The '''HantsFurs''' is the name given to a regional [[furry]] group centered around the county of [[wikipedia:Hampshire|Hampshire]], UK. The majority of HantsFurs members reside in either [[Wikipedia:Southampton|Southampton]] or [[Wikipedia:Portsmouth|Portsmouth]], two major cities in the area, though the number of members in other large towns such as [[Wikipedia:Basingstoke|Basingstoke]] are growing. [[Furmeet]]s used to to be organized through the group's mailing list and forum, although the [[UKFur]] forums are currently more commonly used. Meets are much more sporadic than those other groups in the UK, with [[mini-meet]]s being more common.

The group was officially founded by [[SlyCat]] in March 2000 by creating the mailing list due to the increasing number of furs in the area, however the list is now currently owned by [[TK Tiger]]. As of August 2009, the group has over 120 subscribed members and is always looking for more furs in the local and surrounding areas.

==Southampton==
Since [[Slycat]] took a break from organising these at the start of 2010, larger meets were replaced by smaller, more informal "Fursday" mini-meets every Thursday. These eventually became incredibly popular despite being on a week day. In September the Fursday meets moved to weekends and now occur fortnightly, arranged by [[Stokes]] and [[Wrathwolf]].

==Portsmouth==
[[NamuGriff]] temporarily took over organising the Portsmouth meets, but resigned from this post in May 2010. Currently, no meets are planned.

==Basingstoke==
Basingstoke meets started in November 2009, organised by [[Red Russell]] and [[Rikka Hyou]], attracting around 20 attendees. Meetings then took place on an (approximately) bi-monthly basis until May 2010, when there was a temporary hiatus due to Red Russell moving and changing jobs.

Organisation of the meets was then handled by [[Rikka Hyou]] and [[Snowdog]]. [[EmberOfThePhoenix]] then joined the team of organisers after the meet in September. She is also the person who posts the meets on [[UKFur]]. The meets are now going to be held once every Three weeks in rotation around the Southampton furmeets for the foreseeable future.

==Bournemouth==
Once a year, a trip to Bournemouth is organised for the group. [[Blaster_Hedgie|Blaster Hedgie]] has been in charge of organising the Bournemouth meets since 2007, though this has not been an official responsibility. Hedgie (as he is more widely known) has also taken to the task of organising the yearly Halloween and Christmas meets from 2007 to date. Hedgie was made a moderator of the HantsFurs Mailing List in October 2005.

'''UKFur.org''' (originally UKFur.net) is the most popular [[:Category:United Kingdom|UK]] centric [[furry]] website on the internet with an excess of 2,000 members. It is intended as a friendly forum where adult members of the community can meet likeminded individuals as well as facilitating the arrangements of meets; however, it is strictly not a dating site.

The main area of the site has been under redevelopment since 2004, however the forums are still highly active. The site carries a 16+ age rating<ref name="board_rules">The UKFur Forum Rules - http://forum.ukfur.org/index.php?act=boardrules</ref>. Adult material is strictly prohibited in the AUP.

The site has been targeted a number of times by researchers for furry related documentaries, most notably a documentary producer for [[wikipedia:Channel 4|Channel 4]], as reported in the first edition of [[The Furtean Times]]. A large number of forum-goers were also featured in the [[Bizarre magazine]] article on the furry fandom.

The site provides web hosting and email; however, this service is no longer advertised.

In mid-2008 UKFur started to add forums for specific subsections of the fandom, so they could discuss events and topics without the fear of the public or other forum members finding out. As of July 2008, two such forums exist: for [[babyfurs]] and [[fatfurs]].

== Oekaki Board ==

The UKFur [[Oekaki]] Board was set up in early 2008, as a place where British furries could show off their skills. It is run by [[Articuno]] and [[HelenBaby]]. So far it has proven to be pretty popular. There has even been a competition, in honour of Easter 2008, of which [[ShaoShao]], [[Kepe]] and [[Jess]] were the winners.
