Before [[Disney]] released any information about the sequel that would eventually become ''[[Simba's Pride]]'', the cub of [[Simba]] and [[Nala]] who appeared at the end of ''[[The Lion King]]'' was the source of much speculation and a character in many works of [[fan fiction]].

For the most part it was assumed the cub was male, and various names for him/her were said to have come from Disney sources. ''Fluffy'' was the name given to it by the animators during the production of ''The Lion King'', according to the director's commentary on the LaserDisc edition (and later on the DVD release) but this was just a convenient way to refer to an unnamed character. Some months after the release of the movie, he appeared in a series of children's books entitled ''[[Wikipedia:The Lion King: Six New Adventures|The Lion King: Six New Adventures]]'' where he was named [[Kopa]] and was the main character of one of the books, ''Vulture Shock''. It appears, however, that these books were either disregarded by or unknown to the developers of ''Simba's Pride'' (the books are not entirely consistent with each other on unrelated points). Two other names said to be considered for him during production of the sequel are Naba and Chaka, and for a while it appeared the latter was going to be the name of choice. Chaka was described in March 1997 as "at this point the closest thing to an official Disney name for the cub".<ref>[http://www.lionking.org/text/Encyclopedia.txt The Unofficial Lion King Character Encyclopedia] March 1997 Edition at lionking.org. Retrieved July 25, 2006.</ref>

As story development continued, Chaka got a sister, ''Shani''. Shani soon overtook Chaka in importance to the story, while Chaka became more marginalized and eventually was written out of the story altogether. With the cub now a female, other possible names for her that were said to be considered were ''Aisha'', ''Nunka'', and the one finally chosen for her, ''[[Kiara]]''.

All of this took place over a period of about four years. Fans of the movie didn't wait around that long and soon came up with their own ideas about who the cub was. The most popular non-canonical name for the cub was ''[[Tanabi]]''. Other names were proposed in various works of fan fiction for the cub, who was usually male and sometimes part of a litter that included other cubs, but Tanabi was by far the most widely used name.

Some fans have suggest that the cub at the end of the first movie is not Kiara at all but is in fact Kopa or Tanabi, noting that the appearance and coloration of the cub at the end of the first movie don't entirely match the appearance of Kiara, and/or citing ''The Lion King: Six New Adventures'' as a canon source. Some have attempted to reconcile the discrepancy by suggesting he may have somehow died or been killed at a young age, possibly by [[Zira]]. Other possibilities include being kidnapped by a lioness of a different pride and taken as her own child. No official statement has been made by Disney regarding the identity of the cub at the end of the first movie. The majority of fans consider it reasonably clear in ''Simba's Pride'' that Disney meant for us to accept that Kiara was in fact the cub we saw at the end of ''The Lion King''. Something as big as Simba's first born son dying at the "paws" of Zira or being killed by other circumstances would be mentioned.
I posted my references (including a book where the first couple of paragraphs blatantly describe Kopa as Simba and Nala's cub) for Kopa being a more canonical version of Tanabi on [[Talk:Tanabi]]. [[User:SpazKitty|Spaz Kitty]] 03:24, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
:Hmmm... I'm still doubtful the most recent changes (both to [[Tanabi]] and [[Kiara]]) are the best or most accurate way to present the material, but I don't want to get into an editing war over it either. The feeling I get from the current version is as if it is trying to describe two separete characters as if they were the same character. Would you be agreeable to creating a separate article for [[Kopa]]? I'm also thinking the "Who was the cub?" section of [[Kiara]] might ought to be broken out into its own article, though we'd have to figure out what to call it and how to categorize it. --[[User:Mwalimu|mwalimu]] 13:12, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
Regarding the protects I put on four articles a few minutes ago, I only set them to 'registered users only', not to 'sysops only'. I'm not sure how much it will help - some of today's vandalizers were registered, and if people want to vandalize WikiFur they will probably just go after other articles. But maybe it will help a little, and at least keep the front page clean. --[[User:Mwalimu|mwalimu]] 00:15, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
:''From [[User talk:KDelany]]:''

A couple of suggestions about your recent novel entries. First, you don't need to include the Fiction stubs category explicitly; that's done automatically by the fiction-stub template. Second, the characters categories might be appropriate if you wrote an article about a character from a novel, but not for the novel itself. Other than that, looking pretty good. We appreciate your contributions. --[[User:Mwalimu|mwalimu]] 04:45, 18 September 2006 (UTC)

:She did it because it wasn't in the right ordering for works with "The" at the front. I have solved this by editing [[:Template:fiction-stub]] so that you can add a parameter to specify the category sorting, like this: <nowiki>{{fiction-stub|Magic, The Gathering}}</nowiki> --[[User:GreenReaper|GreenReaper]]([[User talk:GreenReaper|talk]]) 05:49, 18 September 2006 (UTC)

== fiction-stub reclassification ==

== Legal threats ==
From my reading of it, FurCon's Press policy does not apply to WikiFur; this is an encyclopedia, not a news site. That strikes me as akin to [[Wikipedia:Wikipedia:No legal threats|making a legal threat]], to be honest. [[User:CarlFox|Carl Fox]] 04:52, 30 Sep 2005 (UTC)

:Things were made somewhat more explicit on IRC. I'm not particularly worried about the possibility, as I'm fairly sure no law is even close to being broken, and if push really comes to shove, I have some money. What depresses me is how the threats were made ''before'' talking it out on the talk pages. I am not used to the concept of threatening to send out a cease and desist as the first response when people do something you don't want. Given the person's background in having to prosecute cases of piracy of their work, perhaps it is ''partially'' understandable, but still . . .
::It's all part of "teh drama", as the hip kids refer to it. Most threats to sue in fandom are an attempt to intimidate; most fen can't afford to deal with a lawsuit, after all. Awfully immature of the gent to threaten to sue before talking it out, in my opinion. [[User:CarlFox|Carl Fox]] 05:44, 30 Sep 2005 (UTC)
Guardian Knights is not a "furry" comic. The project does not meet the requirements of being "furry". They are human shapeshifters, not animal based humanoids. After receiving so much harassment about the project from the fans in fur fandom for the humans and my refusal to change the Kynae into animal based humanoids, I really do not want the mention. I would hope you would understand why I wish the removal. Please...remove the entry.
Any general guideline, or just go with what sounds right? [[User:CarlFox|Carl Fox]] 05:36, 27 Sep 2005 (UTC)

:I'd say you've pretty much got it there - if there's obviously a lotn more that "needs" to be said, but you can't say it, or don't have time to right now, it's a stub. Maybe a section stub, although we don't exactly have those yet. --{{UT|GreenReaper}} 06:25, 27 Sep 2005 (UTC)
== Legal threats ==

. . .

Given the person's background in having to prosecute cases of piracy of their work, perhaps it is ''partially'' understandable, but still . . .

:Wikipedia apparently gets legal threats every week. I knew we might have "problems" when I founded WikiFur, but I had hoped we would be able to go for three months without one. :-p --{{UT|GreenReaper}} 05:29, 30 Sep 2005 (UTC)

== Welcome to [[WikiFur:Administrators]]! ==

You may notice a few new tabs along the top, and some other changes around the site in relation to user blocking, rollbacks and the like. I suggest you look over [[Wikipedia:Wikipedia:Administrators|this page]] if you're not familiar with how to use them. Hopefully you won't need them much, but they're there for when you do. Use them wisely! :-) --{{UT|GreenReaper}} 01:22, 20 Oct 2005 (UTC)

I have moved this discussion to [[Talk:The Bunnyhaven#Re: The Bunnyhaven|Talk:The Bunnyhaven]]. Whether or not a page is removed, the talk page should remain the appropriate place to talk about unless there's an overriding reason not to. --{{UT|GreenReaper}} 16:00, 9 Dec 2005 (UTC)
:Understood. Thanks for the clarification. [[User:CarlFox|Carl Fox]] 03:46, 10 Dec 2005 (UTC)

== Please remove... ==

I was sent an email about an entry in Wikifur on my husband, Dean Graf. This entry also mentioned my comic, Guardian Knights.

Please remove the entry on Dean. He is no longer in or of any part of the fur fandom having removed himself as I did when we left the fandom years ago.

Please remove the entry pertaining to Guardian Knights, and any other entries which mention our names. We do not wish to be involved in any way with fur fandom and its projects.

Thank you in advance.

--L.Graf

:Per your request, I've removed Dean's entry and locked it to further editing.

:However, I'm going to leave the [[Guardian Knights]] entry up, for now. Per [[WikiFur:Personal exclusion|our policy on personal exclusion]], the policy is restricted to information '''about''' you, and does not prevent other pages ''mentioning'' you in passing. I would consider the noting of a comic's writer and artist to fall in the "mentioning" category. [[User:CarlFox|Carl Fox]] 04:00, 23 May 2006 (UTC)

On this page is stated, in bold letters and caps, that copyrighted work is not to be submitted without permission. I did not give permission for the article to be written. I own the copyright to GK. As the holder of the copyright I am requesting removal. And yes, I do have certification of copyright from the Copyright Office.

I really do not wish to be a part of Wikifur in ANY way at all. I want nothing at all to do with fur fandom.

:I added my comments to this over on [[Talk:Guardian Knights]]. --[[User:Dmuth|Giza]] 13:22, 23 May 2006 (UTC)
