[edit] Event organizer and MiFur involvement
In 2004 Gir started organizing furmeets in the Ann Arbor, Michigan area. Originally the meets consisted of anywhere from 12-15 people but over the years have ballooned to an average of around 40 in attendance per event. The success of these meets prompted Gir to hold other more specialized events including zoo trips, mini golf meets, and smaller parties. In 2006 Gir joined the planning committee for ConClave, assisting in the organization of the furry track. He has since limited discontinued involvement with the convention to focus more on other projects. At present he routinely organizes at least one large furmeet in Michigan per quarter and slightly less frequently will host a smaller specialized RSVP only gathering.
As the Michigan furry community grew Gir decided that there needed to be an online resource dedicated to furries in Michigan. In 2006 he started MichiganFurs.com to serve as a resource for area furries to promote events, provide biographical information on local furries and to host content relevant to furries in Michigan created by furries in Michigan. As the website grew Gir rebranded the page "MiFur - Midwest Furries" as the membership of the page was beginning to grow past the Michigan area. The webpage frequently receives updates and is to be considered constantly under construction.
[edit] Furry Connection North
In July of 2007 Gir conceived the notion that with as rapidly as the Michigan furry community was growing that the state needed it’s own furry convention. With the help of his good friends 2 and Nik Vulper they began the planning for Furry Connection North. Gir has taken up the reigns as chairman and hotel liaison and has pressed the idea forward. The convention became a reality April 11th of 2008 and was generally well received. Gir agreed to continue as chairman of the event and headed a second year of the convention and has agreed to continue on as chairman for at least an additional 2 years.
[edit] Costuming
Gir has been an amateur costumer and fursuiter since 2003. Gir mainly focuses on making high quality, seamless tails typically with airbrushed markings or embellishments. Many of his feline tails feature weighted armatures or skeletal structures to give more realistic movement and improved feel for the wearer. He has constructed over 50 tails but seldom takes commissions more often making them as gifts for friends. Gir currently owns 2 fursuits, a self made tiger partial and a collaborative effort snow leopard.
