MetalHead (Gary Elvasin) was killed, along with Rrroofus, at the corner of Washington Ave. and Anza St. in El Cajon, California on the evening of January 6, 1996. The two were shot in what was suspected to be a case of mistaken identity. The Pet Auction at ConFurence 7 raised over $1,000 for their families.

A statue in his honor can be found on FurryMUCK's Gardens of Remembrance. The description of his statue reads:
The statue of Metalhead rises gracefully from a solid granite base.
Looking at MetalHead, you see a smallish leotaur--someone with the body of
a lion and a humanoid torso and head in place of the lion's neck and head.
He is about 8' from front to rump, perhaps 5 1/2' or a little more from
his forepaws to the top of his head. His torso is very similar to
Vincent's, from "Beauty and the Beast", though he is not as built or well-
muscled and his face is noticeably different--more like a member of
Vincent's species as opposed to a twin or relation. His long blonde hair
flows mane-like down his back, somewhat obscuring the three long scars he
bears there. His lower half is well-muscled and moves with the fluid
grace of all felines, his tail swishing happily behind him as he pads
around on unshod paws. A lowered tail provides suitable modesty from the
rear.
