#australia is a channel on (IRC) started in November 2008, frequented by furries from the country of Australia. Set up as a literally anarchical alternative channel to #ozfurs, #australia's owners run the channel without any (obvious) channel operators.

The channel has three rules:

# No spamming, flooding or other activity that technically impedes the ability of channel participants to chat.
# Ops aren't to be used except to enforce this first rule.
# :3

Registration controversy
The official FurNet registration of #australia was initially stopped by ShivalWolf and Snowpony, both of them staff on #ozfurs and also FurNet administrators. They did not make the reason for their objection known to the owners.

The objections were later dropped and #australia was allowed to be registered.

References in Popular Culture
Contrary to popular belief, the furry IRC channel #australia is not the point of reference in the song 'Sounds of Then (This is Australia)'. The members of Ganggajang have also never visited the channel in any way.
It is unknown how this rumor started.
