Mitch Marmel, full M. Mitchell Marmel or just Mitchel Marmel, also known as MarmelMM and Major Matt Mason, is a greymuzzle furry author.

Fandom involvement[edit]

Marmel has been active in the fandom in one form or another since the 1980s, being heavily involved in alt.fan.furry newsgroup during that time period. Mitch was one of the founders of The Electric Holt, a Philadelphia, USA based BBS catering to the ElfQuest, furry and anime fandoms from 1987 to 1991, and of the found ding members of the Burned Furs movement.

He was also part of the security staff at Anthrocon,[1] later active in the video room staff, as well as staffing at several other conventions.[citation needed]

His most notable creation to date is Tali Hartoh-Mason, a felinoid/ailurine catlike character of TaliVisions fame.

Character[edit]

Marmel's nom du fur, Major Matt Mason (a human), is based on the Mattel toy of the same name, although the character has gone off in different directions.[clarify]

Bibliography[edit]

Marmel is a long-standing contributor to the Spontoon Island storylines. The Spontoon Island novel The Catto Comeback, co-created with fellow author E.O. Costello, was nominated in the 2006 Ursa Major Awards for Best Anthropomorphic Novel.

Three Spontoon Island stories (two also co-created with E.O. Costello) were nominated for the 2005 Ursa Major Awards for Best Anthropomorphic Short Fiction: Anyone for Venison? by Marmel & Costello, Contrition: It's Not Just For Breakfast Anymore by Marmel and Let's Not Duello on the Subject by Marmel and Costello.
