Growly's fursonas, a black bear (her current one,) and a red wolf (her former one)

Growly, also known as Grrrowly and thegreenmooseofdoom, (born July 19th 1987) is a female fursuiter and furry artist.

Growly first discovered the fandom at age 11, while searching for werewolf artwork. She stumbled upon Yerf, then the SCFA. Growly didn't discover the 'darker' side of the fandom until several years later.

[edit] Art

Growly has been drawing since she was old enough to hold a pencil, but during elementary and middle school, she considered it more of a casual hobby than something to pursue as a career.

She, for the longest time, dreamed of being some sort of scientist, either a paleontologist, or a wolf scientist. She discovered in high school science really wasn't for her, so she instead focused more on developing her artistic skills.

Growly spent a number of years honing her art skills on Neopets doing requests for the kids there. She met one of her best fur friends through her fame on Neopets, and also published a Neopets comic called Sutek Muffin on the website for a few years.

Now her artistic sights are set a little bit higher, and she is currently in college to try and perfect her craft and secure a job.

[edit] Fursuiting

Growly's bear suit

She first got into fursuiting in October 2002, when she wanted to make a costume of her character, Denali Wolf. She didn't know how to sew yet, so most of the costume was glued together.

Growly wasn't completely satisfied with her first attempt, so she remade her suit from scratch using tutorials she found online.

The suit was a success and it inspired her to make more, and as of March 2007, she's made 13 partial suits, 8 full suits, and 9 heads, as well as a myriad of smaller projects such as tails and ears. She used to take custom commissions through her website, Growly the Bear; however, as of May 2009, this website is defunct.

Growly's aspirations include graduating from the Savannah College of Art and Design, finding some sort of artsy job, and getting married to her fiancée, Andy.

Growly normally only goes to a few cons each year, namely Dragon*Con and Furry Weekend Atlanta, however she did attend her first Anthrocon in 2007.

[edit] Growly the character

Growly the black bear character sheet from 2007

When Growly first created her fursona in 1998, she was a red wolf girl named Denali. Over the years, she became to be known as Growly (around 2000-2001). In the summer of 2005, she changed her fursona to a black bear. As of 2009, however, she has reverted back to red wolf, with a design similar to her original character Denali.

[edit] Appearance

Growly is a 5 foot tall curvy female red wolf. She loves bright colors and shiny things, her favorite colors are purple and lime green. Her least favorite color is red, she pretty much NEVER wears red or yellow. Her hair can be any combination of pink, brown, blue, purple, and green. Hair is usually show as having long colored bangs in front, with a short and spiky back. She is playful and energetic and perhaps a little naive.

Her tastes in clothing are simple and conservative. Plain colors over crazy patterns and slogans, and nothing that shows too much skin. Mainly things like skirts, pants, t-shirts, and tank-tops.

Growly exists in an unnamed world very similar to Earth that her creator has been thinking up over several years. Other characters of Growly's include: Amy Possum, Trixi Rabat, Garish Puma, Inverse Husky, Raquel Lynx, Null, the Sugar Dragons, Elsie Bat, Tiffany Panda, Dhara Crow, Koko Lemur, Makita Gryphon, Kaellyn Dragon, the Green Martian Moose and more.

[edit] Garish Puma

Garish Puma

Garish Puma is a character created by Growly in mid 2004. Like many other strange ideas she's hatched, the idea for Garish came to her for no apparent reason, before going to bed. Garish is the true embodiment of chaos and anarchy, so Growly colored him to have absolutely no color harmony at all--total discord. He started off as a quadruped that didn't really 'exist' in any one environment, but his creator soon felt he should become a bit more "standardized" and be an anthro like the rest of her characters.

Later that year, he became anthro but kept his digitigrade legs and 'bald' head. He also gained two yellow 'eyedots' and a stripe down his back. The idea to make him into a fursuit was toyed around with, but nothing became of the idea--Growly thought Garish would be a bit too eye-searing to subject people to in real life.

The original Garish design

Later, Garish's design was changed yet again, in 2007. Growly realized Garish was garish enough just with hot pink fur, and to have so many colors in his fur was not aesthetically-pleasing. So he was recolored to still be hot pink, but with butter yellow underbelly fur and violet-colored 'socks' on his hands and feet. This new tri-color design is still highly unusual, but is a lot more balanced than the previous mishmash of bright colors.

[edit] Description

Garish Puma is a 25-year-old puma from Germany. He came to an American town as a stop on a vacation, but he wound up blowing all his money on gambling and booze, so he became stranded. He's living illegally in a condemned building downtown and makes his money from underground boxing and gambling.

He's burly and loves to fight, not only for money, but for the sheer love of beating his enemies into a bloody pulp. He has quite a few unusual traits... Not only is his fur a startling shade of neon pink, he is also digitigrade, which is a rare genetic trait in furries, and has no headfur, another uncommon trait. Perhaps his slightly more animalistic body is proof of the cold savage mind inside. He is largely without scruples and thinks nothing of breaking the law to survive. At best, he would be considered a Chaotic Neutral by D&D standards.

He has multicolored eyes (one blue and one violet), most likely due to drug use, and no one is really sure whether or not his pink fur was brought about synthetically, or if it's a genetic defect. All they know is, if you question his masculinity, you will certainly be corrected, and quickly. He is straight, almost to the point of being homophobic, and women are a vice he indulges in often.

He often dresses very lightly, especially if he's going into a fight. He often binds his wrists in tape, and favors comfortable garments over fashionable ones. He usually wears a wifebeater and a pair of shorts, except obviously in winter, when he wears long overcoats and sometimes boots. He does not often wear shoes, however. Not only do they feel 'restrictive' to him, but it is very hard to find shoes for digitigrade furs and they often have to be custom-made, a luxury Garish cannot afford.
