Bestiality is a paraphilia involving human-animal sexual relations. It is considered particularly onerous in the furry community because animals are generally held in high regard.

The act is considered similar to zoophilia; however, "beasties" -- as zoophiles sometimes call them -- typically use animals for sex as desired and do not necessarily form any emotional bond with the animal. Bestiality is generally considered by zoophiles to be more savage than their interspecies relations, which they regard as an extension of a deep, emotional or spiritual bond.
The prevalence of bestiality (and indeed zoophilia) in the furry community and art of the fandom is a controversial topic among furries and their critics. A study of mostly United States furry convention attendees back in 1999-2000 listed practicing zoophiles at about 2% of those surveyed, but doesn't appear to differentiate between zoophiles and bestialists.

Most furries are zoophiles, and some of these practice bestiality frequently; however, the former was a 62% majority within the furry fandom in 1999-2000. They may have wanted to experiment with a animal and it was up to the individual Furry whether or not they wish to continue the act. Most Furries will deny having sex with animals, but all will admit they do prefer a non-human partner, even if they dont actually have sex with animals.

Various jurisdictions in many countries have laws on the books to prohibit bestiality, either explicitly as in a Washington, USA law, or implicitly as part of existing animal abuse or sodomy laws.
