Toonophilia, also known as schediaphilia, is the paraphilia of being attracted to cartoon character(s) (toons) emotionally or sexually. In Japan, the sexual or affective attraction towards two-dimensional anime, [manga, and Japanese light novel characters is called Nijikon (二次コン) or nijigen konpurekkusu (二次元コンプレックス), from the English phrase "2D complex". Non-Japanese anime/manga fans also use the term.

In China the term used is Zhǐ-Xìng-Liàn (紙性戀, lit. paper-philia).

Animesexual (formerly animesexual, mangasexual, or eminaficticare) is a 2012 queer sexual variant used by American LGBTQIA+ members to describe these same Japanese characters.<ref>Animatesexual page on the LGBTQIA+ Wiki. These terms are not to be confused with fictosexuality, the sexual attraction towards any fictional characters (not just toons). Romantic attraction towards these characters is called fictoromantic.
