Peter is the Wolf is a webcomic created by BAR-1 and Kris Overstreet, hosted by White Lightning Productions, which is centered around a cast of werewolf characters.
Although the comic contains explicit sexual material, there are separate pages available for general audiences and for adults only. The comic has made use of this split format to provide different pages in the same weekly update, giving readers the opportunity to follow events taking place at the same time in parallel sequences.
Peter is the Wolf is reprinted in White Lightning Productions' anthology comic book Bootleg, beginning with issue #13.

Premise[edit]
The comic centers on the life of Peter Stubbe, a runty werewolf who happens to be the only male of his age group in the pack. He has to deal with the threat of mysterious capture squads, the needling of his best friend Jean Goodwin, the domineering possessiveness of Rebecca "Butch" Cramer, and most of all his human girlfriend, Sarah Hazen.
Sarah is literally Peter's biggest problem, since he unwittingly infected her with lycanthropy as a result of unprotected sex. Unlike Peter, who is a born werewolf in control of his transformations, Sarah is driven by uncontrollable instincts... and also unlike Peter, she's much larger and stronger than normal for a werewolf. This mismatch of small male and huge female leads to comedy, drama, and not a little sex.
Story[edit]
Chapter 1: Thralled, I'm Sure[edit]
Ran from January 1, 2005 to June 11, 2005
The chapter opens with narration by Peter about his current situation, where he's being chased by a van from a mysterious "Capture Squad". Peter, as he attempts to escape on a skateboard, explains about how he's small, weak and slow as far as werewolves go. Peter loses them in traffic, so he goes to Ray Park to see his friend, Jean Goodwin. While there, Rebecca "Butch" Cramer threatens to claim Peter as her mate at the Howl, a monthly meeting of the town's werewolves on the night of the full moon. Peter, however, isn't going to the Howl because he has a date with his human girlfriend, Sarah Hazen. Peter describes their first sexual intercourse to Jean, who becomes infuriated.
Jean explains to Peter that lycanthropy can be transmitted through sex. Peter didn't know this, so he and Jean rush to Sarah's house before moonrise to check on her. As a precaution, Jean and Peter take Sarah into the woods to restrain her. As the moon rises, Sarah becomes infuriated and throws them into the air, then begins to transform for the first time.
As she's transforming, Jean explains to Peter that since he infected her, Sarah is now his thrall (a term derived from legend for a "created" werewolf). He is responsible for her actions until Sarah learns to control herself. If the thrall can't be kept under the control, the thrall and its maker are put to death.
The chapter ends with Sarah's first howling at the moon, her transformation complete. She's become a gigantic, muscular werewolf, over twice her original size. She's the biggest werewolf Jean and Peter have ever seen.
Chapter 2: New Pup on the Block[edit]
Ran from June 25, 2005 to January 21, 2006
The chapter opens with more narration by Peter, explaining the Howl and introducing many of the secondary characters. Sheriff Constantine "Con" Nero, former alpha wolf; Gus Cramer, Butch's father and the deputy sheriff, extremely aggressive; Walter and Sally Stubbe, Peter's parents, and Jack and Carla Goodwin, Jean's parents. Jack is the new Alpha and is the editor of the local newspaper, so he's able to manipulate the local news to keep the werewolves secret.
All the werewolves at the Howl hear Sarah's howling. They know it's a new werewolf, but as they argue what to do about it, Butch runs away to find it.
At this point, the comic separates into two different storylines, an adult version not approprite for minors, and a general version.
Adult Version[edit]
- Peter explains how a person's first werewolf transformation causes them to lose all reason and makes them feral and unable to control their instincts. Sarah begins to act like a puppy, chasing her tail and rolling around in the dirt. She soon becomes infatuated with Peter and attempts to have sex with him. Before the two can fully consummate the act, Butch appears and tries to fight Sarah. Once roused Sarah effortlessly defeats Butch, the fight ending with Sarah holding Butch's neck in her jaws. Fighting tooth and claw in wolf form is expressly forbidden, because the usual werewolf powers of regeneration don't affect bite or claw wounds inflicted by other werewolves.
- Before the fight gets too serious, Con Nero arrives. Sarah, seeing him as a threat, lunges at him, but Con shoots her in the heart. This only serves to knock her unconscious; the bullet wound heals almost instantly, unusually fast even for a werewolf. Con turns to Peter and tells him that they're going to have a long talk.
General Version[edit]
- Gus Cramer and Walter Stubbe argue about the source of the howl. Walter insists it's from across town, but Gus thinks he's trying to cover for Peter, who's somehow responsible. Butch runs away from the howl to find the source of the howl herself.
- Con Nero and Jack Goodwin change back to human form so that Con can go find the new werewolf and Jack can cover up the news. Jack insists that everyone stay until they find out more, but Gus Cramer insists on making sure Butch is safe. Gus confronts first Walter and then Jack, apparently seeking an excuse for conflict. Jack says that it's only because of Rebecca that Gus isn't dead now for his wild temper. Gus is sickened that Jack is afraid of the humans, but the other werewolves silently dissuade him from challenging Jack for leadership, at least for now.
- Butch catches up with Peter, and sees a giant werewolf lying on top of him. Without pausing she attacks the strange werewolf, learning only too late that the giant is in fact Sarah Hazen. Once roused Sarah effortlessly defeats Butch, the fight ending with Sarah holding Butch's neck in her jaws. Fighting tooth and claw in wolf form is expressly forbidden, because the usual werewolf powers of regeneration don't affect bite or claw wounds inflicted by other werewolves.

Chapter 3: Lycanthrope I[edit]
Started February 4, 2006
Sarah wakes up in Peter's bedroom and goes downstairs to see a large group of people waiting for her; the town's werewolves. Con Nero tries to explain what happened, but Sarah recognizes him from last night as the man that shot her in the heart. She becomes so terrified that she transforms again. Gus throws Peter at her so that he can calm her down while the others wait.
Adult Version[edit]
- Sarah gives Peter an affectionate hug and tries to have sex with him. Peter has some aconitum vulparia (or yellow wolfsbane) in a drawer a few feet away that can calm Sarah down, but when Sarah blocks him from reaching it and presents herself, he decides to go along with her wishes.
General Version[edit]
- The werewolves now have the problem of what to do with this new thrall. Peter's father Walter insists that it be Peter's responsibility as a consequence of what he's done, but Carla, Jean's mother, says that it's partially Walt's fault for not teaching Peter anything about sex.
- The discussion turns to what to do about Sarah. Con thinks that she's too powerful to take down. Gus, the deputy sheriff, thinks that they should try and control her rather than kill her, because a lot of other werewolves might get killed in the process.
- During this discussion, sounds of Peter and Sarah going at it can be heard in the next room. Jean teases Butch because since Sarah, a werewolf of ridiculous size and strength, is obsessed with Peter, it will be a lot harder for Butch to mate with Peter, and Jean describes why this is such a shame. Butch doesn't take this turn of events very well, but she's not giving up on Peter yet.
