Mobius is the setting used in most American versions of the Sonic the Hedgehog animé and comic books. Among the furry fandom, Mobius is popular as a generic post-apocalyptic furry setting. The continuity of Mobius began in the version of the Sonic the Hedgehog animé known in the Sonic fandom as SatAM, and was continued and expanded (and heavily retconned) by the comic made by Archie. Due to the flexibility of the setting, it is fairly popular among furries, and has developed a fandom of its own.
In the Sonic: the Hedgehog comic produced by Archie, the setting of Mobius takes place in approximately the year 14,000, twelve millenia after humanity was wiped out. Mobians were genetically modified creations of humanity who were able to survive the plague that wiped out 99% of the human race, thanks to their genetic variance.
Many generations later, a Human-Mobian war was started after an accident in which it appeared that a human child shot and killed a Mobian prince. Tensions already high, and in the backdrop of that war, Dr. Ivo Kintobor was able to grab for more and more power.
 In the furry fandom
For furries, Mobius is a generic setting, usable for any style of stories; the juxtaposition of large untamed wildernesses and modern societies, magic and technology, enlightenment and the unknown, make for a setting that can encompass a wide variety of stories and genres within it.
Fanwritten stories set in Mobius infrequently center around the Robotnik-Freedom Fighters storyline, and are either set in the peaceful times before or in the forseen reconstruction after.
