'''Animorphs''' was a book series created by [[Katherine Applegate]] and published by Scholastic. There were 64 books in all, including 54 'main universe' books, four 'megamorphs' (double-sized books), four standalone novels, and two choose-your-own-adventure. In addition, there were Animorphs [[Transformers]], video games, and a short-lived TV show on Nickelodeon.
{{cleanup}}
In the series, the main enemy was the Yeerks, an alien species of mind-controlling [[Wikipedia:parasite|parasite]]. In order to fight the yeerks, a group of five young [[human]]s is given the gift of [[shapeshifting]] by a dying alien named Elfangor.

The shapeshifting ability allows these humans, who adopt the name Animorphs for themselves, to absorb DNA or genetic material by touch, and then transform into that animal. They can only remain shapeshifted for a maximum of two hours, however; after this the change is permanent. This fate befalls the main character Tobias in the first book, and his difficulties with being stuck as an animal are explored over the series.
The six main characters are Jake (signature morph: [[tiger]]), Cassie (signature morph: [[wolf]]), Marco (signature morph: [[gorilla]]), Rachel (signature morph: [[elephant]] until book seven at which point it alternates between elephant and [[Bear (species)|grizzly bear]]), Tobias (signature morph: red-tailed [[hawk]]), and Aximili (an Andalite, a sort of [[Wikipedia:psychic|psychic]] [[deer]]-[[scorpion]] [[taur]]). Aximili was rescued from the remnants of an Andalite Dome Ship in the fourth book. In the next (fifth) book, Marco discovers that his mother ((sometimes called Eva, other times called Laura)) is Visser One. In book six, Jake accidentally falls into a Yeerk Pool and ends up with the Yeerk, named Temrash, who used to be in his brother Tom's head in his. At the very end, Jake sees a Big Red Eye, who isn't named until the twenty-sixth book. The fanbase at this point was already very strong, and was able to persuade Applegate to bring back the B.R.E., as the fans had started calling him. Another fan-induced idea happened in books five and thirteen, when a member of the usually dumb Hork-Bajir "started talking like he had a Harvard education", as Marco put it in book five. Eight books later, a name was given to this type of Hork-Bajir: Seer. A fan named [[Erin K. Dover]] had persuaded Applegate to use intelligent Hork-Bajir.
(Note: The original term Dover used was Hork-Bajir Thinker, not Hork-Bajir Seer.)

In the twenty-third book, it is discovered that Aximili, or Ax, as the others call him, is Tobias' uncle, although the fans had known this ever since the Andalite Chronicles came out.
'''Macro''' (a Greek [[W:Prefix|prefix]] meaning "''large''" or "''long''"), also known as a '''macrofurry''', and (less commonly) as a '''furry giant''', is a [[furspeak]] term used to describe any [[furry]] [[character]] who is much larger in size than a normal being.

== Overview ==

Commonly, macros start around anything above 50 feet (15 meters), which means anything from a character larger than a normal [[human]] (8-9 feet = 2.44 to 2.74 meters tall), to [[W:Titan (mythology)|titans]] that dwarf cities, with the most common type of locomotion being either [[bipedal]], [[quadrupedal]] ([[quad]]s or [[taur]]s), or [[pentapedal]]. Intelligence-wise, macros can be either [[feral]] or [[anthro]] (sentient).

Macros occur by various means: Growth methods via pills or a ray of some description (alien abductions normally, or mad doctors), or excessive food consumption ([[Doug Winger]]), birthed as a macro-[[creature]] to begin with (e.g. [[dragon]]s-like beings), mutations (a la [[Hulk Bunny]] <nowiki>[</nowiki>Earth-8311's [[Spider-Ham]] universe<nowiki>]</nowiki>), and/or magic, among others.

=== Paraphilia ===

The attraction or [[W:Sexual fantasy|sexual fantasy]] to macro characters is known as [[macrophilia]].

== Sites ==

Originally, one of the best-known older sites dedicated to macro furs was [[Macrophile.com]], while other sites included [[Temdant's Macro Furry and Animal in Media Page]], a website of macro transformations in the media, and [[The Giants' Club]], an archive of macro stories.

But macros can now be found in most modern archives such as [[DeviantArt]], [[Fur Affinity]], [[InkBunny]], [[SoFurry]], [[Weasyl]], etc. and [[W:Social site|social sites]] like [[Twitter]], [[W:Discord|Discord]], [[W:Telegram (software)|Telegram]], et al.

== Artists ==

Noted [[furry artist]]s and [[writer|story writers]] include people such as [[Kenneth Sample]], [[Lisa Jennings]], [[Wolfkidd]], [[Rogue]], [[Kolt]], [[Gideon Hoss|Gideon]], [[Brahma]], [[Timbawulf]], '''[[Doug Winger]]''' (until his passing), [[SusanDeer]], [[Bennie]], [[Jolly Jack]], [[Chaswari]], [[Ducky]], [[Astor]], [[Viggen]], [[Temdant]], and many others.

[[File:Donkey.jpg|right|240px]]
{{species}}
The '''donkey''' or '''ass''' is a domesticated member of the [[horse]] family.

==Physical characteristics==
Donkeys vary considerably in size, depending on breed and management. The height at the [[wikipedia:withers|withers]] ranges from 80 to 160cm, and the weight from 80 to 480kg. Donkeys have a lifespan of 30 to 50 years.<ref name=alberta>{{cite web|url= http://www1.agric.gov.ab.ca/$department/deptdocs.nsf/all/agdex598 |title=The Donkey |publisher= Government of Alberta: Agriculture and Rural Development|date= 1990-11-01 |accessdate=2010-09-14}}</ref>

Donkeys are adapted to marginal desert lands, and have many traits that are unique to the species as a result. Wild donkeys live separated from each other, unlike tight wild and feral horse herds, and in the wild, asses can reach top speeds equalling [[zebra]]s and even most [[horse]]s. Donkeys have developed very loud vocalizations, which help keep in contact with other donkeys over the wide spaces of the desert. The best-known call is referred to as a "bray," which can be heard for over three kilometers. Donkeys in the wild can defend themselves with a powerful kick of their hind legs as well as by biting and striking with their front hooves.

==Terminology==
A [[male]] donkey or ass is called a '''jack''', a [[female]] a '''jenny''', and an offspring less than one year old a '''foal''' (male: '''colt''', female: '''filly''').

===Hybrids===
A '''mule''' is the offspring of a male donkey and a female horse. The much rarer successful mating of a male horse and a female donkey produces a '''hinny'''. The offspring of a zebra-donkey cross is called a '''zonkey''', '''zebroid''', '''zebrass''', or '''zedonk''';<ref name=zorse>{{cite web|url=http://www.lovelongears.com/zorse.html |title=American Donkey and Mule Society: Zebra Hybrids |publisher=Lovelongears.com |date= |accessdate=2010-09-14}}</ref> '''"zebra mule"''' is an older term, but still used in some regions today. The foregoing terms generally refer to hybrids produced by breeding a male zebra to a female donkey. '''Zebra hinny''', '''donkra''', '''zebret''' and '''zebrinny''' all refer to the cross of a female zebra with a male donkey.

==Behaviour==
Donkeys have a notorious reputation for stubbornness, but this has been attributed to a much stronger sense of "self preservation" than exhibited by horses.<ref name=abc>{{cite web|url=http://www.abc.net.au/creaturefeatures/facts/donkeys.htm |title=ABC.net.au |publisher=ABC.net.au |date=2003-05-19 |accessdate=2010-09-14}}</ref> Likely based on a stronger prey instinct and a weaker connection with man, it is considerably more difficult to force or frighten a donkey into doing something it perceives to be dangerous for whatever reason.

==Anthropomorphism==
