Uncle Kage

Uncle Kage [ka-ge] (or Kagemushi, Dr. Samuel Conway) is one of the furry community's most trusted and honoured members. He is Chairman of Anthrocon, and regularly attends many other furry conventions. He is currently employed by Cerexagri, an agrichemical company.

Uncle Kage is well known for his stories, often based on everyday experiences - Uncle Kage's Story Hour is a popular addition to the schedule whenever he is present at an event. He also manages to make charity auctions fun, to the detriment of the wallets of many con-goers.

Rumours of Uncle Kage's love of certain Japanese distilled spirits are grossly exaggerated, except in those cases where people have photos. Or, in one case, a video recording.

He also has been known to play a macro wolf character, named Rogue.

Did you know? Uncle Kage's name is actually an abbreviation of Kagemushi Goro, or the Samurai Cockroach, his selected persona (kage mushi is Japanese for shadow bug). More information is available from his website.

Talk:Uncle Kage

24.16.22.43: Yes, Uncle Kage is Rogue

Just as a note, Uncle Kage brags about being Rogue at almost every con he goes to. It's a secrect he tells everyone, usualy after his story hour. This isn't really a secret, almost everyone who goes to AC knows it. I really think it should be left on the page.

VCL

The VCL (previously short for the Velan Central Library, popularly the Vixen Controlled Library) is an archive containing more than 200,000 pictures and stories centered around anthromorphic (mainly "furry") characters. On average, around 140 images are uploaded most days, or 50,000 a year; their quality varies widely. A significant proportion of the VCL's content is adult-oriented.

The archive's structure is dynamic, with pages in index format with sub indices and directories. The new art page can be listed by order of the date they were uploaded, or alphabetically, with each page holding a limit of thirty image thumbnails per page. Indices are updated every half-hour or so. The individual directories of the artists are similarly arranged.

The VCL is supported by donations, or (failing that) out of Ch'marr's pocket. Those who donate acquire a special button.

History
The site was founded by Brian W. Antonie as the Velan Central Library - initially, just his private art archive as an FTP site, named after Velar, a location from The Family nas Kan stories. Around 1999 a mirror run by the Ctrl-C computer club opened at the University of Linköping in Sweden, to which the vast majority of traffic was sent.

In January 2005, the Swedish had to be taken down at short notice due to concerns over "objectionable content". Distribution was temporarily continued using a combination the existing U.S. mirror and Coral cache network, but two more U.S. sites were created a month later. As of August 2005, the Swedish server still hosts the VCL Forums.

Rogue (writer)

2005-08-14T17:21:53Z

24.16.22.43:

Rogue is a giant wolfmorph (or megawolf) around 90 feet tall. His main occupation is eating people, after smashing their domiciles. He is also a writer - or rather, he dictates, and other people write.

In his past, Rogue ravaged FurryMUCK, but nowadays he works for their Department of Corrections, an arrangement which reportedly:

:keeps him well fed, and keeps the prisons from becoming overcrowded

Rogue is surprisingly web-savvy, having kept a home page for many years - it passed 100,000 hits in January 2001, 200,000 in August 2002, and 500,000 on 6 April 2005. Since December 2004 he also has a LiveJournal.

Rogue's real life player is played by Uncle Kage.
