FA: United
Headed by Shy Matsi, the Northeast Anthropomorphic Association (a non-profit 501(c)7 based in New Jersey) partnered with Fur Affinity began planning for a new convention in the New Jersey region in 2005 following Anthrocon's announced move from Philadelphia, PA to Pittsburgh.

The convention was held August 10-12th, 2007 at the Ramada Newark Airport International (now Wyndham Garden Hotel Newark Airport) in Newark, New Jersey..

* Attendance: 310
* Fursuit parade count: 25
* Guests of Honor: Blotch and Roxikat
* Charity: $1,600 to the Lakota Wolf Preserve
* Featured bands: The Gay Blades, Sikamor Rooney, Zsa Zsa Gabortion and the Back Alley McBeals (led by staff member Sox Pup)

Notes:

* More "founding member" sponsorships were purchased than regular sponsorships. "Founding Members" received a free, limited-edition "Fur Affinity" USB flash drive.
* Cake was the first active fursuit at FA: United.
* The con bag handed out at registration contained "FA Bucks," gift certificates which could be redeemed in the Dealer's Room or convention store for cash.
* All bands performed for free on the condition drinks would be on the house. fact

2009
Due to financial issues, partly because of the ongoing economic recession, a standard size convention would not be feasible. This was to be compromised, however, with a "weekend party/cook out with music, booze and more" furmeet (which was considerably cheaper), to be held at the Pine Creek Miniature Golf course in Ringoes, NJ. This was given the codename "FA: United 2.5" to bridge the gap between FAU2 and 3. But thanks to unfavorable weather conditions, scheduling problems, and disagreements FA: United 2.5 ultimately did not get off the ground, and thus 2009 was left without any organized activity for FA:U.

2016 Move
The convention moved from its home in North New Jersey to North Virginia, due to Dragoneer moving to the Northern Virginia area.

Cancellation
On December 2, 2020, citing pressures from the COVID-19 pandemic, Dragoneer tweeted a message "formally announcing FA United is closing its doors."

The webpage of FA:U has been configured to display this announcement as well.

Organization
In recentwhen years the convention has shifted from being operated by FA United LLC (A limited liability company in the state of New Jersey (filing no. 0600336301)) to being operated by Ferrox Art LLC, who owns and hosts Fur Affinity. This change has been reflected on the convention's website and legal forms.

Brasil FurFest, or BFF, is the first hotel-based furry convention to happen in Brazil. It was first held over September 9-11, 2016 at Mercure Santos Hotel, in the city of Santos, Brazil..

The latest edition of Brasil FurFest was held August 23-25, 2019 and received 571 attendees from 8 countries.

Next iteration is scheduled to be held from July 16 to 18, 2021 at the same place. Brasil FurFest is a member of the FLEF, group of Brazilian furry events. The convention's slogan is "Amigos para Sempre" (English: "Friends Forever").

Brasil FurFest

Furboliche (São Paulo's Furry bowling event) founders had the idea of organizing a furry convention in Santos back in 2014.
Proposed name was "Confursão" (abbreviation for Convenção Furry de São Paulo, Portuguese for São Paulo's Furry Convention).
Due to lack of experience, they decided to postpone the convention and started Furboliche instead, to acquire know-how and to understand the dynamics of local furry fandom.

After Brazil's camping-based furry convention Abando announced 2016 would be its last year, the staff of Furboliche decided to review their plans. They announced they would start a hotel-based furry convention, to prevent Brazil from lacking any multi-day events.
Proposed name "Confursão" was withdrawn and it was replaced by "Brasil FurFest" to avoid similarities with a famous furry room in anime cons called "Confuria".

Official announcement of Brasil FurFest was done on February 13th, 2016, at Furboliche 5 event. Before traditional fursuit raffle, the staff showed BFF's logo and announced the convention would start as a crowdfunding with a goal of R$ 6,000 (around US$ 1,500) for the basic costs of renting conference rooms and producing conbook, badges and other stuff. Further goals for crowdfunding campaign were later presented for adding more conference rooms or renting party bus in case of bigger donations.
Videos and pictures of the location were presented in the several screens of the Bowling Place and all Furboliche staff members were using buttons with Brasil FurFest logo. Before the announcement, a Facebook page was made and teaser videos in Portuguese, Spanish and English were published.

First crowdfunding goal of Brasil FurFest was reached in barely 13 days. In an official announcement on the social networks, the staff of the convention confirmed the event for the proposed dates. At the end of crowdfunding campaign, all additional goals (that introduced more structure, rooms and activities to the con) were reached and R$ 15,390 (approx. US$ 3,850) were pledged. After the end of the crowdfunding, regular sales of tickets stated at the convention's website.

In April 24th, 2016, BFF's staff announced the theme for the event: "Peludos em Santos" (Furries in Santos) - a joke with the name of a very famous Brazilian Rock song called "Pelados in Santos" (Naked in Santos). Guests of honor were announced in the same day.

Brasil FurFest 2016 happened as planned in Mercure Santos Hotel and gathered 169 furries (among them 54 fursuiters) from 5 countries (Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Paraguay and USA) setting a new milestone for the furry fandom in Brazil: to have a hotel-based furry convention in Brazil with panels, workshops, dealer's den, artist's alley, fursuit parade , fursuit games and parties. Brasil FurFest was also the first furry event in Brazil to have a charity campaign, helping street animals from the city of Santos.

Second year of the convention had several improvements compared to the first year from logistics to organization. BFF 2017 started on friday night with the opening ceremony and the night rave, and for the first time Charity Auction was made to boost donations to the charity campaign. Brasil FurFest 2017 recevied 287 furries from 9 countries, surpassing Furboliche as the biggest furry event in Latin America at the time.

The growth of the event was important to boom the anthropomorphic culture in Brazil and in South America. In the first three years, the number of attendees increased near to 3 times, bringing together furries from almost all states of Brazil and from 11 countries in total (Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, United States, Germany and Scotland)

In the 2018 edition of Brasil FurFest had the largest audience recorded by the event gathering 431 furries from 8 countries, a 50% increase over the previous year. The charity campaign set the record for the event and grossed R$ 12,359.45 (US$ 3,160.90), earning nearly five times more than in 2017. The fursuit parade also reached its highest number with 115 fursuiters. BFF 2018 was also first edition to have an cellphone (Android) app with schedule, maps and other relevant information about the event and the first year to have the flag of Megaplex at the Main Events Room, representing the sister con partnership both conventions started in 2018.

During closing ceremony of Brasil FurFest 2018, the staff of Furcamp, a new Brazilian camping con that happened for the first time in March 2019, introduced the event to the public. Just after Furcamp's presentation, Brasil FurFest team revealed its new slogan: "Friends Forever".

Brasil FurFest celebrated it's 4th iterarion featuring a urban theme called Furtropolis, a furry city in Brazil. The event gathered 571 Furries from 8 countries. BFF 2019 featured first Foxes and Peppers show ever to happen in Latin America. Fursuit Parade was not held for the first time due to bad weather. During the closing ceremony it was announced that Brasil FurFest 2020 would have "A Haunted Hotel" as theme and Uncle Kage as guest of honor.

Due to the Novel Coronavirus pandemic, Brasil FurFest staff announced in May 2020 that they were going to postpone the convention. Next BFF is scheduled to happen again at Mercure Santos Hotel from July 16th to 18th, 2021.

2010 Ursa Major Awards

2020-01-20T00:00:26Z

The 2010 Ursa Major Awards was an awards ceremony for the best of anthropomorphically-oriented media published throughout 2010. The winners were announced at Morphicon 2011 in Columbus, Ohio on May 13, 2011.

Nominations for the 2010 Ursa Major Awards were opened from February 2 to 28, 2011, and voting for the nominations ran from March 13 to April 27. Nominators could suggest up to five works in each category.

Location
The 2010 Awards ceremony marks the first time in the ceremony's history since Confurence 2003 (where the event was held from 2001-2003) that it has been held at a previously-used convention location, as the 2007 ceremony was held at Morphicon 2008.

The awards ceremony is typically held at a different convention in a different region of North America each May, but five conventions then scheduled for May-June 2011 - Anthrocon, Rocket City Fur Meet, Califur, Morphicon and FA: United - have hosted the Ursa Major Awards ceremony in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2009 and 2010 respectively. This increased the likelihood of the ceremony either:

* being held again at one of the aforementioned venues

* being held at a newer convention, such as NakamaCon or What The Fur

* being held at a non-convention venue, such as Elliot's Live Events

* being held again at a non-furry convention, such as DucKon

* being held outside of North America at venues such as ConFuzzled or ZodiaCon

* being held at a later time of the year.

Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH

Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH is a novel by Robert C. O’Brien (pseudonym of Robert Conly), published by Atheneum in April 1971. The story revolves around that of a widowed mouse named Mrs. Frisby and her interactions with highly intelligent rats who escaped from experiments by the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH). The book involves the themes of friendship and courage, and also alludes to the immorality of experimentation done on non-human animals.

Two sequels, Racso and the Rats of NIMH and R.T, Margaret, and the Rats of NIMH were written by O'Brien's daughter Jane Leslie Conly.

The novel was filmed as an animated feature, The Secret of NIMH, by Don Bluth in July 1982. Mrs. Frisby was renamed Mrs. Brisby because of a threatened lawsuit for copyright and trademark violation by the Wham-O company, manufacturers of the Frisbee toy. The movie was criticized for this and other plot changes, especially the change of "the secret" from a science-fictional cause to magic and wizardry.

Tracy J. Butler (born August 3, 1980 in Springfield, Massachusetts, USA), is a 2D and 3D artist. She is the creator of the webcomic Lackadaisy.

Biography
She studied biology for a year at Our Lady of the Elms College in Massachusetts, before returning to her art. She created a website with some of her work, which led to a job offer from Simutronics, a Missouri game development company.

Tracy performed illustration and graphic design work before moving into 3D character design and animation. After living in St. Louis for some time, she purchased a 100-year-old house, and began researching its history, as well as that of the local neighborhood, and ultimately the history of St. Louis itself. Combined with her interest in jazz music, plus the characters she had designed in school, this led her to create the Lackadaisy series in July 2006.

An Italian print version of Lackadaisy was released in 2008, with an English version in 2009.

Fandom involvement
Tracy Butler was a guest of honor at Furry Connection North 2009. Despite creating a fair amount of anthropomorphic work of furry interest, she prefers to not consider herself a furry artist.
