Categorization of location[edit]

Hi there, and welcome to WikiFur! Thanks for your recent contributions - but I am not entirely comfortable with the changes you have made to categories. You appear to have placed a large number of people into both leaf-level categories and into their supercategories (e.g. not just into Brisbane, but also into Queensland and Australia). Categories are not tags; only the most specific one should be used, to avoid cluttering up the higher-level categories with hundreds of entries.

If you want to create a list for your own purposes, a better way is to use DynamicPageList to construct a list drawing from each category.

I also encourage the use of the "Show preview" button before saving, and getting everything in at once as far as possible - every time you make an edit to, say, Snooper, it shows up in recent changes, drowning out edits made by others. An edit summary is useful for others, too. :-) --GreenReaper(talk) 16:16, 5 February 2010 (UTC)

I had initially thought of using a DPL but I couldn't entertain the thought in my head due to the amount of work, so what i've tried to set out to do is to make Brisbane a subcategory of Queensland, but I don't exactly have the know how to do so. If Brisbane where a sub-catagory of Queensland, would the people in the category Brisbane be shown on Category:Queensland...?
To make a category into a subcategory, you just place it into that category like any other article. I did this for Category:Brisbane shortly after you created it. However, that will not display the members of the subcategory; they are represented by the category name. It's not meant for listing, hence why it's not called a list. :-)
Making a Dynamic Page List is not too hard. But there is an even easier option - just go to Special:CategoryTree, and enter Australia and select "all pages". This will display all members of the subcategories in the tree after you have expanded all nodes. You can also create custom tree views. Unfortunately it doesn't work right now because you added the residents of Brisbane into the supercategories as well. :-)
