The Alien Dark (ISBN 978-0880389280) by Diana G. Gallagher is a 1990 novel "told from the perspective of some catlike aliens who approach a solar system with 9 planets where the 3rd planet is uninhabitable with a carbon dioxide atmosphere and the 2nd planet is livable."[1]
