Gift art

Gift art is artwork (or, more generally, a creative work) done for someone else as a free commission, sometimes as a surprise as a birthday or holiday celebration, or in gratitude for something. Some artists apply different (usually lower) quality standards to gift art than to commissions, while others may delay its creation (on the grounds that paying customers should come first) or choose a simpler topic or medium for the art. It is usually considered rude to request gift art unless invited to do so, although asking for an art trade may be appropriate.
