Michele Light

24.17.147.74:

Michele Light was artistically inclined well before her actual birth. Her mother tells everyone that the colorful doodles that adorn her abdomen are ritual Phillipino tattoos. Yes, it is true, Michele was born a citizen of the Phillipines, and took her oath of U.S. citizenship at the age of four. Sadly, she cannot become President of the United States thanks to this fact, although there is some hope of this happening, some day, thanks to Our Beloved Governator. Michele resides in San Diego, California.

After many years of defacing United States Government furniture during her father's tours of duty with the US Air Force, Michele settled in Southern California, then promptly left the area to attend The Art Institute of Seattle, Washington. After receiving her art degree she migrated to the San Diego area, where she first met Terrie Smith while working on her first "real" art job, animating the (mercifully) short-lived Attack of the Killer Tomatoes animated TV show. Terrie introduced Michele to the then blooming furry fandom scene, and Michele began drawing furry images in late 1992.

A lucky 13 years later, Michele is still going strong in a much larger and robust furry scene. Her usual convention appearances include FC, Anthrocon, Conifur, and Midwest Furfest. Her involvement in the fandom is not extensive due to her career with Verizon, where she works as a senior graphic designer in their Web site division.

The most common comment about Michele's work is, "It's so cute!!" Her love of anime definitely shows through in her work, which has the distorted proportions and oversized eyes that define the Japanese style of drawing. You can also tell how many people have learned to draw snow leopards (Michele's signature animal) by comparing the spot patterns on their bodies and tails to Michele's work.

You can follow any of the links below to learn more about Michele and to view her work. If you are ever at a convention where Michele is attending, please stop by her table and say, "Hi!"
