Is this common/furry enough to warrant an article, or should it be a subsection on an article covering Hypnofurs? - Spirou 01:37, 11 July 2009 (UTC)

Since there is the #hypnosis channel on Furnet, I say hypnosis shouldn't be subsection in Hypnofurs article (I assume you are thinking of Hypnofurs website and associated Fur Affinity account). --EarthFurst 02:28, 11 July 2009 (UTC)

sorry, its mine, im too rookie, i shouldnt have posted it, please delete it, i might try again when i actually knwo what i am doing --Hypnosnake 04:22, 11 July 2009 (UTC)

For being a rookie you did a pretty decent job of creating the article. In particular I have to give you credit for including sections relating hypnosis to furry fandom. You've already done better than 95% of the rookies we see here.
Having said that, I'm somewhat on the fence about whether the article is appropriate or not. We'd prefer to see something that indicates there's a furry angle or a synergism between furry and hypnosis that's more than or different from simply putting the two together. --mwalimu 05:37, 11 July 2009 (UTC)
Question: Are #hypnosis and Hypnofurs the same group .. or are they sister groups? --EarthFurst 16:18, 11 July 2009 (UTC)

- Answer: Same Group --Hypnosnake 19:41, 11 July 2009 (UTC)

If you visit you will see a poll taken on a hypnosis-dedicated website. More than 60% of those surveyed referred to themselves as furries. 03:45, 7 October 2009 (UTC)

Article update #1 (November 1 2009)[edit]

Updating the entry's appropriateness status. Keep or delete?. Vote on Merge - Spirou 22:59, 1 November 2009 (UTC)

I don't think we need the broad definition of hypnosis; merge into Hypnofurs (I'm assuming the Fur Affinity, channel, and .com listed in the External links go together). -- Sine 03:08, 2 November 2009 (UTC)

Updating the entry's appropriateness status. Keep or delete? - Spirou 00:42, 7 March 2010 (UTC)

I think that to merge this article with the article on the Hypnofurs group would be an inaccurate representation of the hypnosis and furry fandoms, as well as detrimental to these two groups. I am a furry with an interest in hypnosis and I can honestly say I personally avoid Hypnofurs like the plague. The Wikipedia article on "hypnofetishism" already redirects to "erotic hypnosis". These are ultimately different things, although they seem to be easily confused. Hypnofurs has such a lean towards sex in its community that to associate the entire portion of the furry fandom with interests in hypnosis with it is foolish. Ultimately, we must not confuse sexual interest (or lack thereof) with the interest in sex. I know that I am likely in the minority here, but thanks to whoever takes the time to read this. I think the relevant question to ask before merging, is are they the same thing? It seems to me that Hypnofurs is a specific interest group, with a possible leaning towards the erotic uses of hypnosis. This article attempts to address hypnosis in a broader sense, by relating its uses to (for example) help a furry feel the effects of transformation. I would suggest that the lead-in material (which just summarizes the theory of hypnosis) be trimmed to no more than a short paragraph; hypnosis is a common topic in today's culture and does not need more than a very simple introduction (with a link to Wikipedia for more info, perhaps). I'd like to see the latter material (how hypnosis can be used in a furry context) expanded, copyedited, and wikified. I vote against the merge on the grounds that the group and the concept are not the same thing. --CodyDenton 09:22, 15 July 2010 (UTC)
I do not believe that this should be merged or deleted. Hypnosis as both a character and sexual interest is important in the fandom and, I would say, as big of a deal as vore or close to it. Sarovak would be an example of an artist that pulls very heavily on hypnosis as a fetish and main character design. Truthfully, i've seen that hypnosis, for the most part, seems to be attributed to scalies generally and snakes specifically, likely for relation to charmer snakes. Either way, hypnosis most definitely plays a part in the fandom and the article should be written to reflect that. The article, as it is now, can certainly be improved, but it's current lack of cohesion shouldn't mean that it should be deleted, it should mean that we work on improving it. To clarify things a little on this topic it seems to me that the relationship between furries, hypnosis, and snakes would likely be a byproduct of Disney's rendition of The Jungle Book. Not only do you have the presence of "feral" (excuse me if this is the incorrect term, but it's a term I've seen used to describe these types of furries before and is what I've grown accustomed to) furries and a hypnotic snake, but you also have imagery of Kaa's hypnosis being put out in a manner that the subconscious could mistake as sexual.
More to the point, this is another angle that this article could potentially explore if it were not deleted or merged. As stated by Silver and Cody, this article has a lot of relevance to the furry fandom that couldn't properly be explored if it were to simply be merged with an article on hypnofurs. Another possible angle to mention is the relationship between hypnosis and bondage, for what is mind control if not mental bondage? As a hypnosis/mind control fan within the furry fandom, I would gladly help to improve this article, but only if the merge were to be completely cast aside. I'll be keeping an eye on how this evolves and look forward to seeing this resolved. Rahka 00:05, 27 July 2010 (UTC)
