Category order

Category order is something I've struggled with since joining WikiFur, as I'm sure you've noticed. I'd do better remembering if I had a visual list somewhere to refer to. Since you've been the one following me around with a broom and dustpan this entire time, I figured I'd ask you if you could provide me with one. Equivamp - talk 17:29, 12 September 2014 (EDT)

I follow the example of our Category Lead, Sine:

• [[Category:People]] always first
• Activity-related categories ([[Category:Artists]], [[Category:Fursuiters]], constaff categories, guest-of-honour categories, etc, etc)
• Species-related categories (generally main fursona)
• Geographical categories (locations of significance - place of birth, current residence)

The basic idea is to lead with categories which are most likely to be of interest to furry readers, which are more specific to the subject, and which are more "important" considering this is an article about a person (i.e. being a comic artist is more important than being a fox character). Category:People is a bit odd given all that, but at least it's easy to remember. Also, having any scheme at all helps when scanning to see if something's been missed out in a particular section of the categories. --GreenReaper^(talk) 22:27, 12 September 2014 (EDT)

Stub tags

If I am adding a stub template to an article, where should I put it? Should it go beneath the main text and above the references/external links, like I did at Guardian Angel, or beneath all that, like at Alfa Fox? --Equivamp - talk 16:51, 10 May 2015 (EDT)

Artist collectives category

Thanks for asking. GreenReaper pointed out "They are not individual artists, as is implied for that category." So removing those collectives articles from Category:Artists would be appropriate.

Twitch

Page removal

Hello, a friend notified me that someone has written a page about me (complete with bizarre death theories) and I would very much appreciate if it can be removed. I simply decided some years ago that I wanted to separate myself from the fandom entirely, and while I would have no problem simply editing all of the misinformation in the article myself for correctness, the issue is I really would prefer my long-removed furry presence to be as minimal as possible. Gatorbox article

Why did you undo the article rewrite of the page Gatorbox? The content currently on the page is now outdated and the majority of the people mentioned on it haven't been involved for nearly three years. Also, I ask that you please avoid using the website's former name as the original producers still own it and requested that we no longer use it for marketing/etc. Please restore it to the version that was live as per my last revision please, thanks. I think the problem was you didn't edit the original article and move it to a new name - you just created a new article and then redirected it. Equivamp attempted to fix that by restoring the old article and removing it to the new name, but this caused the "new" article to be deleted. Gotcha, I apologize if that edit set off any internal alarms for things like vandalism, etc. No harm intended. I guess it goes without saying, but like a lot of users here I'm not very experienced with Wiki editing, at least not this kind of Wiki. I don't mind the accessibility of the article itself or anything, but I had gotten a heads up from the former producers that they wanted me to help clean up the footprint of their original domain name and all that. It was probably just a matter of not noticing that the copy-and-paste had in fact been a copy-and-edit. Just bear in mind that the original domain name is one fact which may be edited back in by others as a historical note. WikiFur's primary goal is to record information of interest to furry fans - we are not "your marketing", and as a WikiFur editor you should not remove information just because you feel it is in the interest of domain-holders (or you) to do so. While the owners might now use that domain name for something else, we may still wish to record the fact that the website was once there. It might, for example, be useful to access copies of the website at an earlier date at the Internet Archive - these might in turn substantiate the launch date claims, etc. --GreenReaper^(talk) 20:49, 6 April 2016 (EDT)

been recently harassed by people lately was looking to try to get my page deleted. Can you do that?

Anime Edits

You removed over two dozen anime without even taking the time to review them individually... after I spent an hour adding them in. You better hope athiests are right; I added in a warning on the Soul Eater - Immortal Werewolf, named Free entry that if anyone removed that entry in particular, I'd hunt them down in the afterlife and eat their effing soul myself. I was entirely serious. I'm going to add some anime in, one more time, while conscientiously removing the apparently unacceptable note I added to the top of the list requesting as many people as possible to add in any furry anime they think of - i.e., in doing so, gong AGAINST the GOAL of Wikifur (none of what I posted, including the soon to come edit, violating that Not For Wikifur page I read over, nor the rules of the Anime page's selection)). Following that, if the page is unilaterally reverted even one more time without somebody taking at least the amount of time I put in to contribute in order to go over every change themself and make sure it is proper, I WILL randomly come back, at any point it amuses me, using any VPN I must, and FUCK with any page on Wikifur I randomly hit up - focusing on entries on the anime page and randomly testing out my mettle as I learn to perform DDoS attacks, on the page itself. So you've been warned. And warn any other mods that think they have a monopoly on the furry community to review any changes they make carefully, particularly when they erase a large deal of work without even trying to do their JOB, self appointed or not, to review it. I thank you for at least sending a message in response - THIS time, unlike the douche that erased anime previously... several of which were simply submissions that had ALREADY been made, and were in that unit I've been setting aside at the bottom, and had merely reformatted to match the standard layout - and if you had left even SOME of the anime I added (particularly Fairy Tail) I wouldn't be resorting to such plebian threats. I wonder how many months it will take, and which will come first: me learning to DDoS; me learning to hack a server and clear a website; or me learning to track an IP and hack its PC? Indefinite IP blocks

Please don't use indefinite IP blocks on IP addresses used for DHCP pools, as it may inadvertently block other users after the need for the block has passed. You can just search for the IP address and click links until you get to a whois result for that IP address, but if you want to be more precise, go to https://apps.db.ripe.net/search/ and select "Search resource objects in all available databases", then enter the address into the query box (not the one at the top right) and hit "Search". That should give you the full address block which that address was allocated from (as "route") and the organization responsible for it. You can usually find out fairly quickly whether it's an residential ISP or a server host by searching on the name. If it's clearly a server, it might be worth blocking the entire block for a year, because we shouldn't have edits from servers. If it's an ISP - and it's actually necessary to block, not just revert and warn - block the individual IP address for hours/days/weeks as appropriate. If that doesn't work, try moving up to the IP range block(s) [e.g. "1.2.3.4/23") they used as identified by the query results, but I'd suggest only blocking for a few days/weeks unless absolutely necessary because others using those IP addresses won't be able to edit - that can be up to 65536 addresses per block for a /16. Also, be aware that a range-block message will be shown to anyone from that range who clicks "edit", not just the person who caused the range to be banned. --GreenReaper^(talk) 23:01, 6 February 2017 (EST)
