Here Lie Monsters is a furry MUCK for UNIX geeks and gays.
Rumored to also be named HLM MUCK. Just as GNU stands for "GNU's Not UNIX" (a recursive acronym), Sprinkles and Bottom say that HLM stands for "HLM Loves Men", but it is more likely to mean Here Lie Monsters.
- Addresses:
- Ran from/to: May 26, 2002 - present
Sprinkles and Bottom founded HLM in the summer of 2002 when they were banned from Tapestries for diaper play. Despite the two having been pivotal in the creation of the BabyFur lifestyle, the lifestyle is rarely practiced on HLM. From 2003 to 2004, a third wizard Chuckles was present, whose career was marked with unpopular decisions, exile and finally ending in Amway and alcoholism.
During a colocation move, HLM MUCK became the first MUCK to be hosted on a Microsoft Xbox, through a custom Debian Linux port. There was a brief downtime when Sprinkles decided to play Halo. A timestamped log at the bottom provides historical evidence of such "staggering genius".
Since these early days, HLM has moved to a colocated machine. Many of the MUCK users also hold accounts on the MUCK server, each contributing to the cost of the machine's upkeep, and many running interesting projects of their own. Two such projects are Fisk's Better Days comic site, and an AJAX-based Second Life mapping service. But more practically, it's mostly a place for people to host mp3s of their favorite Falco songs and bootlegs.
