Pinkuh

2006-08-06T10:37:56Z

167.155.38.203: Fur Affinity has a space in it, not all one word.

Pinkuh (aka Anna Hollingsworth, in RL Kelli Davis nee Washburn) is a furry artist from Apex, North Carolina. Her fursona is a pink fox with purple hair, forearms and feet, and with white chest and tail-tip fur. She is married to Aros. She is also a staff member at Fur Affinity.

Conflicts with MDY
Pinkuh has a long history with yaoi artist MDY, an administrator at y!Gallery. Their relationship began as friends on livejournal, sharing memberships in multiple yaoi groups. However, MDY's open opposition to anthropomorphic art began to insult Pinkuh, and so Pinkuh started her rivalry with MDY with subtle reminders that one of her friends was one of those artists. MDY allegedly would insist that she was exaggerating, and was not referring to Pinkuh specifically, but she still continued with increasingly harsh rants against anthros and the fur fandom.

As the infamous y!Gallery ban on anthro art took its course, tensions started to rise as MDY became frustrated with the resulting overload of drama. Pinkuh and MDY were reintroduced, which led to a long debate involving many edits and deletions by MDY and eventually a ban. Pinkuh and MDY continue their rivalry, which is only heightened by the fact that Pinkuh is a staff member of Fur Affinity, the gallery similar to Y! that most of the furry artists moved to after the ban.

167.155.38.203: Revised Software Update, Minor Text, etc.

Fur Affinity is one of the furry fandom's largest communities and the second largest art gallery alongside VCL (according to Alexa stats). It was created as an alternative to sites such as SheezyArt and DeviantArt, allowing people from the furry/anthro fandoms to upload art, music and stories regardless of rating.

Features that separate Fur Affinity from larger, more populated Furry sites like VCL include its ability to allow users to track new updates from their favorite artists, highlight favorites and upload a wide variety of art (images, music and stories). The site attempts to promote community through its comments system and individual journals.

Fur Affinity is currently assisting in the planning of a convention known as United!. The convention is expected to debut in Summer of 2007.

Fender
Fender is the Fur Affinity mascot. He was primarily created by artist K-9 upon an idea by Preyfar. K-9 is one of the individuals behind the comic Circles. The site currently employs a version of Fender (which can be found in the header) drawn by artist Mutley James.

Being half fox, half ferret, and all personality, Fender was born in an attempt to give the site a unique figurehead to whom people could turn for questions and answers regarding the site. This was done in an attempt to dissuade grandstanding by admins using the site as a pedestal for their own popularity.

Fender is most often mistaken as being a raccoon.

History
Fur Affinity was launched at the beginning of January 2005 as an alternative to SheezyArt. During that time period, Sheezy abruptly changed policies to both remove adult art and take a stronger stance against users and their uploads. Warnings were supposedly issued from the site's service provider, advising Sheezy Art that they were not permitted to host adult content on their site. Much of Sheezy's community was abandoned after the rules change took effect. This migration left many with few alternatives. Many of those burned by SheezyArt went on to sites such as Fur Affinity and y!Gallery.

Fur Affinity had suffered from major security holes and a hacking in during Summer of 2005. The site was shut down August 1, 2005 due to a disagreement between Jheryn and host provider Arcturus, the primary administrators of the site. At that time Fur Affinity had 12,174 user accounts and nearly 100,000 submissions. Arcturus and supporters went on to found ArtPlz, a site which stagnated during launch, consistently missing deadlines..

Over the course of 2005, Fur Affinity was able to raise $1,500 in donations towards the purchase of new hardware for its primary server; a server which would, unfortunately, not realize itself until the middle of 2006. Thanks to the community, Fur Affinity was able to build a stronger, faster server than the site originally used for operation.

Fur Affinity returned to operation in December 2005 with a solid backbone and more efficient coding, although full operational status would not be reached until December 10 due to a defect in the ASUS motherboard which powered the server.

The server, a dual Xeon 3.0Ghz system with 4GB of RAM, is currently housed in a Weehaken, New Jersey Level 3 co-location facility. Dragoneer is the system's primary hardware maintainer, providing funding and support for the site.

Ferrox Code Update
As of June 21, 2006 the site announced an impending upgrade to the site. FA opted to shed their previous naming convention (v1, v2 and v3) and go by a codename for the major upgrade. The 2006 Summer Upgrade for Fur Affinity is currently known as "Project Ferrox".

Features introduced or improved upon are:
* A new UI which supports better web programming standards, user-requested features and more streamlined navigation for ease-of-use.
* Revised submission interfaces for art, music and stories to allow for faster, more accurate uploads and provide unique features for each artistic area.
* A re-written server backend to better support scalability and future upgrades.
* Time-limited editable user comments (to prevent abuse).
* Flood detection to prevent spam
* Enhanced site security from account creation to content delivery.
* A more flexible key-word based search system.
* Groups and Communities
* Community-sponsored error messages inspired by VCL.
* Monthly themes and mini-contests where users can obtain ranks and profile enhancements.
* LiveJournal-like account upgrades to allow users to purchase extended features and customizations to make their FA user page stand out.
* Better integrated help and site information.

Facts
* During its first 12 hours of the site's official re-opening on December 10th, Fur Affinity had over 10,000 submissions for music, art and writing. The amount of submissions is a tally of both imported art from returning users as well as all new artistic pieces.
* Account import strings begin and end with !pie!.
* The site currently supports over 20,000 users and over 120,000 submissions as of June 7, 2006.
* The site transfers an average of just over 55 GB data and near 7,500,000 individual files daily.

Fur Affinity was originally launched at the beginning of January 2005 as an alternative to SheezyArt after Sheezy abruptly changed policies to remove adult art and take a stronger stance against users and their uploads, following warnings from their service provider that they were not actually permitted to host adult content on their site. Much of Sheezy's community was abandoned, left with few alternatives. Many of those burned by SheezyArt went on to sites such as Fur Affinity and y!Gallery.

Fur Affinity had suffered from major security holes and an unfortunate hacking in mid-2005. Over the course of July and August, Fur Affinity raised over $1500 in donations from the community to purchase new hardware to build a better, faster server than the site originaly used for operation. The community behind FA had helped it back onto its feet.

Finally, in December 3rd, 2005, Fur Affinity returned to the online world with a solid backbone and more efficient coding, although full opertional status would not be reached until December 10 due to a glitch in the server's OS, FreeBSD 5, which was causing the server to reboot at random.

With the help of Arcturus, Fur Affinity was able to recover its content from the original system, which allowed users to import their data without having to start anew.

The server is currently housed in New Jersey.

* Just over two weeks after launch the site had almost 5,000 users and over 30,000 submissions as of December 27, 2005.
* Fur Affinity's server shares the same rackspace with another Furry art site, ide7

Talk:Feh

2005-12-07T09:46:41Z

167.155.38.203:

"Feh" is a "furry" explicitive? Since when? The word's used by people all over, not just the fandom, and is in no way limited to simply the fandom.
