IcelandFurs was founded on a free hosting site in November, 2009.

On May 5, 2013, Redward (the previous owner of IcelandFurs) gave the group to Abby-Fennec. From this point, IcelandFurs is run by Abby-Fennec, Solvithor and ColliesEverywhere.
