'Hengeyokai: Shapeshifters of the East' (ISBN 1-56504-338-3) is a World of Darkness roleplaying supplement. It was published as part of White Wolf's Year Of The Lotus cycle, where asian-themed variations were created based on the 'western' settings of the original World of Darkness. As the eastern parallel to Werewolf, Hengeyokai details the Beast Courts of the East. The Courts gather together many different types of shapeshifters in service to the Emerald Mother, their name for the Earth.
Chief among them are the Kitsune fox shapeshifters. Half of the Hengeyokai book is devoted to detailing Kitsune culture and powers. The other main shapeshifters in the Beast Courts are the Khan (were-tigers), Nezumi (were-rats), Hakken (a tribe of werewolf, originally of the White Fangs, Stargazers and Shadowlords tribes, but shown as one collective here), Nagah (were-serpents), Same-Bito (were-sharks), Tengu (were-ravens), Zhung Long (were-dragons), and Kumo (were-spiders).
Hengeyokai allows players to put the various shapeshifters into multi-racial packs called sentai that operate within the east, battling creatures that seek to harm the emerald Mother. In an extreme deviation from its western counterpart, the Hengeyokai are not always set against vampires; indeed, there are cases in which vampires have joined Sentai, their goals joined with the Hengeyokai.
Some of these creatures are also to be found in the Vampire: Bloodlines computer game based on White Wolf's World of Darkness roleplaying game.
