Thylacine, scientific name Thylacinus cynocephalus, is also known as the Tasmanian tiger or the Tasmanian wolf. Thylacines are carnivorous marsupials native to Australia. They are now extinct due to English settlement.
Thylacines look similar to dogs, but with a long, stiff, kangaroo-like tail. They are golden-brown in color with dark stripes along their back and tail (providing the "tiger" nickname). Being a marsupial, thylacines also have a pouch.
Did you know? Thylacines can open their jaws to 180°, the largest of any known mammal.
