Endtown is a science fiction webcomic of furry interest created by artist Aaron Neathery.

Premise
It's the end of civilization as we know it. A pandemic of a mutagenic virus followed by a global war fought with disintegration weaponry has left much of the planet Earth a desert of fine powder and what remains of humanity fragmented into humans, animal-like mutants and bloodthirsty monstrosities with lots of teeth.

The surface, still teeming with the mutagenic agent, has become the domain of the Topsiders; well-organized, technologically advanced, and heavily armed un-mutated humans intent on exterminating mutations of any kind in order to clear the way for the eventual resurgence of a new, genetically clean humanity.

Faced with annihilation, mutants and "impure" humans have retreated to various types of shelters to form communities and hope to win, or at least survive, what may prove to be mankind's final war.

Endtown is the continuing story of one of those communities.

Backstory
In the near future, conflicts between various countries results in all of them launching a variety of weapons at each other all at once. The resulting unpredictable combination of side effects wiped out the majority of the population and turned most of the Earth's surface into a wasteland. The survivors were divided up into roughly two groups: those who became mutants (or were immune to mutations), and those not yet exposed to the mutagen. The first group, collectively known as "mutants", either roam the surface raiding city ruins for food, or live in survival bunkers. One such bunker, located a mile underground, is Endtown. The second group are the "Topsiders", highly prejudiced "pure humans" who live in an undisclosed location(s) and hunt mutants with the goal of ridding the planet of them. The Endtown story revolves around one group of mutants attempting to survive under these conditions.

The Endtowners, as they call themselves, spend most of their time in the underground city, with occasional forays to the surface to scavenge for food. Because of the effects of the post-War radiation, most protein-based foods have turned to dust, leaving only those items still in cans. At the time in which the story is set, six years after The End, cans of beans are all that remains in the ruins reachable by foot. Endtowners only have a synthetic "vitamin cake" and beans to live on. The lack of variety in their diet drives many of the Endtowners to desperation.

The mutagenics' effects do follow clear rules described by the author, though from the outside the effects appear unpredictable. Humans are often turned into monsters, though the luckier ones can become animals. Species shown so far include a Rhinoceros, several breeds of cats, mice, crabs, fish, dogs, cows and at least one worm. The more bizarre but benign mutations include a hunchback with a fish head that falls off (and presumably grows back), and the Oracle, a precognitive pool of water. There is a series of canals in Endtown to support the water supply and sewage carry-away, as well as providing the aquatic species a place to live. On the surface of the planet, the Topsiders wear sealed suits to protect them from the tainted atmosphere. If the suit is damaged, the victim begins to mutate within seconds.

In the story, Endtown is described as a form of commune where the inhabitants provide various services in return for housing and food. Most services are along the lines of working at a cafe, or acting as a doctor, police officer or main entrance gate security. Greater rewards are offered for Topside scavenging missions, but the odds of not surviving one of these missions is very high.

Topsiders hunt mutants as part of their eugenics campaign for two known reasons: to eliminate them from the planet and to put their brains into machines such as the transport vehicles, blaster guns, and robot tracking devices called "Multi-Use Terrestrial Trackers" (AKA: "mutts").

Weapon types
Although the warring countries at The End used many different kinds of weapons, only two have been described in the story so far.

Amesworth Radiation, a form of radiation harnessed by the inventor Sam Sanders for Apex Industries. Amesworth radiation is used in ray guns and disintegration beamers. As mentioned in the comic, if the radiation is strong enough it will disintegrate anything. At lower levels it only affects organic matter. (Twinkies are thus identified as inorganic). It is named after its discoverer - Dr. Eden Amesworth, who Sanders may have actually met at one time.

The Mutagenic Virus has not been explained in any detail so far and may not actually be a virus. This is the thing that turns humans into mutants, and is present throughout the planet. Generally it is referred as "the mutagens". It's questionable as to whether the mutagens were initially intended as a weapon, or if it was accidentally leaked from somewhere. If a human is unconscious when exposed to the mutagens, they turn into an anthro. If awake, they morph into a monster.

Monster types
So far, monsters have ranged from what appear to be pools of goo, to things like a big octopus and really large hungry shapes. To date, only one type of monster has been identified by name.

Dittos or pixel monsters are microscopic creatures that act like semi-intelligent monitor pixels. When millions of them work together, they are capable of displaying any image they want as either an illusion, a mirage or a hallucination. Images can be of other monsters, vehicles, people or of simple, vast open space. As shown in the Gustine quest arc, dittos live in "nests", and are susceptible to raygun blasts. As shown in the flashback sequence with Sparkplug Sanders, dittos can read people's memories and play them back in full 3-D. So far, they have not demonstrated the ability to produce sound. Topsider Personnel Transporters identify them as "vermin" and have protection systems in place for killing them.

Locations
So far, the Endown story has taken place primarily around the Endtown bunker, meaning that little is known about the rest of the planet. There are essentially 5 locations or entities that have been highlighted as of April 4, 2012.

Endtown is one of many mutant outposts that have sprung up following The End. It is a bunker 1 mile underground, with at least one entrance elevator somewhere in the unmarked Great Waste.

The Great Waste (AKA: Topside.) These are the dust-filled barren lands that cover the planet, at least in the area around Endtown. "Topside" is the term used by Endtowners to distinguish activities outside of the bunker. We have not yet been told what the Topsiders call themselves, or what they call the areas outside of their own colonies. There are various ruins scattered across The Great Waste containing intact buildings and/or roads.

Hillside was actually one large country sprawling across this part of the continent. Endtown is located within the Hillside boundaries. When the number of spontaneous mutations started escalating, all warring countries accused the others of being the source cause and launched their weapons at each other, triggering The End. Sparkplug Sanders was living in one of the suburbs of Hillside that had remained relatively intact after The End. The 2010-01-21 strip shows that one of Hillside's opponents was the Eastern Alliance.

Bordavia was a warzone neighboring Hillside. Wally Wallechinsky was an engineer working for Apex Industries stationed in Bordavia prior to The End, helping design new schools. He was also assigned as a soldier to patrol the area with other members of his group.

Apex Industries is a multinational conglomeration with factories in Hillside. Their logo was a triangle with a small circle inside, and their slogan was "Apex, making the world safe". Sparkplug Sanders worked for Apex as a researcher and was the one to harness Amesworth Radiation for use in blasters, disintegrators and Zero Bombs. Wally Wallenchinsky also worked for them as an engineer designing new schools in Bordavia. Apex drones fighting "rebels" then destroyed the school for Wally to rebuild. Apex also produced the large-scale disintegrators used at Pep Cola stadium for "cleansing" the sporadic mutations that surfaced in Hillside leading up to The End. The field suits used by Wally and his fellow soldiers in Bordavia are similar to those used now by Topsiders, and the Apex logo closely resembles that of the Topsiders' reversed triangle inside a large circle. Part of Sparkplug Sander's flashback takes place in the Apex offices in Hillside.

Characters
Topsiders
As of April, 2012, only five of the Topsiders have been identified by name - "Jim", "Ian", "Bill", "Doug" and "Linda" and four of the five didn't last long, Linda being the exception. Most of the named characters live in Endtown, while one was an inhabitant of a Topside city called Hillside, and another is a nomad bumming around in the Waste of the surface.

Humans
Albert Anderson, a tall, lean, lanky black-haired male. Al is one of the few people to have kept his human form after being exposed to the mutagen. He starts out as the main lead in the story, scavenging one of the ruins for food. He lives with Gustine, and is friends with Professor Mallard. Al is resourceful and a quick thinker.

Sam "Sparkplug" Sanders, formerly an engineer working for Apex Industries in Hillside. He's the one that realized that Amesworth Radiation had military capabilities. He also refused to proceed on the work any further and was removed from the project. He then focused on finding a way to make himself and his family immune to the radiation. Unfortunately, he was a little too late, having bombarded himself with some kind of energy just before his partner, Agnes, and their daughter, April, were mutated. He is shown having killed the monster Agnes had become, after she had eaten April. He's then essentially immortal following The End, living alone in Hillside, being tormented by the "dittos" which keep replaying his memories for him every night. Sparkplug is last seen falling from a building several hundred feet up and is presumably killed by the impact.

Petey is a brain that had been "wiped" and wired into a Topsider transport vehicle. Initially, he was pretty satisfied with being a truck. He was given his name by Al, derived from "Personnel Transport" (PT). He has virtually no memories of his past life, but he does at least recognize "Blackie", and was eventually put into Professor Mallard's robot to be taken to Endtown. He is currently insanely strong, and can fly using his "hat" and wheel "propellers". When told that Flask was going to wipe out an entire Topsider colony as a "gift" for him, Petey balks at the idea of killing young children and noncombatants, even if they are the enemy. Rather than bonding in any way with Flask, Petey has fallen in love with another Transport.

Aaron Marx has been described in email conversations with Neathery as being his Tom Bombadil character. So far, very little is known about Marx beyond that he travels in a ship dangling from a balloon, salvaging scrap from the surface. He can walk on air using "string theory", "has no need for sleep" and is able to exert control over dittos. He appears to be an unmutated human wearing 1800's formal wear and spats.

Mutants
Gustine Greene is a 700 pound rhinoceros suffering from schism syndrome. Because she has not yet adjusted to being a rhino with poor eyesight and little patience, Gustine consults an oracle for advice on how to turn back human. She is then given a quest to go to Hillside for the fruit of a plant that supposedly has mystic properties. At the end of the arc, she remains a rhino. In a flashback (2009-05-19 strip) she is shown to have been a short, stocky black woman prior to The End.

Professor Nikolai Xavier (N.X.) Mallard, Ph.D, a duck and the resident mad scientist responsible for keeping Endtown running and for creating the hand-cranked blasters used by the Endtowners to protect themselves Topside.

Capt. Philomena (Blackie) Flask. Flask is a large cat currently acting as the chief of Endtown security. She is ruthless, unforgiving, and driven by nightmares of her life prior to coming to Endtown. In the 01/18/12 strip, she is identified as the ex-chief architect of the Topsider's spy satellite rocket project, making her a former Topsider and engineer/scientist. She was killed by an exploding gun, and reawakened in an intermediate state where she was relocated by Marx in the 2012-8-16 strip. Flask revealed to Marx that Petey was formerly a mostly-human man who was being experimented upon by Topsiders before she secretly freed him; the two fell in love and she resolved to take off her biosuit (she had been disgusted of remaining a Topsider), joining Petey outside and allowing him to puncture her suit while she slept. When she woke and had taken off her helmet, Petey had disappeared, and Flask was found and taken captive by Topsiders who then tortured and surgically removed her tail. In response, she injected her captors with the Mutagenic virus, turning them into monsters while she escaped. She applied for the job of Endtown security chief, and she ultimately found Petey's brain, finding out that Petey had been taken captive by the Topsiders and stripped of his body (Neither her nor Petey's prior faces have been shown as of yet). After telling her story, Marx restores her tail and removes the "cancer" of her torture.

Jacob (Jake) Jackrabbit, a reporter for the Endtown newspaper, is also the leader of an anti-human association. His fear and loathing of humans (mutated or not) mirrors that of the Topsiders towards anthros. Jake holds "self-acceptance seminars" which are really recruiting sessions for his lynch mob. In Jake's association, changing one's last name to that of one's anthro type shows that you've come to terms with being an anthro.

Wally Wallechinsky is a cat suffering from schism syndrome living in the ruins Topside, with something of a deathwish. He tries to keep to himself, but is forced into coming to Endtown, where he gets jumped by two mutants desperate to get whatever food he brought from the surface. Hospitalized with a cerebral contusion, he is tended by Doc Chase and Holly, and relieved of his syndrome symptoms by Holly. The two of them fall in love. In a flashback starting with the March 28, 2012, strip, we learn that Wally had been an engineer with Apex, designing schools in the battle zone bordering Hillside, and that all Apex employees eventually carry a gun in the field as soldiers.

Holly Hollister, a 30-year old female mouse working as a waitress at an Endtown cafe. She unexpectedly finds herself being responsible for helping Wally after he gets hospitalized. Holly is a fast runner and fully adapted to her life as a mutant ("after having discovered the joys of Camembert"). She helps Wally adjust to being a cat, and the two of them fall in love. She then follows Wally Topside for the mission in the "Countdown" arc.

Linda Kowalski (team leader of Beta 51), the only Topsider so far to last more than 10 strips, first appears in "Countdown". Little is known about her personal life yet, other than that she has a son (living in Pine Valley, Dome 3). She had been partnered with "Doug", a 17-year-old Topsider that had been blasted by Flask. Flask then proceeded to attempt to torture her by puncturing a weak spot near the ear protector of her suit to turn her into a rampaging monster to kill. However Wally stunned Linda in time, allowing her to mutate, unconscious (thus supporting "Cooper's Rule" that unconscious people turn into anthros) into a koala. Linda was unaware that the rocket she and Doug were guarding was a fake.

Story arcs
A Fistful of Beans
Introduction to the universe of "Endtown". Al and a partner are topside raiding a store for supplies when the partner attempts to join the Topsider ranks, with fatal results. Al returns to Endtown by himself and must face the wrath of the mob for bringing back more beans. His friend Prof. Mallard has to step in to sell the Endtowners on the benefits of the hated legume.

Gustine's Quest
Gustine suffers from the fear that she will turn feral as a rampaging 700-pound rhino, and asks an oracle for advice. This results in her and her partner, Al, traveling to the ruins of Hillside City to obtain the fruit of a tree that can solve her problems. Along the way, they befriend Petey and run afoul of the pixel creatures (AKA: Dittos) that have been tormenting Sparkplug Sanders.

While fighting Sparkplug, Al needs to rescue Gustine and is killed in the process. Gustine then uses the fruit to save Al, and thus is satisfied in staying as she is. On the way back to Endtown, Gustine, Al and Petey are attacked by Topsiders. Petey is left behind, and Al and Gustine are set up to look like spies leading the Topsiders to Endtown.

This leads to an investigation by Capt. Flask intended to find the two as traitors. However, a second trip to the surface reunites Flask and Petey with the revelation that the two used to be partners before Petey was turned into a truck. The arc ends with Petey getting a new body, Al and Gustine being declared innocent, and Flask brooding on her sins.

The Ballad of Holly and Wally
Wally is a rambling man-cat satisfied with fending for himself in the wastes of Topside. An encounter with Topsiders changes his life and ultimately he is forced to enter Endtown, where he is jumped by two inhabitants hoping to steal any fresh food that he may be carrying. Left with a cerebral contusion, Wally is brought to a hospital by Holly, a mouse waitress who is the only one in Endtown willing to stand by his side. Wally is conflicted about being a human trapped in a cat body and Holly attempts to help him come to terms with his instincts. They find themselves attracted to each other at the end.

Countdown
The Topsiders build a rocket near Endtown to launch a spy satellite. Knowing that an "eye in the sky" would spell certain doom for the Endtowners, Security Chief Flask assembles a small suicide squad consisting of herself, Petey and wildcard Wally, to sabotage the rocket. However, things get complicated and Flask ends up hijacking a flying ship to crash it into the Topsider output instead.

Grimm (television series)

2012-11-25T00:32:25Z

174.102.3.200:

Grimm is a live action crime drama. The show premiered on NBC in the US in the fall of 2011. The show has been described as "a cop drama—with a twist... a dark and fantastical project about a world in which characters inspired by Grimms' Fairy Tales and exist", although the stories and characters inspiring the show are also drawn from other sources.

Synopsis
Homicide Detective Nick Burkhardt of the Portland Police Bureau learns he is descended from a line of "guardians" known as "Grimms", charged with keeping balance between humanity and the mythological human-animal like creatures (called Wesen, pronounced as "vessin") of the world. Throughout the episodes, he must battle against an assortment of dangerous creatures, with help from his friend Monroe (a wolf like creature who is a reformed), and his partner Detective Hank Griffin.

Characters
Nick Burkhardt
Nicholas Burkhardt, played by David Giuntoli, is the show's protagonist and titular Grimm. Nick is a homicide detective who discovers he is descended from a line of Grimms, hunters who fight supernatural forces. Even before his abilities manifested, Nick had an exceptional ability to make quick and accurate deductions about the motivations and pasts of individuals, which has now expressed itself as his ability to perceive the supernatural that nobody else can see. Nick had wanted to propose to his girlfriend, Juliette, for a while, although he felt that he would have to tell her about his life as a Grimm beforehand. Throughout the first season, Nick struggles to maintain balance with his normal life and his Grimm life, both tending to cross when he works cases that involve Wesen, the creatures of the Grimm world. As Nick dives deeper into his Grimm heritage, he begins to train with Monroe to use the weapons that his aunt Marie left behind, as well as increase his knowledge of the Wesen that are present in Portland. As of episode 19, Nick has successfully killed three Reapers, creatures sent out to kill Grimms (hence the Grimm Reaper title). He killed the first in defense of Marie, and the other two were killed in self-defense when they were sent to kill him by his lead suspect in a case. The latter two had their heads cut off and sent back home (with a note saying to send the best next time). In the season finale, Nick's worries about the scratch Juliette received from Adalind's cat forced him to reveal his Grimm heritage to her, causing Juliette to believe he has gone crazy. When bringing her to the trailer was not enough to convince her, they go to Monroe's house so that Nick can show her his Blutbad form, though before Monroe could show her, Juliette collapsed and was brought to the hospital. Rosalee discovers that Juliette is going through memory loss, and when Juliette wakes up it is revealed that the only thing she has forgotten is Nick. Nick, after believing for eighteen years that both of his parents died in a car crash, discovers in the first episode of season two that his mother is alive and well, but he is still unaware of her true motives and full agenda.

Hank Griffin
Hank Griffin, played by Russell Hornsby, is Nick's homicide partner who, like Juliette, was not aware that Nick is a Grimm until recently. He is somewhat sarcastic at times, and has gone through at least four marriages by the time the series begins, but is nevertheless still Nick's best friend in the human world. Throughout the season, Hank starts to notice the strange occurrences that have been happening in Portland, and even in some of the cases he works on them with Nick. He was even used by Adalind to get closer to Nick, by consuming a "love sick" potion that caused him to develop obsessive behavior towards her. In episode 21 (Season 1, Episode 21), he accidentally runs into a transformed Monroe, who was leading search dogs away from his friend. Combined with seeing their dead suspect change back into human form from an experimental drug, Hank begins to have nightmares and heightened paranoia when he is home, and is even seen falling asleep with a fire arm. In episode 25 (Season 2, Episode 3) in "Bad Moon Rising", Hank starts to doubt whether he can continue police work given his state of mind. When searching for the missing daughter of an old friend from high school, Hank learns his old friend is a Coyotl and Nick is a Grimm. After all is said and done, Hank tells Nick that he is comfortable now knowing the truth, reflecting that, while he may be crazy, at least there is someone else who is crazy too.

Juliette Silverton
Juliette Silverton, played by Bitsie Tulloch, is Nick's girlfriend, a veterinarian. She spent much of her childhood in Spain with her grandmother, and as a result is fluent in Castilian Spanish. She is currently unaware of Nick's duties as a Grimm. Although Marie suggested that Nick should leave Juliette for her safety, Nick has decided to stay with her. He postponed his original plans to propose to her while he explores his new life as a Grimm. However, in episode 16 (Season 1, Episode 16), Nick decided to propose to Juliette, only for her to turn him down due to her feeling as though he is hiding something from her. In episode 22 (Season 1, Episode 22), Juliette suffers a scratch while treating Adalind Schade's cat. When Nick reacts with horror, Juliette demands he tell her what's going on. Nick tries to explain by bring her to the trailer and then to Monroe, but Juliette falls unconscious and is taken to the hospital where she awakens with black eyes, her fate uncertain. She eventually awakens from her coma with a little help from a liquid made by Rosalee used as eye drops (made to try to stop any progressing memory loss, but not to actually wake her). Unfortunately due to a spell, while she remembers everything else about her life, all memories of Nick have been erased. She has also begun to develop an unusual attraction to Captain Renard due to his role in awakening her, but is fighting this attraction due to her complicated relationship with Nick.

Monroe
Monroe, played by Silas Weir Mitchell, is a Wider Blutbad who aids Nick with his cases. He is also a good friend of Nick's, even though he has some issues with Grimms since a Grimm killed his grandfather (although he acknowledges that the ancestor deserved it for butchering a village). Monroe at first did not know that there were any more Grimms left until he meets Nick. In the first season Monroe is attacked by the Reapers for assisting Nick in his cases. Nick tells Monroe that he won't ask for his help any more, but Monroe resolves to still help Nick, stating that he enjoys helping Nick disrupt the 'status quo' despite his occasional dissatisfaction with the demands Nick places on him. Monroe is knowledgeable about the supernatural creatures that Nick goes up against, serving as Nick's direct source of insight and information into the supernatural community whenever the second-hand knowledge that Nick acquires from his ancestors' books is inadequate, as well as assisting Nick when cases require Nick to rely on someone who knows about the threats he faces. He also helps Nick make contact with creatures that would avoid Nick due to his status as a Grimm. In episode 21 (Season 1, Episode 21), when Monroe's friend was injured and suffering from the side effects of an experimental drug, he takes his friend's jacket and make the search dogs chase him. While being chased in the forest, he is surrounded by the search dogs and transforms into his Blutbad form to scare them off, but runs into Hank when he heads back to his house. Because he "allowed" his changed form to be seen by normal beings, Hank was able to see it before he runs off. In the season finale, Nick brings Juliette over to Monroe's place so that he can change in front of her, to prove his Grimm heritage, but before Monroe could "allow" himself to be seen by her, Juliette collapses from the scratch made by Adalind's cat. Monroe is now exploring a relationship with Rosalee, although they are taking their time due to their pre-existing friendship. While running the Spice Shop, Monroe comes into contact with Sean Renard who is complaining of obsessive behavior. Monroe says he can make the compulsions go away, but he needs both Sean and the person he is obsessed with together. In (Season 2 Episode 11) he discovers that the obsession Sean has been fighting is for Juliette, which puts him in a very difficult and awkward situation.

Sean Renard
Captain Sean Renard, played by Sasha Roiz, is Nick's politically adept superior officer and a member of the creature community of unknown origin. Nick is totally unaware of his status and he seems to be a potential threat. In Last Grimm Standing, he is addressed as Your Highness, further implying that he belongs to royalty in the creature community. He is a prince connected to Royal Blood. He also references my canton, implying a leadership role, which is further shown when he appears to police and protect wesen engaging in illicit acts. He seems to want a return to the old ways. In episode 24 (Season 2, Episode 2), he consumed a potion that would make him pure of heart so that he could wake Juliette, wanting to keep her active so that he could ensure Nick's continued presence in his city. In episode 30 (Season 2, Episode 8), his brother, Eric, mentioned to Adalind that Sean Renard's mother was a Hexenbiest and that he is only half of a royal (hence one reason why Catherine Schade referred to him as a bastard). It is implied that Sean would have inherited Eric's position had he been legitimate. He has begun to develop a complicated attraction to Juliette due to his role in awakening her from the coma, but is attempting to resist it due to his artifical nature and because he is, in his own way, an honorable man.The most likely explanation is that seperating Juliette from Nick interferes with his plans for Nick. In fact he stated outright that he wanted to awaken Juliette because it served his purposes.

Wu
Sergeant Wu, played by Reggie Lee, is a policeman who works with Nick and Hank; he tends to do the 'grunt work' for them, running down facts and information. In episode 15 (Season 1, Episode 15), when Adalind gave Hank some hexed cookies, Wu ate one. This caused him to ingest things that were inedible, such as paper clips, for several more episodes. Finally in episode 17 (Season 1, Episode 17) Rosalee created a potion to save him.

Rosalee Calvert
Rosalee Calvert, played by Bree Turner, is a Fuchsbau and sister to Freddie, proprietor of the herb shop used as a front for the Geier organ trafficking business seen in "Organ Grinder". After Freddie's death in "Island of Dreams", Rosalee comes to Portland to sort out her brother's affairs and decides to stick around. Prior to her arrival in Portland she spent her earlier years trying to follow up her parents' profession as an apothecary, but didn't like the job, in spite of her aptitude for it. She became hooked on a highly-addictive Wesen-oriented drug street-named 'Jay' and left Portland to get clean. After deciding to keep her brother's shop running, Rosalee assists Nick and Monroe in their efforts by providing additional information and remedies to supernatural problems.
Rosalee shares a powerful connection with Monroe. In "Quill", they go on their first date and share their first kiss, after which Rosalee uncharacteristically attempts to seduce Monroe. This seduction attempt turns out to be the manifestation of a common symptom from the Wesen virus Rosalee had been exposed to during their date. After being cured, Rosalee and Monroe agree that the attraction between them was real, but decide to take it slow before becoming intimate with each other. She was first seen in episode 15 (Season 1, Episode 15).

Adalind Schade
Adalind Schade, played by Claire Coffee, is a Hexenbiest who seemed to be working for Renard, who gave her various tasks involving the supernatural world. In Episode 17 (Season 1, Episode 17), after ingesting Nick's blood, she becomes a completely normal human. Renard tells her that she is no longer useful to him since she is no longer a wesen. Although not a true Hexenbiest anymore, Adalind retains her knowledge and skill with potions; Nick now describes her as a witch. In Episode 22 (Season 1, Episode 22), she poisons Juliette by having a poisoned (or magicked) cat scratch her. Although Monroe and Rosalee are able to retrieve the cat, Nick finds that Adalind has vanished. Sometime later, Adalind resurfaced in Vienna to rendezvous with Eric Renard. It has been revealed that she will return to Portland.

List of characters in Housepets!

2010-08-12T05:00:54Z

174.102.3.200: /* Minor animal characters */

The following is a list of characters in the comic series Housepets!.
Main characters
spoiler
Peanut Butter Sandwich, a dog; tag: Bone
Not yet five years old (in human years), Peanut has a young, playful personality and an enthusiasm for games of all kinds. Good-natured and loyal, Peanut's youth is a boundless source of energy, but also makes him immature; he is somewhat socially awkward, and quick to cave to peer pressure. An artistic spirit, he is the creator of his own crudely drawn comic strip titled The Adventures of Spot (Superdog) about an invincible dog hero obviously based upon Superman. Despite his naiveté, Peanut is nonetheless intelligent and an avid reader, and can often be found with his nose in a book. Peanut is physically attracted to cats, a fact that has caused problems in his social life (as interspecies relationships are considered taboo). To further complicate matters, Peanut lives with Grape and has a strong crush on her. He recently confessed his feelings to her (although she had known about his crush for some time beforehand), and while the two of them are not romantically involved, they remain close, intimate friends.

Grape Jelly Sandwich, a cat; tag: Fish
Despite being younger than Peanut, Grape typically acts as his big sister; of the two of them, she is the more mature, level-headed, and laid-back. She is largely uninterested in the complex politics of the neighborhood dogs, preferring a simpler (and usually violent) approach to solving problems; when not in conflict with them, she spends most of her time taking catnaps or lazing around the house. She's a dedicated fan of Pridelands, a popular fantasy book series, and enjoys the taste of dog treats. Griffin always intended Grape to be female, although early strips give no indication of her gender one way or the other; her tomboyish attitude led to the general assumption that she was male. The truth would not come out until two months into the comic's run, when she revealed to an astonished (and smitten) Peanut that she was, in fact, a girl. As a kitten, Grape was rescued from an animal shelter by the Sandwiches after being abandoned by her original family, a painful experience that continues to affect her. Perhaps as a result of this earlier trauma, Grape is somewhat introverted, and has few companions other than Peanut himself, with whom she shares a unique, tight-knit friendship; when he expressed a desire to be more than "just friends" with her, she emphatically told him that they had always been something more than that.

Bino, tag: Diamond w/ engraved "B"
He is the de facto leader of the neighborhood dog club, The Good Ol' Dogs' Club, but only when Fido isn't around. Scheming, obnoxious, petty, and in Griffin's words, "downright mean", Bino is bitter about being constantly overshadowed by the more successful and more popular Fido, who is his older brother. He takes out his frustrations upon the other dogs in the neighborhood in order to make himself feel superior; however, Bino has a tendency not to think his schemes through, and they often end with him getting hurt.

Joey; tag: Diamond w/ engraved "J"
Bino and Fido's younger brother. The runt of his litter, he is often ignored. He copes with his isolation by often partaking in both tabletop and live-action roleplaying sessions, the latter in which he dresses like a cat. It was during one of these sessions that he met his live-in girlfriend, a mouse named Squeak. Like Peanut, Joey is an artist, although one of superior skill (much to Peanut's chagrin).

Fox; tag: Dog-tags
Fido's best friend and the most intelligent member of Bino's clique. He spends most of his alone time reading books. Fox was briefly abducted by PETA members who wanted to "set him free" from his life of bondage as a pet, but since his owner also happened to be a police officer, he was swiftly rescued. Fox expresses reservations about Bino's hostile behavior toward other dogs (such as picking on Peanut), but usually follows Bino's lead for the sake of their friendship. Recently took a liking to a new dog on the street named King.

Rex; tag: Skull
A brutish bulldog who acts as the muscle of Bino's group. All brawn and little brains, Rex has a fearsome reputation among the neighborhood pets, but his hobbies are mild-mannered; he is a discerning cook who secretly enjoys baking cookies and brewing coffee. His owner adopted him because he was supposed to be a great watchdog, but it turns out he's just great at picking out watches.

Maxwell; tag: Bell
Bino's housemate and Grape's boyfriend, identified by the distinctive, ragged bite mark in his right ear. Like Grape, he thinks poorly of the neighborhood dogs' complicated social structure and enjoys tormenting Bino about it. Quick-witted and snarky, Max has a reputation for being annoying, although he is friends with most of the other cats in the neighborhood. Although he was just as shocked as Peanut to discover that Grape was a girl, he was immediately attracted to her. Grape initially began dating Max out of fear that she was spending too much time around dogs, but later genuinely warmed up to him; the two of them share a mutual fondness for Pridelands.

Sasha; tag: Heart
A dog who has an on-again-off-again relationship with Bino depending upon her own flighty whims and his fluctuating standing among the neighborhood dogs. Although friendly and well-intentioned, Sasha is something of an airhead, and her mind has a tendency to wander. She also comes from a broken home; her owner is an abusive, beer-swilling woman-chaser who locks her out of the house as "punishment" for his own failure to find a date. According to Pete, Sasha is "protected", but he did not elaborate upon what this means. Evidence suggests that Sasha may be a savant, or at the very least, not as dim-witted as she lets on; when Bino gave her a piano as a Valentine's Day gift, she was not only able to mentally compose a piece for it within the span of a few minutes, but was also able to play the same piece flawlessly and without the aid of sheet music, despite having never owned a piano herself.

Daisy; tag: A Daisy
A black Labrador retriever who seems to be even more dense than Sasha. She appears in unexpected places, and so far, her only spoken line has been, "Hi, I'm Daisy!"

Fido Byron; tag: Diamond w/ an engraved "F"
Bino's older brother, a K-9 cop, and the "official" leader of the Good Ol' Dogs Club. Fido is the "top dog" in the neighborhood, a role model whom all the male dogs want to be like, and all the female dogs want to be with. Modest and well-spoken, Fido is more well-adjusted than either of his siblings, and even bristles at the hero worship the neighborhood dogs impart upon him. He is in love with Sabrina, one of the neighborhood cats, but must keep it a secret for the sake of both his flawless reputation and his position as community leader; although Peanut and Grape are aware of their relationship, their affair is not public knowledge.

Sabrina; tag: Ankh
A cat, and Fido's secret girlfriend. Despite being a member of a predator species and the most vicious subsection of pets in Babylon Gardens, Sabrina is exceptionally kind-hearted and gentle by nature, and refuses to do harm to anyone, even prey animals. When her owners task her to kill rodents or other feral pests, she smuggles them out to Fido, who safely relocates them out of his devotion to her. She lives with Tarot, though it is unknown if she has similar powers.

Spo
A feral mouse whom Sabrina gave to Fido for relocation. Though Spo makes off-color remarks and seems to be deliberately trying not to make friends, the opposite is true: he desperately wants a friend but lacks appropriate social skills. Fido eventually befriends Spo and "adopts" him, allowing the mouse to ride atop his head, even during police investigations; however, Spo possesses a sharp tongue, and sometimes has trouble keeping his mouth shut.

Tiger Arbelt; tag: Circle w/ an engraved "T"
A dog with an unfortunate name. When he was adopted as a pup, his owner was not aware that being named after a cat was socially disastrous for dogs. Being the target of constant heckling and ridicule by other dogs has led Tiger to become mentally and emotionally unstable; he is aggressive, paranoid, suffers from an eating disorder and bouts of depression, and has made death threats against Bino on more than one occasion.

Marvin Arbelt; tag: Circle w/ an engraved "M"
Tiger’s feline housemate, who is more patient and understanding with Tiger than the dogs. Griffin modeled the dynamic between Marvin, Tiger and their owner after characters from Jim Davis's Garfield.

Zach Arbelt; tag: Circle w/ an engraved "Z"
The newest member of the Arbelt family. Zach was a gift from Tiger's aunt, and has trouble fitting in with the eccentric family, a problem which isn't helped by Tiger's erratic behavior. Zach briefly runs away from home to live among the ferals in the woods; while there, he accidentally breaks the seal on Pete's prison, an act for which the woodland animals revere him as "The Opener of Ways" (a title that Zach doesn't particularly want).

The Milton Ferrets; tag: A Red Bar
Keene, Lana, Duke, Pit, Rock, and Simon are the beloved pet ferrets of Henry Milton, the late founder of Babylon Gardens. After Henry passed away they inherited a great deal of his estate and fortune, much to the displeasure of his other relatives. Named after characters from the Captain N cartoon series.

Tarot; tag: An Eye of Ra
A Pomeranian who mysteriously appeared to comfort a heartbroken Peanut after Grape began dating Maxwell. Tarot is a powerful psychic medium who can summon spirits, cause telekinetic phenomena, use mental projections on other people's minds (to create a very realistic illusion), communicate telepathically, and foresee the future; her eyes glow a bright green when her powers are in use. Apart from Pete, she is the only character who knows that King is really human.

King; tag: Chess Piece
Formerly a human (see Joel in the humans section), King was turned into a dog (Pembroke Welsh Corgi) by the extradimensional entity Pete, ostensibly to "teach him a lesson". He ended up befriending Fox, who ironically Joel had kidnapped. King also experienced Bino's cruelty first-hand, and remains deeply resentful of what he regards as petty animals who "can't see the world past their own noses". He has also befriended Sasha, whom he has shown as much kindness to as possible. He is also unable to hold his orange soda, making a fool of himself at a 4th of July barbecue. At first he lived with Pete as his "pet" and was treated as such. After Pete was banned, he went to live with Miles and the wolf pack. It was made clear, however, that the Game Master could not change him back, leaving him stuck as a dog for the time being.

Pete
The assumed name of an extradimensional entity of "unspeakable power" who typically appears in the form of a blue gryphon. Pete first appeared to Grape in a dream, although she woke up clutching one of his feathers; this started a chain of events that would later involve Grape (accidentally) helping to release Pete from his imprisonment. He is capable of (among other things) flight, teleportation, and shapeshifting (both himself and others). Tarot claims that Pete is "neither kind nor good", and "is actually sort of a jerk", and is somehow linked to her visions of doomsday. His only actions thus far have been to turn Joel into King and to move into a house in Babylon Gardens under the guise of an elderly human man; his true motives remain unknown. Due to recent events, Pete is currently "banned from the game board". His human avatar "moved away" and turned King over to Miles' wolf pack.

Pet Owners and other Humans
Mr. & Mrs. Earl Sandwich
Peanut and Grape's owners and "parents." Seldom seen, and even then, only from the neck down. They got pets because they weren't sure they were ready to have children of their own, and moved to Babylon Gardens due to the pet-friendly neighborhood and their mutual fondness of animals. Mr. Sandwich works as an auto mechanic.

Reuben Sandwich
Earl's brother. He is a farmer, and has five children, along with a dog, three cats and a host of farm animals.

Ryan Byron
Fido's dad. He's an R&D engineer at a software firm, and spends his free time playing D&D with his friends.

Jerry Arbelt
Tiger, Marvin and Zach's dad. Spends most of his free time cleaning up after Tiger's "many adorable and distressingly frequent antics".

Bill
Fox's dad. He's a local motorcycle police officer. He has a tendency to transport dogs in a paint bucket hog-tied to his motorcycle.

Jeff
Bino and Maxwell's dad.

Sasha's Owner
Tends to use Sasha as an attempt to "attract babes", and treats her cruelly when she doesn't get him any.

Rex's Owner
Only seen once, is African American.

Celia and Thomas Milton
Henry Milton's only surviving kin, his niece and nephew. They are disgruntled that their uncle left virtually his entire fortune to his ferrets; all they got was a single estate in Colorado. They are currently looking for a large chunk of Milton's fortune which he apparently hid somewhere.

Jeeves
Henry Milton's butler, and now butler to his ferrets.

Joel
A former PETA member who participated in Fox's abduction. When he was a child, Joel's pets were abused by his parents; when they decided to run away, they took Joel with them. However, after a few nights on the street, Joel's pets became feral and turned on him, an experience that led him to conclude animals could not be trusted. Despite this, he later joined the ASPCA, but was kicked out after serving time in prison for unspecified charges; he then signed up with PETA because they would allow him to join without passing a background check. While awaiting trial for dog-napping Fox, Joel was taken from his prison cell by Pete, who turned him into a dog for reasons that are unclear (at first it seemed like this was to help him learn some sort of lesson, but later events call this into question). Officially, Joel is a fugitive, whereabouts unknown.

Minor animal characters
Mr. Bigglesworth; tag: A large letter "B"
The collective name of a group of at least ten Siamese cats, both male and female, who all live in the same house. Their owner is a crazy cat lady who can't tell them apart... and sometimes, neither can they.

Fiddler and Keys; tags: a violin, and piano keys
Two of the neighborhood cats. Both are musically inclined, and romantically involved with each other.

Jasper; tag: A large letter "J"
Another neighborhood cat. Very rarely speaks. Is an analog for Tom of Tom and Jerry, and uses Tom's original name. And like Tom he has a mouse nemisis named Jynx.

Rufus; tag: red bandana
An Australian shepherd, he's the pet dog of Earl's farmer brother, Uncle Reuben.

Barn cats; No collars
A trio of teasing female cats of various colors.

Made Of Win, Action Replay and Money For Nothing
Uncle Reuben's horses.

Woodland Critters
There is a litany of herbivore animals in the forest, most prominently a pair of raccoons. The raccoons occasionally enter Babylon Gardens in search of trash.

Zoo animals
The zoo animals are also sentient, and work almost like employees at the zoo. Some get annoyed at the clientelle reading the placards instead of just talking to them.

The Wolf Pack
A group of wolves who decided feral life was for the birds. With the help of the Milton Ferrets, they got a house in Babylon Gardens. Legally, they are the Ferrets' pets, but they have their own house. The family is Miles, his mate Lucretia, his "other brother" Daryl, and three sons (who don't have names yet; the pack doesn't name children until they come of age). The wolves currently work as security at the Milton mansion.

Spirit Dragon and Great Kitsune
Extradimensional beings who, along with Pete, are using the Babylon Gardens universe as a "game board" for a cosmic version of D&D, "Universes and Unrealities". Great Kitsune is the Game Master. Spirit Dragon's avatar is Tarot.
