Wild Nights

2009-08-13T12:26:10Z

203.217.29.7:

Wild Nights is a furry convention that was first held from Thursday April 23 to Monday April 27, 2009 in Robbers Cave State Park in East Oklahoma, U.S.A. Wild Nights is a predominantly outdoor convention similar to that of Camp Feral and Oklacon. It will next be held April 22 to 26, 2010, at the Robbers Cave State Park.

The Guest of Honor for 2009 was furry artist Baka Sukonku. The Guests of Honor for 2010 are Crys the Hybrid and Tzup There were eight acts in the variety show, and the event ran a surplus of $800 to put towards the next year.

Features
Wild Nights, is a predominantly outdoor convention complete with outdoor games such as swimming, volleyball, a "Predator & Prey" type game," basketball, and a variety show. It also features a Dealer's Den and a handful of events suitable for fursuiters. Lodging consists of cabins holding up to 12 to 32 attendees at a time in one big area. There are other lodging options for those that want extra privacy, but there are not included in the registration prices.

Registration includes three membership levels: a $40 basic membership, which includes lodging and 6-8 free meals; an $80 sponsorship, which adds a free t-shirt and a free print from the guest of honor; and a $160 super sponsorship, which adds a free gourmet meal, a free custom badge from the guest of honor, preferred seating at performance events, refrigerator space, and half-price concessions. Registration at the door will be $55. These prices are considered cheaper and more benfical then traditional hotel conventions.

Staff
Wild Nights is operated by the Missouri Exotic Species Arts Association, a member-run not-for-profit (501(c)(7)) organization run by Travis.

* Travis, MESA President, Head Chef
* Heros, MESA Secretary, A/V Coordinator, Head DJ
* Wolfwings, MESA Treasurer, Webmaster
* Pistolpup, MESA Vice President, Wild Nights Events Coordinator
* RJ Fox, Wild Nights Security Chief
* Drake Otter, Wild Nights Volunteer Coordinator

About the Convention
Wild Nights was oringally intended to be held at Lake of the Ozarks State Park in Central Missouri of the same dates. When the staff applied to use the park for the dates however, their application was denied by the Missouri Department of State Parks. Their reasoning was of concerns about "sexually explicit material" that might be accessed to minors during that period despite Wild Nights clause to ensure that any adult matrial wont be seen by anyone under 18.

After discussing several options, it was ultimately decided to move the event to Robbers Cave State Park in Oklahoma where it was still held on April 23-27. There were concerns that some might view it as an attempt to compete with nearby Oklacon; but the park located added a lot of pros and could be used on those dates. More detailed information regarding the location may be found on the convention's official website.
