The marten is any of a group of semi-arboreal mustelids of the taxonomic genus Martes. They are found primarily in the northern hemisphere and are larger than the related weasels. The spelling of this name is important, so as not to be confused with martin, a European swallow, or St. Martin de Tours, the patron saint of France.
Marten characters[edit]
Generally speaking, martens are thought of in terms of their relation to weasels, which makes them likely to be cast as villains if at all, as in the Redwall series.
