placement within articles?[edit]

Should people be putting the Unreference tag at the top of articles? I noticed some Unreference tags are at top of some articles and elsewhere in other articles. --EarthFurst 04:40, 18 August 2006 (UTC)

It's generally up to the person. I'd put it where there was no references, but of course the entire article might be unreferenced. --GreenReaper(talk) 06:12, 18 August 2006 (UTC)

This could be a basis for a template to flag those articles (often person stubs) that have no external links. Do others think that template would be helpful? To supplement or replace the use of this template on certain articles? And is there anything similar to the Orphaned pages tool (Special:LonelyPages) that would automatically generate a list of articles that have no external links? -- Sine 17:16, 12 October 2011 (EDT)

Unreferenced tag and "What else exactly needs to be referenced?"[edit]

We have been tagging a slew of articles with the Unreferenced tag lately, and that while a few do indeed need to be tag as such (Dardo), some are obvious why they were tagged without needing further explanation/indication where the issue lies (PITA), but others seem to have enough links and refs to question what else needs to be covered (Naskatan).

If an editor stills feel that there is still not enough data/information concerning an article, just adding the Unreferenced tag without tagging the necessary parts makes it harder for other editors to identify where the problematic issue lies.

E.g. Working on the article Isaac M. Baranoff, the proper sections were tagged for additional attention, then the whole was labeled as Unreferenced. - Spirou 15:17, 18 December 2012 (EST)
