Welcome![edit]

Welcome to wikifur! That looks like a promising logo there. Of course when more are posted, we'll have to discuss which one to use. Happy editing! --Markus 18:51, 15 Aug 2005 (UTC)

I agree. It looks pretty good. --GreenReaper(talk) 19:14, 15 Aug 2005 (UTC)

Considering the circumstances and your record on Wikipedia, if you've got the time, your assistance with dealing with the people from SA would be greatly appreciated. I've added you as a sysop for now. Don't feel you have to, though! :-) --GreenReaper(talk) 19:14, 15 Aug 2005 (UTC)

Article naming convention proposal[edit]

When I saw Serval come up as an article, I knew we were going to have an issue. As I'm sure you're aware, some of the older fur fans have gone by animal names as fan names. I propose that we have a [[Category:Species]] with names of things that are animals, as opposed to characters, appended with Serval (species) or Panther (species) or Fox (species), sort of like how WP is has (film) and such. What do you think? MelSkunk 05:14, 16 Aug 2005 (UTC)

It's a good idea. Go for it! --GreenReaper(talk) 05:31, 16 Aug 2005 (UTC)

More stylistic suggestions[edit]

Lord forbid, got another bother: We're getting so many dang micro articles, I think a stub-expansion template for the front might be a good idea. I've modified one of the tables to be like that in my Userpage, if you'd like to see what it looks like. I'm just excessivly reluctant to make a template without authorization, and even less wanting to add new things to the front page :) -- MelSkunk 03:04, 17 Aug 2005 (UTC)

This isn't Wikipedia - you won't get flamed for making a template you think will be useful, or for editing the main page. Be bold! :-)
The only suggestion I would make is removing the last entry and the - before it as that pushes it over one line for 1024x786 maximised (I've been trying to keep all the main templates that size). Other than that, it looks good to go. --GreenReaper(talk) 03:07, 17 Aug 2005 (UTC)

Hilarity[edit]

Dude, that edit is so dang hilarious. :) --Markus 00:06, 19 Aug 2005 (UTC)

Featured Articles[edit]

Well, we don't have to have a new one every day, but I personally recommend the Caitians one for "next up". It actually had so many images, I had to leave one of mine out. Plus, M'ress is a notable early furry character. -- MelSkunk 23:51, 19 Aug 2005 (UTC)

Could do with some links to Memory Alpha for the added material, especially since it's a Wikia project too. If it was spaced out a bit more somehow, you could fit more pictures in. Perhaps an external links section?
As for the Featured Articles, we do have to have one every day, because otherwise the script will go on and there'll just be an ugly red link. Admittedly you coulc copy the last one, but that would be cheating. ;-) --GreenReaper(talk) 00:29, 20 Aug 2005 (UTC)

Wikimedia fundraiser[edit]

I had the added line because of the strong statements on the fundraising page that people should be under no impression that they have to pay for Wikipedia or related services, now or ever. Also, we aren't affiliated in any way with the project. I leave it up to you but there were in fact reasons that line was included -- MelSkunk 02:22, 20 Aug 2005 (UTC)

I know, but a) we're pointing them to that site, so they will be reading that if they care enough to click ("consider" and "donation" also indicate it), and b) I don't think anyone at WikiMedia would actually complain that we're sending people to give money to them
Most of all, though, c) Wikicities has done this before, across the whole site and they didn't worry too much about attributing it then. Regardless of the theoretical separation, Wikia and the WikiMedia Foundation have broadly the same goals, and effectively the same people running them. One of them's just allowed to make money, and runs free promotion for the one that can't. :-) --GreenReaper(talk) 03:26, 20 Aug 2005 (UTC)

Tygger Graf[edit]

Hello,

I found out about this from a friend of mine who mentioned it in his LJ. I went browsing through the site to find if I've been listed, and I have.

Please remove the entry for Tygger Graf. And I would like to request that there be no entries for myself or my art in this listing. I have removed myself from fur fandom some years ago, severing all ties and connections as much as possible. I do not wish to be associated with this fandom in any way, which is why I am asking for the removal and the prevention of future entries.

Thank you in advance. Good luck with your project.

--L.Graf

Hi. Because of the way that wikis work, we cannot just remove all traces of you. If we did that, then anyone could create an article for you and we'd just have to delete it again. What we can do however, is to create a nearly blank entry for Tygger Graf (which I just did) and to protect it so that others cannot edit it (which I also just did). Let me know if that works for you. --Dmuth 14:48, 23 Aug 2005 (UTC)

Hi Mel, talk:babyfurs[edit]

I think Crassus is attempting to put some political bend into the babyfurs page.. I believe he has an alterior motive for defining these words. Myself, I'd like to get the entire bf and pedo section removed. Can I get your support?Redcard 18:37, 25 Aug 2005 (UTC)

Bot reversion[edit]

Hi there! Thanks for your work to stem the tide there. For future use, in that sort of situation it's best if you add &bot=1 to the URL of the page where you look at someone's contributions, then load that new page by pressing enter. If you then click on the rollback links, the rollbacks and the original posts disappear from recent changes, which helps reduce the vandal's impact even further. Again, thanks!

Oh, and I'm sorry I missed you earlier about the larger version of the logo, but I'll be on all day today (I think) or in the mid-to-late evenings whenever. :-) --GreenReaper(talk) 20:16, 29 January 2006 (UTC)

Cats[edit]

Hey! Mind if your image of yourself in Cats-esque costume is used in the Cats article as an illustrative example photo? I'd like to add it there but wanted to ask first :) MelSkunk 23:06, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

Why, I'd be honored. =3 There are a few others floating around on FWA-goer sites, but it's probably just easiest to use an already-uploaded picture. ^^ Spaz Kitty

[edit]

Hello! I'm currently working on getting a Swedish-language furry wiki set up, and I was wondering what font you'd used for the text in the current logo? I looked around and couldn't find the information, so I thought the best course of action would be to ask. (What I'd considered was to use the same font and the same general layout of the text, with "wiki" at the top and the second part of the wiki name at the bottom, with some other kind of ornamentation, possibly a fox tail on the final letter.) If you have objections to the idea, let me know and I'll think of something else. --quoting_mungo 11:45, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

Got a response from GreenReaper here. Of course it would take me forever and a day to get around to noting it... --quoting_mungo 07:53, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

Image:Rc-patrol.png[edit]

Hello MelSkunk,

This is in regards to Image:Rc-patrol.png. It has not been tagged with a copyright status. This can be a complicated area, so I can try to help if you need any. The Wikipedia Image use policy may give some background, but it isn't policy here.

To deal with this image, there are a few choices:

  • If you are the copyright holder, release it under a free license, for example:
  • If you are asserting that this image is usable under fair use, add an appropriate fair use tag. A very basic summary is that fair use is used for commentary, criticism and review on the image when no free image could be used instead. Some fair use tags are:
    • Logos: {{logo}}
    • Covers: {{Cover}}
    • Comic panels: {{Comic-panel}}
  • If the image is already under a free license, provide information on the license, and tag the image if you can.
  • If you would like the image to be deleted, ask any administrator

To see a list of current copyright tags available on WikiFur, see Category:Image copyright tags If the copyright status is not resolved, the image may be deleted.

Unless you have a question for me specifically, I'd prefer responses on the page for the image. --Rat 03:20, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

WikiFur logo guidelines[edit]

Hey, I've obtained a SVG version of the logo (from an .ai file GreenReaper provided me), but I notice it doesn't have the same metrics as the logo used in the PNG version. My fellow administrator of the Spanish language WikiFur, en:User:Fibonacci, has made some strong optimizations to the original SVG I uploaded, but there're still some issues with the distance of the text from the paw. It'd be great if you provide us guidelines for making and reproducing the logo just how you conceived it. Thanks in advance. --Richard Wolf VI 01:01, 18 February 2009 (UTC)

Also, I noticed the colours don't match - the blue paw in the PNG version is noticeably darker. Which one is right, then? --Fibonacci 01:16, 18 February 2009 (UTC)
