Rocky Mountain Fur Con, often abbreviated RMFC, is an annual furry convention that takes place in Denver, Colorado and celebrates anthropomorphics. Events include charitable benefits, educational seminars, art shows, panels and general social activities. The convention also features a unique cooking show called "Free Can Cook" hosted by FreeFox. The convention is currently chaired by Sorin Kat.

[edit] Origins

Rocky Mountain Fur Con was first organized by the Mid-America Anthropomorphics and Arts Corporation to take place in June of 2006. However, when Anthrocon also announced its date for that same month, the decision was made to postpone the Rocky Mountain Fur Con's debut until 2007. The first Rocky Mountain Fur Con was chaired by Kahuki Lairu with assistant chair Sorin Kat.

[edit] Rocky Mountain Fur Con 2007

Rocky Mountain Fur Con 2007 took place from June 1 to 3 at the Denver Adam's Mark Hotel. Goldenwolf, Dark Natasha, and Michele Light were the guests of honor. The final official attendance was 236.[1]

[edit] Rocky Mountain Fur Con 2008

Rocky Mountain Fur Con 2008 took place the weekend of May 23-25 at The Hyatt Regency in Denver. The theme for 2008 was "The Urban Wilderness".[1] Blotch and LatinVixen were the Guests of Honor. The official final attendance was 319 according to [1] as of 13 July 2008. Despite 35% growth, the event failed to meet its hotel room block, and faced a $30,000 debt. Sorin Kat later stated that all of the con's debts save one had been paid off and last had been greatly reduced due to donations by local furs.

[edit] Rocky Mountain Fur Con 2009

Rocky Mountain Fur Con 2009 took place on August 7-9 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Denver, Colorado. The theme for 2009 was "A Wild Night on the Town". The Guests of Honor were artist Keihound and fursuiter ScribbleFox. The official final attendance was 400 including 54 fursuiters, a 25% increase from the previous year. Despite a positive experience at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, it was decided to move the convention to another location.

[edit] Rocky Mountain Fur Con 2010

Rocky Mountain Fur Con 2010 was held on August 6th - 8th at the Doubletree Hotel Denver. The theme was The Wild West. Guests of Honor were artist Heather Bruton, fursuiter Lucky Coyote of Dont Hug Cacti Studios and Feature Performer, 2 the Ranting Gryphon. There was a total of 526 attendees, a 31% increase over the previous year and had 71 fursuiters in their parade. It was considered one of their most sucessful events to date.

[edit] Rocky Mountain Fur Con 2011

Rocky Mountain Fur Con 2011 was held on August 12th to 14th at the Doubletree Hotel Denver. The theme was "I need a hero!", focusing on superheroes. The Guests of Honor were furry writer Kyell Gold and furry artist Rukis. The final attendance was 643, a 22% increase over the previous year and included 101 fursuiters in the parade and 37 dealers. They raised over $1200 for their Charity, Freedom Service Dogs. It is considered their most successful year to date.

[edit] Rocky Mountain Fur Con 2012

Rocky Mountain Fur Con 2012's theme has been announced as "Furry Apocalypse!" It will be held at the Doubletree Hotel Denver August 10-12, 2012. Guests of Honor have been announced as David Hopkins, prolific artist and creator of the web comic Jack. And fursuiter Syber of Made Fur You.

Rocky Mountain Fur Con 2013's theme has been announced as "Lucky 13" focusing around the theme of Casinos. The location, dates and Guests of Honor will be announced at closing ceremonies of their 2012 event.

Rocky Mountain Fur Con is organized by the Mid-American Anthropomorphic and Arts Corporation, a S corporation with 501(c)(3) status as of April 2009. The CEO is Kahuki Lairu, while the treasurer is Sorin Kat.
