Alan Loewen, also known as Heavy Horse and the Literary Equine (real name Craig Loewen; born November 1, 1954, in Easthampton, New York, USA),[1] is a writer whose works are anthropomorphic-themed who lives in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, USA.[2]

Fandom involvement[edit]

Alan Loewen discovered the furry fandom through artist Jordan "Greywolf" Peacock's unicorn artwork. His fan name, Heavy Horse, comes from his interest in equines both magical and mundane as well as a tribute to the song made famous by the rock group Jethro Tull.)

Alan Loewen is a Christian fur and moderated/hosted The Unicorn and Gryphon on Yahoo groups before other social media venues became more popular. He also regularly attends Anthrocon due to its locality to the mid-Atlantic states as well as being a regular speaker/attendee at science fiction convention Capclave.

Alan Loewen was a Guest of Honour at Morphicon 2012 and Doxacon 2013.

Bibliography[edit]

Five of his stories were published in PawPrints Fanzine during that fanzine's lifetime. Outside of the furry community, his fiction ranges from science fiction and fantasy to Lovecraftian Horror. He is collaborating with Ken Pick on a trilogy entitled The Adventures of Jill Noir, a semi-furry space-opera.

Alan has had a number of short story collections self-published on Amazon.com,[1] one being the fully furry[clarify] collection, Opal Wine. He also has released The Seven Sisters, a semi-furry novella for older children. He and his co-writer, Ken Pick, have the lead story in Fred Patten's 2014 anthology, Anthropomorphic Aliens.
