unique development and a permanent covering of skin and fur.

Misc
Bony horns are rare or unknown in the wild but are commonly featured on fantasy dragons, which may have one or more pairs. The ear-tufts of owls are sometimes called "horns", but these are merely clumps of feathers that happen to be located on the top of the head.

Horns and furry
In fursuits, horns are often made out of plastic due to weight.

In the mid to late 1990's, Max was on YiffNet and attended Further Confusion 2009. After personal issues, they disappeared from the furry fandom between 2000 and 2004, during which time he became a fan of Japanese anime.

Max is one of the veteran furries on the game Second Life, having started playing in late 2004. They became close friends with the furry Tinintri. Together, they helped found the online club known as AnthroXtacy. In late 2008, Max left Second Life for good and concentrated his furry life on Fur Affinity.

Since leaving AnthroXtacy, they have spent their time getting to know others on Fur Affinity, as well as commissioning several artists on FA. To this day, they remained good friends with the majority of AnthroXtacy's founders and still takes part in some of its decision makings when it comes to out of Second Life activity.

They had commissioned several artists in his history with the furry fandom, more recent ones including Elton Portilho, Marmalade Blue, xpray and other well-known artists and reportedly has plans to add more commissions to his repertoire. He also plans to start attending furry and anime conventions, to help make new friends within the fandom, beyond the internet.

They describe themselves as a "full time gamer otaku and part-time Greymuzzle furry".

In 2019, they came out as female.

Fursona
Their initial fursona was Maxine Zeno while on Second Life. They changed their fursona's name to MaxCoyote, and gave the exclusive character rights of Maxine Zeno to his friend Tinintri.

Since 2014 until 2019, their fursona has been a were-coyote mix. In 2012 they described their fursona as being a mix of two-thirds coyote and one-third fox.

Their fursona is updated and is now currently a were-coyote-fox hybrid

Fursuit
MaxCoyote's fursuit was built in 2011 by FurGenStudios.

Ratchet & Clank

2023-11-23T05:28:22Z

2601:18D:4700:72A0:C1CA:1EB5:50ED:FC87:

Ratchet & Clank is an action platformer game designed by Insomniac Games. It was originally released for the PlayStation 2 console in the USA on November 4, 2002 and has since had twelve other titles in the franchise spread over PS2, PS3 and PS4, two mobile games, and a movie. It has grown into one of the three most popular platformer franchises for the PlayStation 2, along with Jak and Daxter and Sly Cooper.

The game features a character named Ratchet, a member of a fictional furry species called the lombax, which has large pointed ears, stripes, and a tail with a puffball tip. He carries his sidekick, a robot called Clank, on his back. Ratchet can collect a variety of weapons including bombs, a blaster, a flame thrower, and a bazooka. He can also collect a number of gadgets that allow him to perform various stunts and solve puzzles, such as magnetic boots and a grappling hook. It is established in 2007's Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction that Ratchet is the last of his race in the universe (seemingly clearing up a misconception that Angela Cross, from Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando, was also a lombax, as many fans believed, but an in-game news cast in Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time tells that she actually is a Lombax.); the rest of his race escaped into an alternate dimension to avoid destruction.

A game, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart was released in 2021, featuring a new character, Rivet.

While the game features characters that are considered 'furry' by the fandom, it is unlikely that they were created with furries in mind.

Characters
* Clank: This robot is a pint-size adept generated in an apparent processing error by a factory which produces combat and security robots. He starts the game by slipping out of a dispensing chute and stealing a spaceship. Unfortunately, he is pursued and shot down, crash-landing on planet Veldin near Ratchet's home.

* Ratchet: Ratchet is a lombax, a self-taught mechanic who dreams of travelling to other worlds in search of fame and fortune; to that end, he is building a ship -- one which needs a robotic starter unit. He rescues Clank, who happens to have that capability, and thus the team is forged.

* Angela Cross: Angela Cross is a female lombax who formerly worked in the genetics division of Megacorp in the Bogon Galaxy, on fixing the Protopet's flaws.

* Chairman Drek: Chairman of a company which polluted the Blarg homeworld until it became uninhabitable except by toxic sludge-monsters. He has a plan to replace it, however...

* Captain Qwark: He is the Hero of the Universe and Savior of the Galaxy -- if you believe his advertising. Ratchet figures that the best way to save his home from Drek is to get Qwark to do it.

* Rivet: A female blue lombax with a robotic arm from another from another dimension who teams up with Clank while he is separated from Ratchet. Despite being a female, she has a tail.

Howard the Duck is a cult classic Marvel Comics comic book character created by Steve Gerber in 1973 and star of several comic book series of the same name about the misadventures of an ill-tempered anthropomorphic duck from a funny animal version of Earth now trapped on Earth. Howard generally wears a tie and shirt, and is almost always found smoking a cigar. Like many cartoon ducks, he originally wore no pants until Disney threatened legal action due to Howard's resemblance to Donald Duck. While the comic book depicts anthropomorphism, it is not a furry comic. He is a Duckworldian, a species of anthropomorphic ducks from Duckworld.

The Comics
Howard's adventures are generally parodies of science fiction and fantasy, written in a tongue-in-cheek style and combined with a degree of metafictional awareness of the limitations of the medium, often very experimental for a non-underground comic.

Howard was Howard the Duck was created by writer Steve Gerber and penciler Val Mayerik in and his first appearance was in the comic book Adventure into Fear #19, as a secondary character to the Man-Thing story. He would return in Giant-Size Man-Thing and eventually earn his own comic book title in 1976. A newspaper strip was attempted from 1977 to 1978, but failed to gain any popularity.

Howard's plug was pulled in 1978 when Gerber, who had gained a degree of creative autonomy, clashed over issues of creative control, and Gerber was abruptly removed from the series.
Howard would return briefly in 1979 and 2001 in short-lived runs that lasted only a few issues each and was last seen in Civil War: Choosing Sides #1 (Feb. 2006). In 2007, he returned in Howard the Duck vol. 4 #1-4, a miniseries by writer Ty Templeton and artist Juan Bobillo. This series was rated for ages 9 and up, though one issue was published with a Marvel Zombies tie-in cover with a parental advisory claim.

In November 2014, Marvel announced an ongoing series starting in March 2015 featuring Howard as a private investigator on Earth. The creative team consisted of writer Chip Zdarsky and artist Joe Quinones. Howard the Duck (vol. 5) ran for 5 issues before Marvel relaunched many of their existing titles with the All-New, All-Different Marvel line of comics. This led to a reboot produced by the same creative team starting with Howard the Duck (vol. 6) #1 in November 2015. This series included a two-part crossover with The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl. The 11th and last issue was released in October 2016.

The Movie
In 1986, a feature film was created, produced by George Lucas and starring Lea Thompson, Jeffrey Jones, Tim Robbins, and Chip Zien as the voice of Howard. Howard himself was portrayed by an assortment of stunt actors in a duck suit. The only characters brought over from the comics were Howard and his sidekick/girlfriend Beverly Switzler, played by Lea Thompson. The film was widely panned and was a box office bomb, winning the 1987 Razzie Awards for Worst New Star, Worst Picture, Worst Screenplay and Worst Visual Effects. This caused George Lucas who was heavily in debt at the time to sell to Steve Jobs, the CEO of Apple Computer, Lucasfilm's newly-launched CGI animation division for a price well above market value. That division eventually become Pixar Animation Studios.

Television
*Howard the Duck makes a cameo appearance in the Ultimate Spider-Man episode "Awesome", voiced by Kevin Michael Richardson. This version is contained in a lab on the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier.
*Additionally, an alternate reality pirate version of Howard appears in the episode "Return to the Spider-Verse" Pt. 2, voiced by Seth Green. This version is a member of Captain Web Beard's crew.
*Howard the Duck makes a non-speaking cameo appearance in the Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H. episode "The Collector", as one of the eponymous character's prisoners.
*Howard the Duck appears in Guardians of the Galaxy, voiced again by Seth Green. This version is an old acquaintance of Rocket Raccoon.
*Hulu intended to air a Howard the Duck animated series, written and executive produced by Kevin Smith and Dave Willis, that would have led up to a crossover special involving MODOK, Hit-Monkey, Tigra, and Dazzler called The Offenders. However, in January 2020, it was announced that the Howard the Duck series was cancelled.

Film
*Howard the Duck appears in a self-titled film of the same name, voiced by Chip Zien and performed by stunt actors Peter Baird, Ed Gale, Jordan Prentice, Tim Rose, Steve Sleap, Lisa Sturz, and Mary Wells. This version was transported to Earth by a laser spectroscope experiment gone awry.
*Howard the Duck makes cameo appearances in media set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, voiced by Seth Green.
**Howard first appears in the live-action film Guardians of the Galaxy, as a living exhibit in the Collector's museum on Knowhere. When the Guardians of the Galaxy visit the Collector and attempt to sell him the Power Stone, his slave Carina attempts to use it, only to cause an explosion that kills her and frees all of the Collector's imprisoned creatures. In a post-credits scene, Howard has a drink with the Collector and Cosmo amidst the wreckage. In August 2014, Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn said, "It's possible Howard could reappear as more of a character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But if people think that's going to lead to a Howard the Duck movie, that's probably not going to happen in the next four years. Who knows after that?".
**Howard makes subsequent appearances in the live-action films Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Avengers: Endgame, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. He was also meant to make a cameo appearance in the live-action film Avengers: Infinity War. While the scene was cut, Howard was confirmed to have survived the Blip.
**Alternate timeline versions of Howard appear in the Disney+ animated series What If...?, voiced again by Green. In the episode "What If... T'Challa Became a Star-Lord?", a variant of Howard is kept in the Collector's museum until Star-Lord T'Challa frees him to help the latter find an artifact called the Embers of Genesis. Howard initially agrees, but stops to get a drink, forcing T'Challa to continue alone. In the episode "What If... Thor Were an Only Child?", another variant of Howard attends Thor's party on Earth and ends up marrying Darcy Lewis.
**Plans have also occurred for Howard to star in his own film. In 2016, Rob Zombie claimed that he had pitched a Howard the Duck film to Marvel, but was turned down. After a rumor in June 2017 incorrectly stated that Marvel Studios was developing a film based Howard that would involve Gunn as a producer, Gunn himself confirmed later that September that a film for the character was not being made, saying that while there were several comics characters he loved, he was "not making films of them all". In June 2018, Lea Thompson revealed that she was preparing to meet with Marvel Studios about her pitch for a new Howard the Duck film she wanted to direct after previously starring in the 1986 film as Beverly Switzler. Thompson had developed the pitch to be set in the MCU and worked on it "for a really long time" with modern Howard the Duck comic book writers Chip Zdarsky and Joe Quinones, who had included her as a character in one of their comic runs. That September, Thompson said Marvel Studios loved her pitch but told her they had no plans for a Howard the Duck film and that they would contact her again following the development of their MCU television series on Disney+. Thompson expressed further interest in directing an MCU reboot for the character following his appearance in What If...?.
