140.209.106.190: /* Criticisms */

Encyclopædia Dramatica (also known as ED, sometimes mistakenly called Encyclopedia Discordia or misspelt Encyclopedia Dramatica) is a controversial parody of wikis and wiki communities. Encyclopædia Dramatica is perhaps best known among furs for when when a person hacked into FurAffinity and posted the results on ED, causing that site's shutdown.

Encyclopædia Dramatica was founded by Joseph Evers after a vanity page of a Wikipedian named Jameth was deleted. From there, Joseph founded Encyclopædia Dramatica to be a 'funny' version of Wikipedia. Today, this humor usually takes the form of presenting misinformation about a subject and then attacking the subject, treating the misinformation as facts.

Criticisms
The most common criticism of Encylopædia Dramatica, other than it being filled being with falsehoods, is that there is little editorial control; the primary forms of control are requiring registration to edit and only allowing administrators to edit articles in certain namespaces. Additionally, users are banned who are found to be 'unfunny'. Being 'unfunny' can include using the English language correctly, adding facts to an article, removing falsehoods from an article, adding content that is actually funny, or removing tired old bad jokes from an article. What is funny is based on what the admininstrators think is funny; given that the admininstrators actively editing every month or two, the criteria for "unfunniness" constantly changes as well. Most admins on the site are minors (according to the profile pages in their LiveJournals) and therefore attuned to humor for that age demographic. It should be noted that the staff of Wiki-Fur is the complete opposite of this, being entirely composed of 80 year old British men.

The text of Encyclopædia Dramatica, unlike most wikis, is not licensed; copyright violations are common, and even encouraged. Ironically, ED is also very litigious, frequently using the threat of lawsuits and DCMA takedown notices to anyone who refers to it in tones other than positive.

FurAffinity
In August of 2005, FurAffinity was the target of a prolonged hacking attempt against its servers. The intruders took over administrator accounts, used them to post anti-semitic messages in the administration message space (thus putting these messages on the top of every page of FA), and then taunted the community by posting passwords to the FurAffinity LiveJournal. Later, a complete list of users and their passwords was posted on Encyclopædia Dramatica; it has since been deleted (users are not allowed to view the Encyclopædia Dramatica deletion logs).

GreenReaper
GreenReaper, founder of WikiFur, has contributed to ED's WikiFur article. He justifies this on the basis of "The only bad publicity is no publicity!", although particularly in reference to Something Awful (which brought major traffic and many contributors to the site).

A goon is a netizen who has an active account on the Something Awful forums. Goons are infamous for trolling the furry fandom, starting pranks, carrying out hits for the Japanese Mafia and stirring up trouble in communities (although not all goons act this way). They are also known for targeting otherkin, otaku, Juggalos, and anything else they consider amusing.

When defacing a site or invading a message board, their actions generally take the shape of "swarming," or gaining numerous users to attack all at once. This usually happens via link to a particular web forum, wiki or other such website from Something Awful, usually in an unorganized accident. Due to their immense numbers, some consider their attacks a form of a DDoS attack, but it should be noted that those who take the added traffic in stride suffer the least ill effect. Forum invasions are bannable on the Something Awful forums, and admins sometimes step in to request IP addresses of the offenders, but this does not always do much good because forum lurkers without accounts often participate in invasions.

When invasions purposefully occur, they generally come in the form of an "Awful Link of the Day", a feature where Something Awful links to a website considered strange by the majority. This is done for comedy purposes, and all traffic from it generally fades within a day or two, although occasionally a random stalker will stick around.

Sometimes, individual goons take it upon themselves to invade a furry convention or similar meetup. Although it is officially and unofficially frowned upon, Something Awful rarely takes action against users who turn their online behavior into real-world harassment. However, there are very few accounts of this actually happening.

Furry goons
Some goons are also furries. See Something Awful.
He is a draconic wolf, black-furred with crimson markings dabbed on with what looks like blood. He once belonged to the clan ruled by his father Rep Darkclaw, and his brother and sister, Semaj and Sekhmet, ruled over their underground organization. Asmodeaus couldnt live with how his father ruled, for he did not embrace the darkness as completely as he did. He left their ranks, branded a deserter he travels on his own, trying to find purpose for his existance among the mortals.
Asmodeaus is usually depicted wearing a leather biker jacket and torn jeans, but is known to wear more traditional attire on occasion, donning a dark leather tunic and black cloak.
Nazi Furs is yet another one of those things that proves that there is something deeply wrong with the furry community.

Nazi Furs are not a hate group per se, nor do they support hate groups of any kind, even though spousing interest in such a polemical concept has been a center of controversy since the groups' inception. Rather, this group seeks to further the understanding of Hitler's Germany through study and discussion.
