'''Vulpine''' is the scientific term for. The word comes from the Latin ''Vulpes'', which is also the name of the genus that many fox species belong to.

Foxes, while places in the same family as most canines, are not really dogs in terms of anatomy. The reason for this classification is because in ge<math>netic terms, they are in the canid family. Biologically, however, some fox sub-spe</math>cies have small bodies which can get about as small as a normal house cat. They are also the only canid species to have semi-retractable claws.

In England, a tradition was made to hunt foxes for sport. This practice had led to the endangerment of a few species of Fox, while in other parts of the world many other sub-species have become endagered as well from de

forestation and development into the fox's natural habitats. This has forced Foxes to become scavengers, wandering into cities and towns looking for their next meals where they are eith

er killed by cars, attacked by local feral dogs, or shot by farmers for killing livestock. Not all foxes a
== re scavengers, however; they are only forced into this act due to the activities of humans spreading and replacing their habitats with buildings and roads. Other dangers to their continued existance include poaching, the former trend of hunting them for their beautiful pelts (which is now illegal in the United States), and pollution.

In recent years, a Russian research labratory has been selectively breeding foxes as an experiment to see if they can be domesitcated. Their research was based on the theory that if they bred the most friendly foxes (friendly being their attitude toward humans), the disposition would carry over and increase in st
== rength. Recently, their research has come to a high point when they managed to breed a very tame and friendly litter of foxes. However, they disclaim that foxes would make good housepets as they still carry a rather noticeable arm ==
oa around them which can permeate one's house, and their playfulness can be destructive. There were also notes that raising a fox from birth would, like most wild animals, not work due to their instincts eventually overriding any bond that may form with a human. The researches say that maybe in time they can breed the perfect fox for household domestication, but that is a long way off and is likely to involve sensitive matters.

As far as furries go, the Fox is one of the more common species. ''[[West Corner of the Park]]'' bases many of its running gags around the supp
