Instructions

Edit the Sitenotice to set a site-wide notice for logged-in users (anonymous users get MediaWiki:Anonnotice instead). You must increment the number at Sitenotice id at the same time for it to show up for users who dismissed the last one.

A question...[edit]

Is it somehow possible to get a page in one language setting to relay the content of another page - in this case an English one - just as it would appear using the English language setting? The reason why I'm wondering is that it would be nice to have the site notice show up in other language settings as well, automatically updated to its English counterpart. It would get kinda awkward if we'd have to copy the text over manually from one page to the other each time there was a change, no? ;)

If no relaying of information is possible, I suppose that maybe another template could be a worthy solution. Thoughts? --MKerris 00:35, 24 Nov 2005 (UTC)

I would suggest that something like a Template:Sitenotice would indeed be the appropriate way to do that. Of course, it was put into the mediawiki namespace because people did indeed want it to be translated each time - but I appreciate we probably have few people here who cannot at least understand english. :-) --GreenReaper(talk) 09:02, 25 Nov 2005 (UTC)
Well, you've certainly got a point there, Green... what if we just put a template on every language's 'sitenotice' page as a default of sorts, and let the users of each language setting decide by themselves whether to translate it or not? This way they would still be able to see the content of the template up there if nobody had cared to write a translation yet (as opposed to nothing at all). --MKerris 14:45, 25 Nov 2005 (UTC)
That sounds fine to me. As you say, it's better to have english information than none at all. --GreenReaper(talk) 16:49, 25 Nov 2005 (UTC)
Great - I'll start in a bit then. --MKerris 17:26, 25 Nov 2005 (UTC)
There, all done... but what do we do about the history and discussion pages here - perhaps move them over to the template, seeing as it is now the main 'site notice' page? It's probably just a trivial matter though, but still. :) --MKerris 21:22, 25 Nov 2005 (UTC)
I'll add a redirect to here from the template talk page. This is still the default place new people will come when they think to change the sitenotice. --GreenReaper(talk) 21:34, 25 Nov 2005 (UTC)

Commented instructions[edit]

Alas, if we put this comment in, it breaks it . . .

Please edit the template above to make your changes appear in all language settings. Changes made to this page will only affect the English setting.

I guess we'll just have to try to remember to use the template. :-) --GreenReaper(talk) 03:07, 2 Dec 2005 (UTC)

Ahh, I wasn't aware of that... well, it's very easily mended if someone should forget about it now and then, so I suppose it wouldn't be that much of a problem after all. ;) --MKerris 15:58, 3 Dec 2005 (UTC)

Changes in MediaWiki render template unnecessary[edit]

The template solution described above is no longer necessary, as all languages will use the English sitenotice if they do not have one of their own set. I have removed the templates. --GreenReaper(talk) 19:29, 15 April 2007 (UTC)

Furry Survey link error[edit]

A minor one, but I can't edit it, so... the link is actually "2011c Furry Survey", not "Furry Survey 2010". Could someone with more awesomeness than I correct this, please? Ta! --GingerM (Leave me a message) 02:36, 10 February 2011 (UTC)
