'''Toading''' (an equivalent in [[IRC]] speak is a [[kickban]] or [[akill]]) is the process of termination of [[character]]'s access to a muck. The character is converted into an [[object]] that can later be [[recycled]]; this process removes the character's ability to login.

It is called such historically in reference to [[Wizard|wizards]] turning people into toads, and has been in various [[TinyMUCK]]s and [[MUD]]s since the early 90s. This is also reflected, for example, in [[FuzzBall]]'s @toad success message: "You turned <name> into a slimy toad!"

Users can be toaded for several reasons:
* By user request. Typically users who no longer plan on visiting the MUD or are quitting due to disagreements will request a toading.
* By inactive purges. In order to reduce the size of the database, users may be toaded over an extended period of inactivity time determined by the MUD administration.
* By abusive actions on the part of the players, not limited to violations of the MUD's [[policies]].

Sprinkles and Bottom founded HLM in the summer of 2002 when they were banned from [[Tapestries]] for diaper play. Despite the two having been pivotal in the creation of the [[BabyFur]] lifestyle, the lifestyle is rarely practiced on HLM. From 2003 to 2004, a third wizard [[Chuckles]] was present, whose career was marked with unpopular decisions, exile and finally ending in [[Amway]] and [[alcoholism]].

HLM MUCK is especially active on Wet Tuesday and Friday Dressup nights. Every wednesday is the annual ''[[Ennui Cookout]]'', where the residents sit and reflect upon which biscuit, usually baked fresh that day by Sprinkles, best represents their dissatisfaction with life.

During a colocation move, HLM MUCK became the first MUCK to be hosted on a Microsoft [[Wikipedia:Xbox|Xbox]], through a custom Debian Lunux port. There was a brief downtime when Sprinkles decided to play [[Wikipedia:Halo (video game series)|Halo]], and the timestamped log to the right is an actual log dump from the event.

Since these early days, HLM has moved to a colocated machine. Many of the MUCK users also hold accounts on the MUCK server, each contributing to the cost of the machine's upkeep, and many running interesting projects of their own. Two such projects are [[Fisk]]'s [[Better Days]] comic site, and a-user-who-I-don't-know-if-they-want-to-be-named's [[AJAX]]-based [[Second Life]] mapping service.
