Redwall (series)
The Redwall series is a series of books written by Brian Jacques published from 1986 to 2011 that features anthropomorphic characters.
The characters of Redwall are all animals of various anthropomorphic quality, and the stories are centered around Redwall Abbey in a medieval-type setting. The books are geared towards the adolescent audience and contain action, adventure and tales of bravery.
A central figure in the ongoing Redwall tales is Martin the Warrior, a mouse who freed enslaved animals and helped in the founding of the abbey. He appears in almost all the books as a spirit or guide.
The animals commonly featured in Redwall include mice, badgers, otters, squirrels, hares ("good beasts") and rats, foxes, weasels, wildcats and wolves ("vermin," or the bad beasts.)
The series has been made into an animated series (website) produced by Nelvana, and has been used as the basis of Redwall MUCK. In addition, there is a Redwall section on Sociopolitical Ramifications MUCK that contains many beautiful descriptions of settings from the stories. While the Socio Redwall area has largely been abandoned by role-players, visitors may still find exploration a heartwarming experience.
