Welcome to WikiFur! Let me know on user talk if you need any help, although I'm guessing you probably know enough about wikis already. :-) --GreenReaper(talk) 02:24, 17 Aug 2005 (UTC)

Renaming pages

Hi there, I just noticed you were having a little trouble with a number of articles relating to TBOF. I've now deleted the blanked and redundant articles but please remember the following things:

  • You don't need to duplicate an article to rename it, just click the move tab and enter the new name. A redirect will be automatically made.
  • When you blank an article and want it deleted, remember to place a WikiFur:Boiler Plate Text/Deletion Templates speedy deletion template on the empty page so administrators are made aware of it. Leave instructions then on the page (if its blank) or in the edit summary with your reasons for the delete.

Hope this helps, happy editing. --Nidonocu - talk Nidonocu 02:21, 9 Sep 2005 (UTC)

Commenting on other contributors' actions

Hi again! I'm sure you appreciate that words are a tool that can be used in many ways. Some of those ways - that are the norm in venues such as LiveJournal - are less appropriate on WikiFur. Please take care to ensure that your comments are in line with our policies, and try to assume good faith on the part of other contributors. If another member's statement is inaccurate, it should be simple to demonstrate that without rubbing their nose in it, especially weeks after their last edits when they are less likely to be able to reply. Remember that WikiFur is at most for the characterization of conflicts in our community; it should not become a vehicle for their resumption. We're here to build an encyclopedia, after all, not make a point in an argument long dead. :-)

Thank you for your consideration, and I hope you're having a Happy New Year! --GreenReaper(talk) 05:31, 6 Jan 2006 (UTC)

I'm sure that Xydexx wasn't trying to be out of line or cause any problems. But I can understand the frustration that he probably feels when an individual says one thing about a particular movement or group, and his experiences with that own group contradict it. I know that if someone from a particular group stated that they were going to put *my* head through a wall, I'd have a really hard time being objective in the future about that group. :-) --Dmuth 15:16, 6 Jan 2006 (UTC)
I can understand that, and I don't think he was trying to, either (sorry for talking about you in third person on your own talk page, Xydexx :-). Ultimately, though, did anyone put any heads through walls, or was it all just talk? I've had legal threats from someone who was previously an organizer of a major furry convention, when they were angry with me for not doing exactly what they wanted with an article - should I hold that against others in that group who weren't involved - especially when I wrote the article that made him mad in the first place?
Right at the top of the post you linked to, you can see that the post was deliberately made to talk about members of the Burned Furs in a negative manner, despite Xydexx's knowledge that it was a topic that had already been given extensive coverage. Perhaps he felt justified in doing so given other posts on the topic. Nevertheless, I believe that many of his experiences with the group are a direct result of him setting himself up as their major opponent with such posts. Mr Forrester is not talking about putting Random Q Furry's head through a wall, but that of someone that he personally dislikes. In fact, all of the quotes there are specifically against Xydexx. While this is still not a good thing, it does imply that Xydexx's experiences might not be typical of relations between members and non-members of the group - it says far more about what these people think of Xydexx himself.
As such, I am concerned that his viewpoint derived from these experiences might not represent the wider view of the community as a whole, just as I would be concerned if the people who ran Rabbit Valley started posting about Sibe - as much as they know about him, they have doubtless had exceptionally bad experiences with him, and so are likely to have a very negative viewpoint. If I had wanted to write a good article about the USSR back in the mid to late 19xx's, I wouldn't rely too much on the personal views and experiences of the president of the USA, just as I wouldn't necessarily have trusted that Stalin or Khrushchev had entirely representative views. I fully appreciate that being close to a topic can mean you have more information, but actually being on the fighting line can be a little too close, and I think it requires extra care when editing.
If you appreciate irony . . . I have been in this situation myself when editing on Wikipedia (in relation to both WikiFur and to my company), so I do speak from experience. :-) --GreenReaper(talk) 00:43, 7 Jan 2006 (UTC)
Actually, no, Mr. Forrester did not do anything to me. After he posted that, I e-mailed a major convention for advice, they assured me that they wouldn't tolerate violence at conventions, and if it happened I could (and would) vigorously press charges against him. It was very educational. Years later (May 2004), he actually did apologize to me about it, and I respect the courage that took for him to do. I'm actually reluctant to bring him up, because he said his participation in Burned Fur was a mistake and he wished he'd never gotten involved with them. I've found that's generally the case with most of former Burned Furs I've talked to, actually. I don't have a grudge against them; as the saying goes, forgive but don't forget.
But yeah, that's not really here nor there. I'll try not to rub people's noses in it, but I still think close attention should be paid to the fact that User:Calbeck is simply incorrect on a lot of things about Burned Fur. Myself, I've got 9 megs of archived material on them, so it's easy for me to catch him at it. Unfortunately, I don't think there's a polite way to say this group was an embarrassment to the fandom. —Xydexx 03:27, 7 Jan 2006 (UTC)
