I doubt that an individual referenced as deceased is editing under an IP address in order to blank the article, but... -- Sine 03:50, 12 November 2012 (EST)

Request for name removal or non-indexing[edit]

A person claiming to be the parent of the deceased has requested that we either:

  • Remove the subject's real name for the article or, if we do not agree to do so,
  • Apply {{noindex}} to the article, so that it does not show up in search

Their grounds for this request are twofold:

  • The subject did not connect their names publicly when they were alive ("He did not want to link his personal given name to his persona via these sites or he would have stated his given name as his "Full Name" which he did not."), and they would like us to continue to respect that preference on his behalf
  • They have set up a memorial art scholarship under his name, and do not wish young visitors to this page to stumble across links to galleries which mature art

Personally I am minded to agree to their request, at least in part; however, I can also see the position that the privacy needs of a person decrease significantly after their death. It's also worth noting that works within the galleries concerned appear to have had any mature works removed already; the FA account is also set up to allow "registered users only". (Of course, when it comes to FA, a registered user could quite easily see mature work, although they would have to choose to do so.)

We haven't really run into this particular situation before, so what are your thoughts? Which of these options do you prefer? Or should we make no changes at all? --GreenReaper(talk) 17:36, 15 January 2013 (EST)

I would agree on personal name removal, which with few exceptions, we agree wholeheartedly about. But if the real name is present due to the public nature of the news references cited, it would be better to non-noindex the page. And I see why this is indeed a new one. If a vote is required on this case, nonindex, subject to final majority wishes - Spirou 21:19, 15 January 2013 (EST)

Please reference the following sample pictures take from Joe's gallery before it was purged: Each one of these images is not signed Porcelain Joe, Josey, Joe, JP, they are signed with his real name. He chose to give away his identity." -- Sine 19:54, 16 January 2013 (EST)
Very well. I will apply {{noindex}}, since there is no objection to that option. --GreenReaper(talk) 16:50, 25 January 2013 (EST)
I'm inclined towards documenting some of the dicussion on deviantART around names and identity I linked to above. Any thoughts on that? -- Sine 16:54, 25 January 2013 (EST)
