Tarpaw Furmeet was a small furry convention held in Raleigh, North Carolina, USA as a precursor to the annual Anthro Crossroads East (ACE) who the group organized.[1] They also hosted a three-day Halloween event called Howler's Eve[2], which was also held annually.[3]

History[edit]

Tarpaw Furmeet[edit]

Tarpaw Furmeet was first held on the evening of November 5, 2016 at the Elks Lodge in Raleigh. The initial event was a trial run to see if a North Carolina based furry convention could be viable. The event was scheduled to immediately follow Triangle Area Fur's popular Pullen Park Picnic meet, and to help encourage turnout, a number of tickets were raffled during the picnic. With an attendance of 110, the event was considered a success.[4]

A second, larger event was organized for the weekend of May 19-21, 2017. Tarpaw secured a room block at Hampton Inn and Suites, Crabtree Valley, and meeting space at the hotel was reserved for a Friday night dance. The main events on Saturday were again held at the Elk's Lodge, and the hotel provided a shuttle service for attendees going between the lodge and the hotel. On Sunday, Tarpaw hosted its own picnic at Pullen Park. Attendance for the weekend rose to 141 as well as having 29 fursuiters.[4]

Anthro Crossroads East[edit]

The inaugural Anthro Crossroads East was held January 26-28, 2018 at the Hampton Inn and Suites, Crabtree Valley, in Raleigh.[1] Attendance for the weekend was 295 with 63 fursuiters.[5] The second annual ACE event took place January 18-20, 2019 in nearby Cary, North Carolina, having 282 attendees with 92 fursuiters.[6][7]

Howler's Eve[edit]

The first Howler's Eve was held the weekend of October 27-29, 2017. It was scheduled in similar fashion to Tarpaw Furmeet 2017 with Friday events taking place at the Hampton Inn and Suites, Crabtree Valley, Saturday at the Elks Lodge and a Sunday picnic at Pullen Park.[2][8][9] There were 124 attendees and 45 fursuiters at the event.[10] The second Howler's Eve took place October 26-28, 2018 at the same location.[11]

Events suspended[edit]

Anthro Crossroads East was placed on indefinite hiatus after the 2019 event due to a management dispute. As of mid-2019, the Anthro Crossroads East, Howler's Eve and Tarpaw Furmeet websites have since been removed. The Twitter page for Tarpaw Furmeet is currently closed out.[12]
