A theriotype is the animal or animals that a therian believes they are inside or identifies as. The most common theriotype is a wolf[1], accounting for approximately half of the online therian community[citation needed] (mammals in general are most frequently seen).[citation needed] The word was developed as a replacement for the word "phenotype", which held the same meaning but was felt to be a misnomer, as 'pheno' refers to the observable attributes of an organism. Some therians believe they have more than one theriotype, and are called "Poly-Weres" or Polymorphs. Mythical animals are usually considered to be otherkin-types (refered to as a kintype or kin-type), but this has been disputed, especially in the case of dragons and gryphons, who are mythical beasts.[citation needed]
