In August/September 2021, fandom and non-fur fur-friendly userswho expressed, personally or "in the name of the furry fandom", blaming the "intolerant dark side of the anthro fandom's" threat of "civil unrest" for its loss.

Members on the opposing side blamed AWOO's woes and loss of venue on itself, particularly on the acts of some of its staff memberswho threatening, while on social media, users with acts of violence, all the way up to include the threat of outright murder,cn which were saved via screenshots on various web sites.cn

AWOO responded to the accusations by pointing out that these flagrant postscn were made by non-AWOO staff people (in particular users KKKlyde and Cani Lupine)cn on their Twitter accounts or on Free Fur All 2022 Unofficial Chat, an unsanctioned "Free Fur All" social site.cn

Data breach and website change
In January 2023, the AWOO Association stopped responding to emails from attendees requesting refunds. Speculation arose that their online systems had been compromised, which was later confirmed with a leak of their January staff meeting.

Despite the data breach that occurred on or before the January staff meeting, AWOO continued to reference their compromised website at least as late as February 24th 2023 March of 2023, AWOO quietly started posting links to a new website to replace their old one which currently remains compromised. Free Fur All has not yet acknowledged the data breach or disclosed how much of its attendees' data was accessed, if any.
