Foxes, scientifically referred to as vulpines, are members of the canid family. The term fox properly refers to any one of the 27 species of small to medium sized omnivorous canids bearing vulpine characteristics, particularly the sharp features and the brush-like tail.

what is it with all the foxes? get a life people, Dressing up as animals for sexual pleasure isnt normal no matter how hard you delude yourself into it.

The most common species associated with a fox is the red fox. The female of this species is called a vixen, and the male is referred to as a tod or dog. Their young are called kits, cubs, or pups. A group of foxes is called a skulk.

Foxes and furry
Foxes are one of the most popular phenotypes chosen by furries, with the Red Fox being a popular subspecies.

This may be due to the frequent anthropomorphization of the fox in literature such as in Aesop's Fables, and movies such as Disney's Robin Hood. In addition, the fox is part of popular figures of speech, such as "the fox guarding the henhouse", "crazy as a fox", "she's a fox", etc.

As the fox is portrayed frequently and in a myriad of ways, this may give it broader appeal, and make it easier for people to associate with; hence, its popularity as a fursona.

Foxes in furry art
Characters and fursonas
In the aforementioned media, the fox is portrayed as mischievous and cunning (Aesop), or heroic (Robin Hood), but in furry fandom, the fox is such a universally popular character that it is in no way restricted to those traits. In fact, furries choosing the fox as their fursona typically fall into one of the following three categories:

# Realistic -- Often chosen by those who desire a quiet, introspective, and perhaps shy persona. This is likely due in part from observing the mannerism of the fox in its natural habitat, and observing its quiet beauty in photographs. Moreover, these people are often intelligent, choosing the fox for its fabled cunning.
# Toony -- Although the fox is seldom portrayed as a buffoon in popular media, many furries choose to portray the fox in a silly manner. Toony fox fursuits are popular, as is playful online roleplaying. Furries may run over a fox with a steamroller, whilst chatting on Anthrochat. Furries who carry their affinity for sports over into their character would fall into this category as well.
#Yiffy -- As with any other species, a percentage of furries wish to emphasize an adult sense of playfulness in their character, and the fox is no exception. Often foxes are chosen by those who consider themselves submissive as well.

Since the fox enjoys such widespread popularity as a fursona, occasionally multiple furries with fox fursonas will choose the same name, which causes confusion. Indeed, on popular servers with many users, a fox furry may be unable to obtain the user name of choice, and may be forced to add one or more numbers after the username to differentiate from other users. This is probably the source of the assertion that "foxes are numbered", but in reality, they are not yet identified by sequential enumeration.

Foxes, in old religions, were associated with gender changes. (For example, kitsune were traditionally depicted as being able to turn into an old man, a young woman, or a mature fox, as desired.) It may not be coincidental, then, that (according to Pounced) the fox is the most common phenotype among transgendered furs, with almost 1 in 6 being vulpine.

A furry equivalent of the "dumb blonde" stereotype applies to many fox characters, leading to practices like the telling of vixen jokes. This is directly contradicted by the "cunning fox" stereotype however, so foxes can be clichéd as either ditzy or devious. West Corner Of the Park bases many of its running gags around the supposed stupidity of foxes.

The Kangaroo is the largest surviving marsupial in the world. They are macropods like their smaller cousins the wallaby and the forest dwelling pademellon. Predominantly known as a native species to Australia, some species of Kangaroos are also found in New Guinea.

Seriously? Kangaroos? WTF? You furrytards sicken me

Being a marsupial, the females have a pouch which is used to hold their young from an early birth (approx. 4-6 weeks) through most of their young development. Kangaroos also feature a large muscular tail, used for balance, and a set of very powerful hind legs which can propel them at speeds of up to 70km/h over short distances.

Species
Species of Kangaroo include the Red Kangaroo (Macropus rufus), Eastern Grey Kangaroo (Macropus giganteus), and the Western Grey Kangaroo (Macropus fuliginosus). Wikipedia has more information at Kangaroos.

Terminology
In Australian common usage, male kangaroos may be referred to as "bucks," "boomers," or "jacks" and females "does," "flyers," or "jills." In the case of the Red Kangaroo, a female may also be referred to as a "blue flyer" due to their bluish-grey fur color in contrast to the ruddy coat of the males. The proper name for a group of kangaroos is a "mob." Young kangaroos are called "joeys."

The Koala (Phascolarctos cinereus) is a small herbivorous marsupial, typically found in coastal regions of eastern and southern Australia. Despite its name, the koala is NOT a bear.

Koala fursonas are typically chosen by Australian furries, due to the fact that koalas are one of the national symbols of Australia.

A rabbit (also known as "lapin" or "lapine" in French, "usagi" in Japanese) is a herbivorous mammal, physically characterised by long hindlegs, long ears, large front teeth, and a very short, fluffy tail, called a scut or bobtail.

you sick fucks get horny over fucking RABBITS? Was it too much bugs growing up? You sicken me to the pit of my stomach

Species confusion
The rabbit is a very well-known animal, but similarities between different species often results in it being confused with other species. The archetypal rabbit is the European Rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus), which is brown-grey in colour. All domestic rabbits are descended from this species.

In America, European rabbits are often confused with cottontails, which look practically the same, but are a different genus.

The most common confusion is with hares, which look like large rabbits. The two are not the same, but they tend to be lumped together.

Rabbits in culture
Rabbits are well known for being prolific breeders (as evidenced in the phrase 'breeding like rabbits'). For this reason, they are often used as a symbol of fertility. For the same reason, they are regarded as pests by farmers.

The rabbit is widely predated, and this role as a prey animal also lends it an air of innocence.

Anthropomorphic rabbits have often appeared in film and literature. Some popular culture examples are:

* Bugs Bunny from Looney Tunes
* Lola Bunny from Space Jam
* Buster Bunny from Tiny Toon Adventures
* Babs Bunny from Tiny Toon Adventures
* Roger Rabbit from Who Framed Roger Rabbit
* Cream the Rabbit from the Sonic series
* Usagi Yojimbo

Bhunnies
A "bhunny" is an attractive female rabbit. The term is comparable to "vixen", but applied to a rabbit instead of a fox. The word is vocalized slowly and drawn out (bhuuuuunny), as if the lower jaw were numb and/or weighted down. The term is the result of a male character seeing an attractive doe rabbit character and being so distracted by the sight he is unable to say anything else.

Many associate the term with the characters Rhonda or her mother RM from the comic strip Roomies, but it is unclear whether the term originated there.

Proud To Be a Furry

2010-10-20T15:46:27Z

124.168.252.185:

The Proud To Be a Furry campaign website was founded in January 2002 by John "The Gneech" Robey of The Suburban Jungle in response to a perceived withdrawal from the term furry as it was subjected to increased negative publicity, both generally and in the media.

* Address: http://www.suburbanjungle.com/proud_furry.html

John believed that choosing another term for same concept would not prevent people from ridiculing it, and that furries should instead stand firm against the bad press and fight for the right to be furry without fear or shame attached.
